  • I discuss applying GD&T to a simple assembly.
    This is my first livestream. I'm a little disappointed with the audio, but I think it's good enough. I will improve on the next stream.
    This will be different than my previous videos, as it is recorded live. It's a little more conversational, and I do interact with the live audience.

    These GD&T application videos where you talk through your reasoning are GOLD. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these!

    Turn the gain down on the microphoine, its too "hot" meaning the audio is clipping.

    Hey i have a small doubt about datum select, does datum(in your example) work with the 3-2-1 rule?

    Hello. This video is brilliant idea, since transition from theory to practical thingy and decision making process, and, most important, why those decisions are made is often left unexplained. I would like to ask for more of such videos and one more little thingy, could you please very breefly explain about datums taking away DOF espesially which DOF are taken away and show them. Because it is one of those fundamental things on how to choose datums. You've mentioned that datum A taken away DOF but which one of them?
    Other than that I think this video is very helpfull.

    I apologize if this isn't the right thread to ask this but where can I find general rules for what can and cannot be used for a common datum such as A-D?
    The CMM software I am using won't allow me to a plane and a cylinder for a common datum because the cylinder isn't perpendicular to the plane. The standard has very limited information on it. I would like to explain to both the design engineer and the part supplier why I can't use the datum structure as drawn other than "the software won't allow it".

      Hi, I made two videos about common datums recently. Have you seen those?

      @@RDeanOdell Second video didn't really help. The standard is horribly vague at times, and this is one of those instances where it is. I do agree with you on the examples you used, most of the time it really isn't needed. The non-coplanar example in the standard is an example where it makes sense.

    Great Explanation! I work for automotive industry. We design plastic parts, and some times is difficult to apply GD T on complex plastic parts. Could you make a video on how to define this type of parts with Datums targets etc?

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  Před 6 měsíci +1

    Hi Dean ! Can you please cover a topic called Gauge R&R or GRR.. various situations, such as what happens when Repeatability is good but reproducibility is out and vice versa.. what needs to be changed process or design tolerances to bring R&R within acceptable limits. Why GRR? Is it part of Measurement system analysis (MSA) or Statistical process control (SPC)

  • @shivambahalaskar
    @shivambahalaskar Před 6 měsíci

    I think the slot should be the primary datum which is functional and the width should be control through profile tolerance or not position tolearnace because there is no datums to locate it.
    Hope the complete solution will come soon on this
    Looking for more sessions like this 🎉
