  • Welcome back! With reports that Erik Ten Hag has met and impressed club officials at Manchester United, join me as I go through 5 things that Ralf Rangnick and Man Utd can do before the end of the season to help the next permanent manager be a success.
    Statman Dave Clips ➡ bit.ly/StatmanClips
    First up they need to start incorporating youth. During his 4 full seasons at Ajax, Erik ten Hag has built two fantastic teams by moulding young talents, notably academy graduates, into Champions League quality players through his coaching and tactics. Manchester United already have a number of hot prospects in their youth setup that could be ready to make the step into the first team with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Charlie McNeil and Alejandro Garnacho impressing in the youth setups.
    The next is to acquire a defensive midfielder. The position has been a problem for years but Erik Ten Hag’s tactics depend on a suitable player who can anchor his midfield to provide balance in attack and protection against the transition. Declan Rice is an ideal candidate whilst cheaper alternatives include Aurélien Tchouaméni and Kalvin Phillips. Strengthening United’s soft centre will also help the defence who will have extra protection in front of them, making United a more difficult team to break down.
    ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: bit.ly/StatmanDaveCZcams
    Manchester United also need to acquire a mobile central defender to improve their ability to defend with a high line and bring in a left footed right winger to help Ten Hag implement his tactical identity. Left footed attackers have been very influential in Ten Hag’s Ajax teams meanwhile Manchester United have a big imbalance favouring right footed senior forwards. Bringing Antony with him from Ajax or signing Raphinha from Leeds United would be transfers that would make big improvements to United’s first team although expect Amad Diallo to be given a chance under a new manager.
    ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: bit.ly/SMDTwitch
    And finally, the most important one on the list, Manchester United have to create a long term transfer strategy and appoint a Director of Football who is responsible for transfers. Even if Erik ten Hag is unsuccessful, by creating a long term strategy the club can continue to improve by purchasing the right players and employing the right coaches. With a Director of Football who is able to oversee the progress, United can overhaul their squad - getting rid of players who don’t want to be there and building a squad of hungry and talented footballers. Only by doing this year on year will Manchester United be able to return to football’s top table.
    But what do you think? Is there anything else that Manchester United need to do to help Erik ten Hag? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

      Not going to happen, and FAR more important things to be thinking about rather than if Harry has the armband or not.
      Only a plastic fan sits there thinking that the number one issue is HM.
      Look at all the players that are going to be leaving in the summer. Look at the MASSIVE overhaul needed in the squad. And you’re more concerned about what is technically a token gesture, in who gets to wear an armband?
      ALL players on that pitch should be captains. Look at the best United teams of the last 30 years - Bruce, Pallister, Keane, Cantona, Irwin, Stam, Vidic, Schmeichel, Ferdinand…they were all captains, with or without the armband.

    This is spot on.. my top picks for signings are Gvardiol (who is still relatively unknown but has world class potential) Tchouameni and Antony/ Raphinha for RW. Schlotterbeck is another good shout for CB tho, just got a Germany call up!

    • @mcsauce2654
      @mcsauce2654 Před 2 lety +6

      No dude, Gvardiol is a back 3 CB. N'dicka or schlotterbeck as you mentioned would be the best choices.
      Everybody wants Tchouameni so we can hope but Kamara would better to secure.
      We don't really need a young RW if you don't want to throw out all of our youth talent and play Rashford as our striker, so the best attacking option would be Nkunku who can play anywhere in attack.
      The prios are Kamara and N'dicka. Then a versatile attacking player in Nkunku.
      After that signings like Nunez or Hlozek and Inacio(could name more) that aren't for sure starters should be made, positions where our youth can't cover it all

      To some, no young united players are “good enough’ Yet given a chance many young players have thrived in other teams because they have been given a chance. Foden, Saka, Mount, Bellingham, Smith Rowe, Tellesman. It took them a season or two, but given opportunities and coaching for the young players to flourish in the first team. And stop spending big bucks on similar aged players when Man United have similar players that need opportunities in the first team. Develop them and then sell them off at their peak.

    "Both teams of Manchester City and Liverpool - I also watched the Liverpool game today - they also had problems to find their rhythm but in the end, they still won 2-0 quite comfortably," Rangnick said. "Those two teams have been built together and recruited over a period of five or six years, all of them under the premise of how do the coaches want to play?
    "We spoke about that already yesterday, and this is what has to happen. That far I can go right now. I told the board this is what has to happen. Whenever the new head coach is clear, it has to be how does he want to play and what kind of players do we need for that?
    "Then we come back to DNA, speed, physicality, tempo, what do we need? This team does not lack technical players, it can do with more physicality.
    "It has to be a bit in the DNA of a player, to be honest. It is difficult to change, shall I say a technically great player into a physical, aggressive player, and we have a lot of people who are technical players.
    "It is as it is and it is difficult to change. I do not think it is to do with mindset, it is to do with the DNA of players.

Personally, my centre back signing is Kounde, but how would you feel about Tuanzebe potentially coming back in a similar way to how Mengi would? Always shown promise and was very impressive against PSG, but then got dropped again immediately. I also suspect that ten Hag will flip his system and play his inverted winger as a right footer on the left, such as Sancho and rashford (though I'd rather a replacement for Rashford to allow Sancho to continue on the left)

    • @smith549371

    • @Stewii04
      @Stewii04 Před 2 lety

      @@smith549371 Yeah I totally agree since Sancho can do either and Rashford is useless off the right but that's why I wanna replace him, Rashford has been awful recently but is being forced into the team on the left when imo Sancho's best performances have come off the left, we should sign a creative right footed right winger but I can't think of someone who fits that perfectly unless we take a gamble on someone injury prone (like Dembele or Coman), someone who isn't particularly creative/very young and raw/not the finished product (Barnes, Doku, Rodrygo), someone who isn't a natural right winger/is left footed (Martial, Raphinha, Antony) or someone who just isn't good enough. I don't see where that Player comes from unless we go for a left winger and carry on pushing Jadon onto the right

    @JamilYassinMaj72 Před 2 lety

    Totally agree to give academy players a shot instead of sending them out on loan and buying from out. Elanga is the perfect example who would have gone out on loan if not spotted by Rangnick. United have more than 10 players out on loan including players they have bought like VDB, Pellestri and Amad. If United dont think they fit into their plans, move them on to thrive elsewhere. Make some money and save on wages. Only 11 can play with another dozen for subs.

    It’s not going to happen overnight for ten Hag.
    We’re looking at a mass exodus of players in the summer:
    - Matic
    - Pogba
    - Mata
    - Martial
    - Lingard
    - Cavani
    Ronaldo is another year older, and none of the regular defence is good enough.
    If it’s a good summer window, three decent players will be brought in. That’s still nowhere near enough for squad depth for next season, and also expecting all the summer signings to hit the ground running which is easier said than done.
    It’s going to take multiple transfer windows to build a squad. If ten Hag is to be trusted and is as good as his reputation makes out, it will mean supporting him in buying the type of players he believes fit his style of play.
    We’re seeing it at Liverpool, where all signings are players who fit in with Klopps philosophy. They don’t buy superstars like Pogba, and they don’t pay over the odds like we do (look at how little their forward line costs) yet they all have the correct mentality and attributes and have a real work ethic.

It's always been "mates rates" upstairs.
