my wife has the Audi, I have the Volvo. we like both but she wants a Volvo next as we spend 90% of the long journeys in that one. volvos, made for long journeys.

You call this a review? Not even 4 minutes for two cars and according to you both are spacious with fancy dashbords, but Volvo wins for some reason. Not helpful at all.

+Khaled Farhad I was referring to his earlier reviews of both vehicles. Also his overall comments, not just about price and size. In all the European reviews that i've seen, the Audi's been rated higher.

I cant figure out why the entry to back seats of the Volvo was not shown, I might not recall it correctly but I got a vague memory telling me that they solved this entry in a very easy way.
Was not to keen on the Volvo at first sights but seeing it next to the Q7 which I also did not fancy much - I would opt for the Volvo for looks. Also that interior is rather beautiful and that is up against an AUDI which are making freaking great interiors, quite impressive Volvo.
Q7 all day.I own both xc90 sold after 8 months Q7 still have it 4 years now Quality, comfort plus many more a lot better.

Nothing is as good as a VW or an Audi come on grow some brain cells the Volvo does look good but it can never be the same quality as a German car
Not sure I like how Audi has stylized the Q7 to appear like a A6 Avant. Fear that some model uniqueness was lost
I am driving the old xc90 now and will switch to the new Audi this month. Honestly, Audi looks unconvincing here...but when you see it in person....you will fall in love with its majestic appearance, the classy design and the quality of the exterior finishing...,it really looks solid. The interior setting of the Q7 is unbelievable when you sit in there! (I have enough of those touch screen almost every day with my phone and would really want to avoid starring at another when you get into the driving seat in the case of the xc90)....I tested drive both cars, and the Audi Q7 is a class way above in terms of engine refinement, smooth engagement of gear and power transmission! You have got to be in the showroom to tell the difference! Pictures and images aren't really convincing !!!
If that is so why did they choose the xc90?
He mentioned that the touch screen is the star of the show....I suppose he loves the touch screen concept, but for me, the virtual cockpit in the Audi is simply cool!
They both great vehicles but for me id go for the classy styling of the Volvo also i love the Volvo interior and the class leading safety.

I still don't get why you can't get the Volvo with a V6 diesel. The V6 in the Audi is quieter, has better fuel economy, and more power. It wins in every place.. I'd pick the Audi any day. PErhaps I would pick the Volvo, if it had a better choice of engines. Audi didn't even bother to offer the Q7 with a 4 cylinder, because it's too small.

audi surely has a 2.0TFSI. volvo has decided not to bother with bigger engines as it puts all its chips on electrification. They're quite smart in playing a different game. the audi from 2 years ago possibly has broken down already

I completely agree. The Volvo is the better car. It's actually the first Volvo I would consider buying. BTW the Volvo's middle seat turns into a child seat.

Can you please compare the resale value?
Volvo is nicer, more spacey and comfortable and has larger cargo space. But why they were not able to make a decent sound insulation in the cabin ? Comparing to Audi and other premium brands, XC90 is much noisier inside - from engine and road and has very hard suspension (air or non-air does not matter). This is a serious shortcoming. "Luxury" car should start from a sophisticated silent cabin, not from Swedish flags on the seats ...
I've had both as well as a Touareg...as much as I want to "love" VAG products due to their styling they just don't hold up in the long run w/o lots of mainteance and things that break that shouldn't break. Buy a used XC90 w/o service records is still a safer bet then used VAG products with a complete history IMHO.

Volvo all the way! This new XC90 looks gorgeous! There's no comparison, the XC90's interior and exterior is much nicer than the Audi Q7's.
at the end of the day it comes down to vehicle quality and nothing is as good as a VW or an Audi it makes just about every car worth owning

Why do you ever need touch screen in the car? I cannot imagine that is is safe to tap 4 times to display on cruising 130 km/h just to turn off the seat heating.
Didn't he say the Volvo came with a 4 cyl diesel vs. Audi's 6 cyl.?
The XC90 isn't so impressive as it doesn't have enough horsepower e.g. there is a space in traffic and you push the pedal to accelerate the car, it has a slow response and you miss your spot. I know that the Q7 has bad seats in the 3rd row but who cares its amazing anyway.
The T8 has 400hp
There is no such thing as 'the XC90' when it comes to power: it comes with 5 different engines to choose from, ranging from 190hp/400Nm to 408hp/640Nm. The Q7 has comes with a whopping 2 different engines: 268hp/600Nm (diesel) or 333hp/440Nm (petrol). The fastest Q7 takes 6.1 seconds to reach 100km/h whilst the fastest XC90 takes 5.6 seconds. Audi forces doesn't let you choose except between diesel and petrol, at least Volvo does let you choose what type of engine suits your driving style.
So both in terms of horsepower and acceleration, the XC90 beats the Audi. Add the superior seats, sound system and in-dash controls and I think it's safe to say Volvo takes the lead.
I've always had a thing for Audi interiors but lately when it comes to design Audi has become so mundane and booring. Same with Mercedes where entire new models might differ technologically from the earlier generation but looks almost the same. Volvo is in a position now where they look fresh, new and exciting, they are up to par (on the s/v90 and xc 90) to what I would call a premium interior and offering, they are... dare I say... sexy.
Yes some might take issue with 4 cyl over 6 or 8, but I couldn't care less about that, more than enough power is on offer anyway and these are not sporty cars to begin with. I'd never buy such large engines anyway. My main issue with the latest Volvos is that I believe that huge screen will smudge like hell. But given the choice today, I'd take any of the new Volvos over any of their German rivals easily, and it wasn't long ago that that notion was utterly unthinkable. Well done Volvo.
Couldn't have been said better. Yes, the 4 cylinder is a little disappointing, but it's never lacking. The Audi may beat the Volvo in drive comfort and engine, but other than that the Volvo excels the Audi in every way possible. I'm not a Volvo fanboy btw
Let's not forget that Sweden is one of the greenest countries in the world, so it goes without saying that it is to be expected from Volvo to go for smaller efficient engines.

Not even in the same universe. XC90 has great looks, innovative design and space. Audi is a rock-solid, mature and uber-luxurious German-engineered SUV. Quality of materials, fit and finish, drive feel and comfort, technology and ergonomics are all Audi. Drive both to decide, but the Volvo matched up with a straining 4-banger is really not matched up with the Audi's velvet smooth six. It's a personal choice, but as a long time owner of BMW and Lexus, and having driven the Volvo and Audi for lengthy comparison runs, for drive, quality, comfort and functional engineering, Audi. For style, space and I would say even unique artistic design in a car, Volvo, particularly with the T8 configuration, but hampered with an often quirky driving interface that would look great in your office, but is less than efficient for a human propelling two tons if steel through the complicated physics of driving. They are automobiles, after all.
Q7 is from Slovakia, not Germany.
Built in Slovakia. Designed and engineered by a German company in Germany. Audi/VAG is a German company. Volvo is owned by a Chinese company, BTW, if that even matters. The S90 and XC60 are actually built in China. Is this even a question?

Both nice as ive owned an audi and recently drove the xc90 in this case the new q7 lacks style its a solid truck but against the volvo its boring in comparison, people have to go drive and look at both before making judgments audis have alot of reliability issues also which car these days dosnt best buy the car you like and forget about CZcams comparisons its this guys opinion on which car is better not yours!!

Have owned this vehicle for approx 15,000 KMs - although nice ride with plenty of bells & whistles BUT they cannot get something like the basic cruise control to work! Not only on mine but seems every XC90 has same issues! Still waiting for a cure for this so I can put on cruise longer than 10 mins !! Come on Volvo get this problem solved!!

Lmfao people will laugh their ass off if they see you in that xc90 while you could have gotten a Q7 for almost the same price, there is no competition, that small 4 cyl is just not enough and even uses more gas if something is attached to the car and you are going uphill.

I loved the XC90 SO MUCH!!!! Until the battery began dying on us and we had to take it to the dealer. Three times in a month.

+Vaibhav Chaudhary Actually, the car is very reliable. Those issues started happening after our car got into a crash. When the crash happened we took it to the shop to get it fixed. After the battery quit a few times they took a more 'in depth' look at it and sad some wire was loose. Now we have no issues

Handling? Engine? Fuel Eco? Poor review
XC90 all the way. Hasn't got the same obnoxious Audi-driver image. And the quality is not that special.
I can't believe all the Q7 bashing and people parroting the XC90 is so much nicer looking, safer and more value. Did people actually test drive these cars or armchair surf their opinion? Value the Q7 maxed out vs XC90 optioned out, the Volvo was actually more. The Tech in the Audi blows away the Volvo. Just about as safe in crash ratings. Performance no contest. Audi 3L supercharged V6 all over that 4 banger here in North America spec. I'm getting close to mid-20's mpg which considering the size and acceleration is pretty good. Volvo is roomier overall and some would argue better looking. Subjective. Lots of people have walked up and commented on the great looks of our 17 Q7. You can't go wrong with either but do look hard at both before making up your mind.
Audi is a pretty good deal for price. The volvo is very expensive. Audi starts at 54,800 dollars and volvo starts at 71,800

Volvo looks very sportive and elegant no doubt, but why the headlights look alike Audi a6/a7. Yes..it looks amazing with such design, but it not very confidential to copy an Audi design line!...:x
If you want to use 3 or more child car seats then forget about the xc90. There are no latch points in the third row, and third row access is impossible with three car seats in the second row defeating the point of having a three row vehicle.
Pretty silly to review two three row family vehicles without considering how you fit the car seats in.
The Volvo reminds me more of an tractor than a car. You really like the mid-dashboard in the Volvo? Sure it´s huge, but the standing vents and how it´s all shapped likes really bad. The leather in the Audi is also so much better, the Audi all together just feels so much more solid and better build. And this comes from a Swede...

They dream of driving volvos while I drive my Audi
Most of them don't even have a drivers licence, nor a car, yet they comment on family 4x4s like they have many years of experience with them. Volvo has won many more safety awards, and that in itself is a perfect selling point to any good parent. Then ofcourse there's the extra interior space, and not forgetting that new look they've come up with in these newer models. Anyway, take what you read in the comment section with a pinch of salt. Too many 'experts' and 'millionaires' on them apparently.
