Something about this song, speaks to both eras of Owl City. The repetitive rhythm of the old songs, mixed with the synth pop that defines the recent era.
there're some Adam quirks on this that are just sooo adorable: 0:14 the way he pronounces the 'o' in 'toast' 0:16 'broke down without fail' clever wordplay reminiscent of ATBAB 0:21 that little laugh 0:24 the energy with which he says 'I miss your smile'
Wooo! Sounds great. There's a bittersweet feeling, seeing this old dream of hootowls come to life but also knowing it will never be what it was originally going to be. I mean honestly I've grown up alongside a lot of Adam's music and I do like this current sound more than the old one. I just hope that somewhere in the song, maybe in the bridge, all the original "Trust Me" lyrics will be there. Speaking of lyrics, am I the only one that hears "I just can't wait to come home to my slice of heaven on toast"? What is that last word?? I'm sure it's not toast haha
Also right towards the end it sounds like it could easily flow into the "Carter James" melody. The bridge part particularly. Probably won't happen but it could be cool
I’m fairly certain it is “toast”. He’s playing with words. “slice of Heaven on toast” sounds to me like he’s either talking about his wife or his homestead :)
@@joshuawlodarczyk I really hope this song ends up being a similar length to “Adam, Check Please” and also there’s one thing that I’m slightly worried about. I’m worried that the full song won’t have the same lyrics as the snippet from 2014 because although we can hear Adam talking about his car trouble I preferred the old lyrics of the original snippet simply because the song carried a somewhat sad message in a bright tone and if I’m gonna be honest I think everyone will probably experience someone disappearing from their life for no reason at some point or another and it's unfortunate but we'll probably never know why they leave. One moment you're the best of friends then suddenly they're acting like you're just someone they used to know. It's on them of course, but it doesn't change how it'll impact your life. I don’t know why but the snippet had this type of love energy to it I mean just look at the original lyrics… [Verse 1] I've been driving all afternoon So leave on the porch light cause I'll be there soon And just forget all that you still regret 'Cause I need you to think this over again [Verse 2] Would you still feel alone if your nightmares left And they never returned home? I'll say it now cause it's long overdue Whatever happens, I'll never forget you The last line which reads (Whatever happens, I’ll never forget you) implies that no matter what happens you’ll always remember your best friend (or loved one) I’m really hoping that when this new version finally comes on March 1st it’ll still carry the tone and atmosphere of the original because I don’t want the lyrics to be too different. What are your thoughts on all of this?
Yeah I agree with that 100%! The original snippet was almost like a more bittersweet version of the message from All My Friends but with that signature happy Owl City sound. I'm not too confident that this new version will keep that old message. It'll probably be more of a fun song with a hint of a message like that. I'm definitely going to enjoy it either way buy I think we'd all freak out in the best way if Adam integrated that original message and lyrics in there, if not for anything other than an homage to the fans of that original snippet.
"Slice of heaven" is a common phase used to refer to something you love (in this case, Abbey) The "on Toast" part was added as a little joke because you commonly put "slices" of things on toast (i.e. cheese, butter)
“Slice of heaven” is a beautiful piece of land to me and could be a reference to that line in Montana “he bought 10 or 12 acres of heaven..”. Maybe Adam and Abbey got a slice of that property?

Nope, that's my edit.

@@pigeonboi5735how do we know it's abbey though? could also be mayonnaise which he seems obsessed with lol
@@owlsomeclipseIt would be kind of hard to slice mayonnaise 😂
