    Great general comparison of timers. Thanks

    Thanks for this little comparison, Myles. I don't think I have come across anyone comparing these yet. Good info. I have used the free/cheap phone apps a little, the Mantis system a little, and just started using the PACT timer. I am really just getting to the point of actually using timers in training though.

    I think you missed the boat on this one by not including the AMG-LAB Commander in your product review. Not only is it a excellent timer but integrates with PractiScore via Bluetooth link. Excellent sensitivity settings that work with dry fire practice with or without the Dry Fire Mag. Price: $150.00.

      I placed an order for an AGM timer back in Sept ‘23. Other than the order confirmation, haven’t received any replies to my order inquiries. $165 down the drain! I’ve written it off as a scam and ended-up buying a Kestrel.

      People should stop mentioning the AMG until the creator can reliably deliver them to customers. There is no excuse in 2024 for the delays. Citing 2-3 year old shortages is misleading.

    I use Splits on android and found if you put a sweater, shirt or really anything to muffle sound over the microphone or adjust the microphone sensitivity theyre more accurate. The app uses the "speakerphone" settings on the microphone so its very sensitivity to any sounds. Great video though! I'd like to see a drawing from various scenarios ie drawing while running drawing while on ground and so on, preferably from concealed carry.

    I want a timer that I can use in matches to overlay with Video. How do you do this when your being run by the SO and he is using there equipment. I want to record my times/plots along with Video. Which one does that?

    Recommendation for indoor range? I am thinking of the mantis system.

    • @Shadow__133
      @Shadow__133 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I have had the Mantis X10 and Laser Academy system for over a year now. They have some issues: software sucks on iphones, picky with lighting and distance, some guns won't work well detecting shots (PDP mostly), only the 3x more expensive laser integrated dry fire mag is compatible (otherwise you run with rubber casings, a TRT or remove mag internals).
      That being said it is a very cool system once you get it running and the course drills are awesome, and at the range the X10 helps stamp metrics to your performance (and serve as a limited shoot timer). I do recommend, but keep in mind it will get expensive, especially if you incorporate blackbeard (AR) or SIRT pistols.

    I use the range tech time which is an app as well ad a physical timer it has been invaluable to my training has allot of the features of a tier 1 timer and I can't say enough about it

  • @richardbristol452

    You missed an important element in this review: the beep. I have poor hearing for a bunch of reasons and, even with electronic with ear pro, I simply cannot hear the beep from any mobile app I’ve used, and I’ve used several. With my nose canceling headset, I can make out the Pocket Pro beep on a range most of the time, as long as no one is talking and background noise is at a minimum, but I’ve mised a good many start signals during competition with this device. The specific reason I chose the PACT timer is that it has, by far, the loudest audio signal of any timer on the market. You can even hear the difference in this video when each timer is set prior to the accuracy test. It stands out on any range, regardless of the conditions and regardless of the ear protection used. That’s everything to me. It’s also easy to set and use and is very reliable. Also, a timer is nearly useless if it cannot be read from the top. Front screens get old after a half a dozen shots. In any self training session, you just want a screen that you can look quickly down at and move on to the next string. It may sound like a small point, but it is not.

    • @SaintJoy18
      @SaintJoy18 Před 4 měsíci

      SG has a different model that has a top facing screen. It runs about half the cost of the one reviewed. Haven't used it, so can't recommend, but it's out there.

    • @Shadow__133
      @Shadow__133 Před 3 měsíci +1

      But the app ones can and play directly into your bluetooth enabled ear protection.
      I use the mantis and play music at the same time without issues.

    I used to work for a state agency . We used to qualify 3 times a year. 2x AZPOST and 1x US Army CPQC. Some of the guys used to get so stressed out knowing they were being timed. But honestly there was way more than enough time for each stage.

    I use the Pact 3 as my timer -And I have SG Timer Go -I use the GO to follow up training/Match and Film them. But I refuse to use the GO during practice - It is to much info in the sceen on the go and the button is flimsy smal. I will use the Go in Spy mode when filming. That give me videos the split stimes etc. The Pact 3 is the timer to have on the range and using as a timer duirng the session. It is much more ergonomic and nicer to use than the GO. The screen are giving you enough information for follow up you shoot during an training. Allot of timers gives to much info for me. The pact 3 is build as a tank and just goes. I also like it because it use batteri. I just have an extra in the beg insted of ended up need to load. I have use like 3-5 times a week for 2 years without change battery. Please do a Pact with the spy and video mode

    Any shot timer is good. But "smooth is fast". It is better to draw your firearm with fluid motion than to fumble and not be accurate.

      Your statement has me confused, are timers just useless?
      Or, is everyone supposed to only time their draws and not their splits from high or low ready, one shot, multiple shots, one target or multiple targets?
      Please help..
