- We took Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein - the stars of IFC's "Portlandia" - to one of the world's greatest drum shops and had them face off and wax poetic about rhythm. Fred gave some lessons on the history of the drum, and they're totally 100% definitely absolutely not made-up, probably.

I like how this is basically a naturally occurring episode of Portlandia. Their stoic humor bounces so easily between them. they're more talented than they know. fkin LOVE fred and carrie to death
great comedic chemistry there. Very smooth improvisation that blurs the line between comedy and reality
Cameron Menzies it actually blurs the line between funny and not funny.
yes king slayyyyy
@@guitarofdestiny LOL, exactly
Actually believed the Cuba story for a while there...
Fred's impression of a jazz drummer was on point.
@Larry Niles Guess you had NO sense of humor 8 months ago, hope it's changed
@Larry Niles Woah, woah! This is getting pretty heated 11 months ago. I hope you guys are cooling down by now.
Every single sentence spoken in this video is sarcastic.
Is it?
They should get platonically married
+Symphonia16 That's redundant.
How so?
Symphonia16 Most marriages already are platonic.
You know some sad married people
Who wants to have sex with their spouse? That's just gross.
I love how they are naturally always in character lol
I always enjoy watching these two.
they're so underrated this is amazing
1:22 I don't think I've seen Fred actually laugh before 😂
"Dude, yeah, time-out"
I've met both of them. They are hilarious.
omg how did you meet them
he is a drummer btw folks. fred played drums in trench mouth. chicago band.
...as if it weren't obvious 1:29 !!! Trenchmouth be damned! Those were chops√
142314 and he played a gig with devo
I think it's just as funny that Carrie is an amazing guitarist but I never see her playing for comedic bits.
@Larry Niles You've never seen Fred play, have you?
@Larry Niles agreed. Hes barely a drummer.
Carrie Brownstein is perhaps the most influential drummer that I have ever laid eyes on?!
HAHAHAHAHAHA his impression of a jazz drummer was on point! That is literally how it sounds when a new drummer is learning the basics of jazz.
Music, drums, Fred & Carrie, these are the things that make me happy. 💜🔊🎶🎵
They are fucking hilarious.
Fred is an awesome drummer. Trenchmouth was such a kick-ass band.
does Fred play those drum beats you hear between sketches in Portlandia because that thing he played at the end reminded me of them.
I don't know which I love more. Both are soooo full of talent. Great Great Great Great!!!!
The best comedy duo.
They likely started out on bass, the gateway instrument... you can see the stains on their teeth
?
Carrie plays guitar in one of the most legit bands in rock music
🤣🤣🤣
@1:30 Reminds me of Mutual Slump by DJ Shadow. That Radio King kit is badass. I played on one of those 15 years ago and I'll never forget it
Their comedic chemistry is my favorite to watch. 😂
Kids remember just do DRUMS. Fred and Carrie gold. Thankyou SNL. Fred on the kit. 🤗🤗🤗
I love everything about this
I can never tell if Fred is telling the truth 😂
Edit: You know those awesome friends that will 100% go with whatever you say, even if they know damn well you’re lying? That’s these people 🤣
I asked fred armisen for an autograph once...all he said was ”why"...I said ”youre right" and walked off.
These guys are the best people!
The intro is a mashup of every single Portlandia couple...
They are so funny together
They're so trying to trigger drummers like me and it is working... God dammit.
God, I LOVE this!!! Fred's pretty darn good!
what a great duet!
man, i really adore Carrie. Fred's great too.
Lungfish is a hell of a band.
At 3:00 he joked about playing the cabaret metro. I remember seeing Trenchmouth playing the Metro, back in the day.
This felt like a Portlandia skit, loved it
Fred and the drum stand walker reminded me a ton of a musical version of Gilbert Gottfried's Old Groucho Marx.
Okay but can we talk about the accuracy of Fred's old man voice
fucking love carrie
Dude! Every time we would ship drums from the store the online shipping websites would ask "do you mean 'drugs'? Your order can't be shipped because it's too close to 'drugs'." Fred must have come across that too!
I got to meet my favorite band last year, even though it was just a photo opportunity, but still, it was cool and I didn't really freak out or anything being near them. However, I think I would get jittery and nervous if I ever met Carrie... which I do want, very dearly. But I would be a little like, "This isn't happening, this isn't happening!"
Fred Armisen is always hilarious to me. All time favorite personality, writer, comedian of mine. Ive paid attention to him for years, and he is a talented musician. It must be in his blood. And i learned something new! He is from Cuban lineage. I can see that. Cubans are on par if not a step up from other Latin countries. Now it all makes sense, lol. I watch Portlandia regularly. I crack up at his comedy. It's on par with Norm MacDonald, another all time genius comic/writer. Also i like the dynamic between Carrie and Fred.
Are they an actual couple? She accentuates Fred very well. Cheers!
Lol, he's not actually Cuban, that was a joke. He's actually Venezuelan. I watched an interview he did in Spanish and because I speak a little I understood that he was from Venezuela.
No they are not a real couple. But they are very good friends :)
it was a FKN JOKE jeezus
That is an incredible fact about Fred
2:55, Dude! I was just listening to Circus Lupus' "Super Genius" earlier today! "Marbles" is such a great song.
TRENCHMOUTH!..heh...I was at the Metro at that show, I couldn't remember the other bands though, thanks Carrie B! "..The volcanic action of my soul! ...ACTION!"
Great music
"I'm just a person!" 😂 They are gold. I love them so much.
Oh, and Carrie, will you marry me, please?
I heard of Carrie's band way before I ever hear of the show. Great music on Portlandia, the little bits and pieces make you feel like you've hear the songs before somewhere even though they don't exist. ps Carrie's character is a murderer and eeeverybody missed it, lol
I love Carrie😍
Fred is amazing!
Lungfish! Dude i fell asleep on the stage at a Lungfish show no kidding or exaggerating. I have listened to pop punk and skate punk since 85 with the Descendents, Bad Religion, NOFX, Fifteen, Crimpshrine etc so that was the music i listened to but a buddy of mine was a big emo fan (90's emo to be exact not to be confused with this garbage they call emo nowadays) and he invited me to see Lungfish(never heard of them before) at EMO'S in Austin TX so i said cool I'll go because I went to Austin all the time for shows (i live in San Antonio Texas about 1hr away). I listened to some emo bands like Hot Water Music, The Get Up Kids, and The Promise Ring but they were still a little upbeat compared to the slow emo stuff my buddy liked so when Lungfish started playing I was like dude this is toooooo sloooooow, i would always stand up front against the stage at shows and this time it wasn't a good idea because i got stuck up there and fell asleep with my head resting on the stage!
1thess523 what a great story lol that's hilarious
But lungfish is sooo good lol
i love them
My god, that bass drum sounds insane
Fred armisen is a comedic genius
Carrie is a genius.
Carrie is just so freakin’ gorgeous and charming @3:20
Carrie really is a rock star.
Luv Fred
underrated lesson
Excellent WALKERS !
2:55 Fred, my man, giving that Baltimore shout out.
They r such a hoot
Threw out the Lungfish reference just to prove how much of a scene kid he used to be.
His old guy is LEGIT 🤣
these 2 would have been great for a bandofoutsiders editorial. Too bad the label lost funds 😑
how do they get to the end of each sentence without laughing
some people have more than their fair share of talent!
😂😂😂 these two
Fred’s actually good!
Are they secretly doing a portlandia bit?
These two have such a hot, deep platonic relationship XD
You're Welcome!
Cicus Lupus?
Caberet Metro name drop, Chicago !!!
I knew Fred played drums (& many other instruments), but I didn't know Carrie did, it's really groovy, in a far out way, man. Bob. G
Carrie is or was part of a music group.
Circus Lupus. Yes, please.
The jazz drummer impression was acurrate.
Hahahahahahha i love them so much nerdies 😍
that's a Craviotto snare he's playing. I'd expect nothing less at Maxwell's.
circus lupus and lungfish.. yes!!
This was one of the most New York things ever.

Beats me.
*"Hey, you guys are fantastic. I'm the owner of a record label and I'd really like to sign you up. Are you interestested..."*
I love lung fish...I seen them in 97 hottest show ever!
You know what I think is the greatest? This mac n cheese.
S "EV" whatever your name is: I've heard of these people, and this is hilariously droll humor here; funny, amusing or clever. I think you don't get it, maybe? Yeah, I'm gettin that, real strong in my 3rd eye over here.
Richie B Apparently our definitions of droll are very different. Comedy is subjective. That said, I can't imagine how anyone can fit this droll or funny. That's all I was saying. You are into these people, then good for you. I don't find this funny or entertaining. I'm not trying to talk you out of enjoying it; not sure why you have to make this some deficiency on my part because I don't. Maybe you need to wipe the crap out of that "third eye."
Well, EV - All I said was you don't get it. It's not a deficiency on your part, and I didn't say it was, you did. My third eye is clear enough, thanks, clear enough to get this humor. Know what? I don't get the Dead. Not a deficiency, that. Of course, the downside of the type of humor in Portlandia is that some people are labeled unhip if they don't like it, which is unfortunate, and makes one feel left out of the smart kids club. Too bad about that.
Richie B
Jeez man. You're as passive aggressive as some of the characters on Portlandia. If you're gonna belittle someone by saying that they "don't get it" then stick with that. Don't go pretending you're the good guy.
ophidianima I am the good guy, you little nancy. Passive-aggressive? A concept way beyond what your little two-digit mind can handle, so please step off trying to act otherwise.
There you go, belittling again. Fuck this.
