Pridgen appeared alongside Tower Of Power's funk master David Garibaldi and the amazing technician Marco Minnemann on August 13, 2010, at the San Jose Reparatory Theatre to help raise funds for Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward, who tragically passed away of liver cancer the night before the event.

Thomas Pridgen is truly a GOD amongst man when it comes to drumming! You have to be blind to not notice the passion in his playing!
I totally agree with that. He also got a cousin that plays drums too, except he play for Suicidal Tendencies and Bel Biv DeVoe.

I've always loved Pridgen because you can just tell he loves to play the drums. And he's so tight and an all around amazing player. He'll always be my favorite
Ronald Bruner is so awesome, so smooth and fast, but no young drummer plays such complex fills and grooves as this dude. Mind boggling at times.
that's what I love from thomas, his brutal display of power. there is no subtle way of delivering the message it is just as strong as it is, so deal with it.
So much fire, I have never seen a single musician play with this much passion.

This guy has authority, holy goodness. I totally like the raw energy. Impossible to try this if you don't have endorsement deals, though.

@snorpthus i agree. Pridgen has this intense, clearly evident style of gospel chops while still incorporating a rock feel. His work with The Mars Volta proves it. This dude's brilliantly talented.

i kinda agree about the dynamics in this vid. You do need all sorts of dynamics to keep it interesting. but at the same time, thats what hes going for. dont doubt his full range of dynamics off one clip.

@arthurkitchen I do know that Ray Luzier has sick poly rhythms and is really constructive in playing, but the definition of "playing" by the word itself that's just got to be Thomas Pridgen and I also know that this wasn't his best solo, hehe... Try listening to Christian Scott's album entitled "Rewind That" check the tracks titled: Say it, Suicide, Kiel (by the way it's jazz) and also Zenith Patrol, tracks titled: State of grace, New joppi, Big easy. Of course drums are by Pridgen.
EVEN THIS IS UP TO DATE DRUM TECHNIQUE ON DISPLAY I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK OF THE FELLOWS FROM THE SIXTIES WHEN I SEE O TOMMY BOY PLAYING I MEAN IN THE TRADITION ENERGY OF JIMMY HENDRIX JOHN BONHAM, THE AGE OF AQUARIUS PSYCHEDELIC THE WOODSTOCK EPIDEMIC YOU KNOW WHEN THOSE BANDS WOULD PLAY UNTIL THEY PASS OUT
He yells when he messes up or doesn't quite land on the one, but it's hard to hear him mess up because he plays so chaotic, yet so controlled too.

Well I realize that Dennis Chambers will tend to yell here and there. My mentor said it was because of frustration, which is understandable because I yell when I fuck up a beat. But the more I watch this video the more I thought I saw him clip himself, and with his strength that could really fuck a brother up.
