Emma Thompson presenting Eugenio Zanetti with the Oscar® for Art Direction for "Restoration" at the 68th Academy Awards® in 1996. Hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.
I watched all the nominees and I really enjoyed Restoration. For art direction, I'd put it at #2 of the nominees, behind Apollo 13. Not sure how someone could say Apollo 13 didn't deserve a nomination in this category. The sets that we can compare with the real thing, like the command module and mission control, were recreated with stunning accuracy. Other sets were amazing in their period detail. It really looked like 1970. For art direction, I'd put A Little Princess at #3 and Babe at #4, although I think Babe was a better film. Meanwhile, Richard III was just terrible.
Apollo 13 deserved it's nomination. Great production design and art direction!

Apollo 13 won the BAFTA for Production Design after the Oscars (up until 2000, the BAFTAs took place after the Oscars).
I'm not a great fan of RESTORATION overall but Eugenio Zanetti and James Acheson made something really precious!
GENIAL EUGENIO !!!!!!!!!!

Did Braveheart deserve a nomination?
Braveheart didn't just deserve a nomination. It deserved to WIN.
''Apollo 13'''s nomination seemed out of place.
How?
Whoopi is terrible.
