The only way I can prevent cortisol is to leave my job, kids and husband, and move to a desert island 😂
Lol
Yep, I was thinking “I’m married to the person who causes me the most stress”, lol
Lol
Jbug that doesn't reduce cortisol
Same
1. Vary your fasts
2. Avoid processed foods (look to see if you’re eating toxic foods). Go clean foods!!
3. Exercise- vary it and make sure to give recovery days
4. Mindset matters!! Unplug from negativity whether from social media, thoughts, people, self talk! Start listening to people who are positive. Turn off the TV. Immerse yourself in a positive environment
Another commenter said to add:
#5. Sleep schedule and the importance of getting good sleep every night! Believe they say it’s best to keep consistent schedule every night too
👍
You are a darling, thanks 👍
Are frozen vegetables come under process food
Thank you!!!!
You're the mvp
Agree with all your points but believe you’ve left one very important one out. Sleep. Most people, especially women need much more sleep than we get on the regular. Just my 2¢. ✌🏼
Absolutely. I could IF better if I could sleep hungry. I literally had to stop a successful two years IF because my cortisol levels where through the roof from the lack of sleep.
@@MRSyelgnal Maybe move your eating window to bedtime. Eat later in the day, and eat some carbs before bed to set off sleepy times.
@@nunnunnunyabizzie2345 honestly, I have done that without trying. Im often not hungry during the day. It's not working. I honestly don't feel great doing it and my weight isn't budging. But I can modify the eating window to later. I'm not so much going to IF like 2/18 or anything on the more extreme level. Just get my eating in the day and not eat right before bed. When I don't eat before bed, it helps with the thyriod swelling, too.
@@MRSyelgnal I fast ALL DAY LONG during daylight hours and then I exercise and then I eat dinner even if it’s midnight . I eat before bed bc cannot sleep if I’m hungry.
Interesting…I need to test this for myself.

A day of rest is critical. Our creator knew that when he commanded it.
Yes.

Yes, He didnt give Shabbat without a reason
News flash: there is no 'creator'. Have you heard of evolution?
@@tonirose6776 The THEORY of evolution postulates that as mankind evolved, the older version of himself died out. If that's so, and we were to have evolved from apes, how is it that we can go to a zoo and see an ape in a cage? 🤪🐒 Oh, and while you're at it, explain how there are fossils at the Grand Canyon that evidence the great flood of scripture. And artifacts found at the bottom of the Red Sea evidence the attempted crossing by Pharoah's army. Ever heard of doing your homework before removing all doubt as to your stupidity?
I was in an abusive relationship for I er 40 years. When I got away I collapsed. My cortisol was so high and had been so long they were sure I had adrenal cancer. From this I got fibro. And the fat just piled on layer After layer. I'm healing slowly after being bed ridden for a decade. It feels like my whole life has been in prison. But I'm still a grateful.person and I think that has helped me slowly i'm ready to have a part of my life be free and healing.
@jooniper93fibromyalgia is likely what they were referring to
I feel for ya, that's tough. I've read you can become cortisol resistant from being so stressed for so long, just like insulin resistance. Might look into some remedies for cortisol resistance, maybe something that could help with everything else🤷 good luck with everything
Praying for peace and joy for you ❤
Same here I know exactly what you are saying!
Praying for you! 🙏
Fasting - easy. Clean food -getting easier. Exercise - walking is enough. Thoughts - omg, meditation and mindfulness help but its a daily battle.
Mike from High Intensity Health says that walking is not enough. You need to have at least, at the very least, 8000 steps a day combined with exercise. I don’t have time to do both of those things every day. I can either choose to go for a 3 1/2 mile walk or get on the peloton and do a 45 minute spin class.
Well, that's his educated opinion, however I disagree. @HH-gv8mx
@@absinthemindedJ no it’s not his opinion. He was reading it out of a study from a scientific medical journal. I wish 8-10,000 steps was enough. But to also have to incorporate a hit training workout or some type of zone to cardio of running combined with strength training most days of the week. It’s just like who’s got time for all of this… Something has to give. I used to do this, but I would have to sacrifice sleep. Which made me gain weight, because when you don’t get enough sleep, it messes up your hormones increases insulin resistance.
So if you can't walk allot. That is why exercise equipment was developed. How about an elliptical to makeup for lost time.....
@@HH-gv8mxit’s still his opinion based on a study he read. There is testimony after testimony stating weight loss with just walking and proper nutrition.

Spiking cortisol when we:
Fasting - we spike a bit of cortisol, our body adapts well to a bit of stress. Do fasting variations so the variation ensures cortisol doesn’t stay high. Don’t do the same fast everyday, especially the OMAD fast.
Food - highly processed food spikes our cortisol. Sixty percent of grocery store foods are high in sugar and seed oils. Am I eating toxic food? Is my food clean…natures carbs? All the extra cortisol gots into fat reserves.
Exercise - when pushing our body metabolically through exercise we need to be sure to have recovery days. Vary exercise. Push hard but follow up with walks. Not every exercise has to be all out. Take walks, relax in the sunshine , etc.
Thoughts - our mind set matters. Listen to your self talk How am I talking to myself? Are my thoughts negative? Am I kind to myself? What am I reading? What types of people am I talking to?
Turn off the tv, find new positive friendships…immerse yourself in a positive environment.
Healing g takes time. Fall in love with our beautiful bodies!

You are so right! We can find peace and quiet through prayer, reading the Proverbs and staying away from toxic people.
When i feel stress, at any time, i do the breathing exercises ( smell the roses....blow out the candles). This really works for me!

Thanks for the visual
I just started exercising but I’m not pushing my body. I can’t afford to make my cortisol levels go higher. Sometimes I will avoid conversations with people who cause stress. I have to do what’s best for my well-being.

I have finally come to the conclusion that i have to get my cortisol spikes under control. I have fasted and done other food changes but I have a complete cortisol belly that won't budge. Hoping to figure this out so I can finally lose the weight. Thank you for the video .
my local supplement store gave me ashwagandha for it but not formula product they were against formula products they are probably inprecise for the purpose but yeah complete intake control is cruical do not eat old food do not eat low quality food, and so on. Sleep super important. Environment super inportant. Air quality noise.
@ChuckNorris-lf6vo ashwaganda has side effects. High libido is one of many. It sounds great but it's not

I lost the belly weight by going keto, but before going keto, you have to be careful in advance to make sure that you supplement with all the vitamins and minerals that keto leaches out of you. Nobody told me about that! So, along with the fat, I lost a lot of collagen. It aged me by about 10 years in less than 6 months! And it's a lot harder to get collagen back than it is to prevent losing it in the first place. It's two years since I went keto and intermittent fasting, and I'm just now starting to level out and regain some collagen! But I have kept the weight off the entire time. I went from a size 6 to a size 2 in just 6 months!
Lost 16 lbs in 6 wks. I am age 67. 20 lbs to go! Thank you, Dr. Mindy! Love your CZcams videos.
Awesome! 🙌💪
That’s wonderful, Lynda! Congratulations. Is it from fasting alone?
Absolutely the best message you can teach!!! Bravo

Thank you for your beautiful message. You can’t heal a body you don’t love ❤️ we need to hear that more often. Xx
💙🎉 we sure do!
Dr Mindy, I am so blessed to have discovered you! I own three of your books and have bought several copies of Fast Like a Girl for friends and family. I love sharing my journey with everyone who asks me what I did to look so good. I tell them I went on intermittent fasting to cure some problems the doctor said could not be cured. I’ve learned how to eat healthy when not fasting and I feel so much better. I have lost 55 pounds in eight months and feel great. Cortisol levels spike sometimes but not often anymore. Thanks to better health I’m going on a cruise vacation! Thank you
This is so exciting!! You are freaking awesome. Congratulations! 🎉💪 Enjoy that cruise girl! 🛳️
Spot on ! Detoxing from social media, removing yourself from toxic relationships/situations, meditation/prayer all help.❤ #selflovejourney

Thank u so much for this. Long fasting is not for everyone every day.
Hi Dr Mindy the game changer for me is PLAIN Organic Greek Yogurt, " unsweeten" I'nstead of having a full serving at once. I'll have 1 hefty tablespoons , in between hunger, or on a empty stomach to make the gut happy, before my 1st meal. The weight came off. I do squats to keep glucose low. 4 sets of 10, with ease. . key is finding the hacks and mixing things up ! thank u so much .
This is very interesting! I just discovered the same thing. Instead of having a full serving at breakfast I split it into 2 smaller daily servings!
Omg this I have to try!! Thank you both. I am going to try both of your techniques.
One of the things that helps me on days that I walk is to look for things. What do you like to collect wildflowers? Beautiful rocks, seashells old bottles? I do this out in nature, and it makes the walking and the hiking and sometimes the climbing up and down in rugged terrain more zen.
That sounds awesome! 🙌
@@DrMindyPelzI comment for the free literature but never receive it????
Agree on this with hiking! Luckiky I live in Europe so even if I don't go on hikes or walks as an acrivity I walk plenty. We walk pretty much everywhere that's not super far away.

Thank you Dr Mindy for this awesome message
🙌 thank you for watching
Great reminder to always be careful of the messages we are giving our bodies. Bodies and minds do not interpret messages the same.
I‘m pretty sure this is one the main reasons I didn’t lose weight even though I was exercising and thinking about just the calories.
Same. I have on my weighing app a whole year of going up and down 2-5 lbs. I was in the gym every day, eating very low cal for an entire year at 300lbs. I was super fit ...but fat. The fat would not shift. My cortisol was through the roof and I was starving. Weight loss happens with watching insulin (remove all sugars and sweeteners) and low grade exercise like walking and moderate lifting. Lots of sleep, water, light exercise, decent fasts but not too many, calming techniques, plenty of rest, and good whole food in a healthy calorie deficit... and patience! That is the key. This is all people need. I've been on this journey and researching for a very long time ...I've done it all wrong over and over. My eyes are open now.
Less is better as a woman. Men's bodies work differently. We need fat and breakfast. Try to IF in the evening/night.
Thank you Mindy I get the stress out bye gardening and growing a lot of organic food without the toxins!! Nothing like a little dirt 😊
That's awesome! 🙌

I'm 70. Since age 35 I have been told I have high cortisol that needs to be reduced. Told to relax by doctors! That's it! Apparently, 4 children, full time job, sole support, mom going to school 2 nights a week is not able to relax during my down time of cooking, laundry and studying. Those children are adults now with families of their own. I have a quiet, serene life and feel content with my life but still have high cortisol. Earthing Movie (the Grounding Documentary is also good but I preferred Earthing movie) has additional information for lowering cortisol and inflammation.
I don’t even have kids and I know I have high cortisol. I get anxiety for no reason and my hands and feet/legs will get numb on and off, mostly when I’m at home. It’s SO annoying! Today I listened to a hypnosis video. Also, going outside does help especially if just sitting in the grass. I need to watch the Earthing documentary.

Sounds like you need electrolytes. Most buy those expensive electrolytes powders (which is find) but, you can also take magnesium, potassium before bed in pill form and then add a good quality salt to your food & water. He also has vds on how to lower cortisol.

Fasting in general is great for most, but is it also recommended for hypothyroidism. Strict keto and fasting seems to raise cortisol so high that sleep was impossible. Trying to fond balance is challenging and weight very slow to lose.
I want to apologize for every time I forget to like ur videos. I love them.
Mom of 7 trying to work and keep a somewhat clean house is so stressful, I don't think my cortisol levels ever come down
I have 8 and I completely agree I feel like I am in a constant state of stress and I am at my heaviest I tried low carb I tried fasting I tried ozempic metformin and the one that makes you hyper my max loss was 30 lbs but didn't keep it off. It's exhausting.

Dr Mindy, most of us that are struggling to lose weight are doing all the right things that you mentioned and are abiding by your great suggestions, but they aren't helping because of one thing: stress. I'm not referring to stress from fasting or from exercise or from unhealthy processed foods, but real life mental and emotional stress - such as from our jobs or from caring for a very sick or terminally ill family member. I'm in my late 50s, post-menop, and prediabetic with NAFLD. I started my IF/Keto journey in Jan '24. Been doing all the right things and am now down about -33 lbs, feeling pretty good. Began wearing a CGM for about 8 weeks ago. Until reacently, didn't really have any stress in my life. My weight "plateued" in March/April, I think it was my body telling me to take it easy. I began walking 30m several times a week, tried varying my fasts, but my weight sort of just fluctuated -/+ 2-3 lbs, never really went down and stayed down. I gave up on fasting for a little while and stuck to healthy keto. Then in early May, I decided it had been long enough. I followed an 18/6 IF protocol for 6 straight days and lost 7 lbs! It was great to break through the plateu finally, but my body said "not so fast" (no pun intended) and I immediately added back 2 lbs. Then two weeks ago my job unexpectedly became highly stressful. For the last two weeks I have seen with my own eyes in the CGM app that my blood glucose levels are now way higher than they had been before the stress was introduced. Yesterday I fasted 19 hours and ate two meals. When I stepped on the scale this morning, I expected to see my number just a little lower or about the same as yesteday. I'm mean, why not, right? I'm doing what I've always done and it's worked in the past. Wrong! It actually went up 2.6 lbs. I was shocked! There is no logical reason for that. It's stress, I know it is. Or more accurately, it's the hormone cortisol that is causing my blood glucose to be high which is affecting my ability to burn fat. It's frustrating, but I just have to deal with it and stay patient. I will try a 3 days water fast to see what happens. If my weight doesn't go down or immediately rebounds, then I know that the only thing for me to do (for now) is to stay the course, trust the process, and stick to what I know has been working for me. Once the stress is gone, I know I'll start losing more weight again. Meditation, light exercise, yeah those are all good, but they don't remove the cortisol.
You are not alone. You could have been writing my story. Hold the course. I belive that you can do this.
I feel you....I'm caring for a son with schizophrenia..and two special needs grandkids with an exhaust mum. Living on benefits, no heating, no hot water, not enough money for food etc. On the bright side fasting saves me money on food bills 🤣
Thank you for this great information.
🎉💙 thank you for watching!
Extremely informative thank you 🙏😊

Goodness, too much exercise totally threw me back into cortisol imbalance and caused a rebound of insomnia a few weeks ago!!! I loove to work out, especially fell in love with dancing work outs, but they are really vigorous (basically 30 min of lots of jumping pumping). And then this all plays mind games because I failed amd this causes evem more stress, f ing vicious circle!!! Also with fasting I tend to overdo it, because I feel so good not eating. Goodness, I am an overperformer in so many areas of my life. 🤣 but its okay. Getting back now into track of loosing that weight, 10kg to go. And now that I know what caused that circle, that I really need to watch out for the cortisol for me personally. Magnesium helps me a lot here though. And God sure is the biggest help!!!
This is sooo truth, I did everything right and until I started doing relaxing exercises like walking and breathing, I have started to lose weight, because my mindset has adjusted to my new habit of walking almost everyday I have a day off and my mindset has started to shift as well so they definitely go together in a train! Take her advise because I also know is truth and it works.
You're doing awesome! 🙌
I started fasting last August and lost a lot of weight. In December I was hit by a lot of emotional stress and issues, that went on until recently.

I was full of energy and over did it my exercise, I was eating good food, but one day I couldn't get up out of bed because of the pain all my body, I was losing weight now I'm under a Doctor, I pushed myself to hard by over exercising and now I put more cabs in my diet.
💪
I don't think I had enough in me to fight the pain from over exercising, and not enough cabs I was to much into the keto diet which I don't do any more, I was changing my fasting hours all the time.
Could you do the video where you list all of nature's carbs? I feel like it should be obvious to me what those options are, but it isn't. I'd love to know what my healthy options are. Thank you! Your videos are wonderful. Keep them coming!

😢 totally!! Thsnk you dr mindy. “ you cannot heal a body you hate” that really hit me. As a domestic violence survivor, i still have body image problems & ptsd. Which was layered on after the other person was removed from the situation. I struggle with that terribly. What advice would you offer to someone still dealing with this mess? Im still figuring out my trauma response/ fight or flight reaction. Deep dive
💙🙏 I am cheering you on in that deep dive!! It's a journey and you are on your way. Remember to scan the horizon to bring calm to that fight or flight response.
When you feel your cortisol rising, move your body. So important to move. 💙 Speak kindly and lovingly to yourself. Thank your amazing body for protecting you and keeping you alive. YOU do hard things. 💙
100% agreed. Im not a breakfast person & i have a high stress job with long commutes, so in the mornings i started having water, few walnuts & a smalll cup of tea with collagen powder. What a big difference that made! My face, body & belly is less bloated, plus i feel my energy levels are balanced, im less hangry, tired & feel so much better eating 3 or 4 small meals a day. Im 40 now, just started this recently & ive got my period back. Prior to that my whole life was sports, over training, restrictive diets, intermittent fasting everyday, plus stressful job & looking after the home. I no longer live that way. And yes I'm still overweight, but Its all about self love ladies. Just listen to your body, be kind to yourself and love and accept yourself unconditionally ❤

How are you doing that? I ruminate also. Working on it.
@@brendakemp9060 its a win-win / win-lose / loose-loose historical data saved in brain. To fix rumenation simply decide to Win-Win every time going forward. Basically.
@@brendakemp9060 I watched some good CZcams videos. When it starts, I call it out and tell my mind to stop ruminating instead of entertaining it. Most of the things I ruminated about I couldn't change anyway. I have so much more space in my mind now to enjoy the present.
@brendakemp9060 for me, mindfulness means thinking about what I'm thinking about. If I'm ruminating on the people I dislike at work (a common theme lol), I catch myself and say two things. Say, I am in this moment right now, not the past or the present, but here and now being my best self, I put my hand over my heart and breath in purity. Then I say affirmations, I am great, I am worthy, I am positive, I love myself. Then repeat.
Dr. Mindy, thank you for this awesome video on cortisol!🎉
This is a question on fasting but not related to cortisol. I’m hoping you’ll still answer. I’m trying to heal naturally after a hormone positive breast tumor was removed Jan this year. (Skipped the radiation-chemo/drugs). I’ve been researching and have seen/heard conflicting info that fasting can starve tumor cells. But then also saw that it can cause them to grow. Would you share what’s true on fasting & tumor cells? Does it actually starve their blood supply & kill them off or fuel their growth??
Relora seems to be helping me! Research it 💜

also from Dr. Mindy Pelz I learned to reduce cortisol with melatonin tablets, less caffeine and with dinner before sunset! thank you! you have published great books with many useful information!
😘
Thank you for sharing! 💙
I believe this is where I’m at. I have gone 3 weeks where I have had at least 2 36 hr fasts each week, 1 24 hr fast, and intermittent fasting the rest of the time. I’ve been intermittent fasting for a few months now anyway. I was trying to lose some weight before an event. Im about 50 pounds overweight. I walk daily as well. But my stress is high regularly-rushing woman. I have not budged in my weight! I thought I would at least lose a few pounds. Stumbled upon another video about healing the HPA axis so Im going to step back and work on healing that first. Hoping this will work.
You've got this! 💪
Thank youuuu!!!

You are a beautiful human Dr Mindy ❤️

I nodes when I started eating real foods, that I was getting less and less grumpy and negative. Now I’m a positive happy person. Lost 16 kilos in 3and a half months without going to the gym.i feel so good. Never put processed foods in my body again.
Love your videos. Greetings from the Netherlands ❤
Way to go!! 💪🙌
I have to take cortisone to replace the cortisol my body doesn't make and even though I take a minimal amount ir still gave me belly fat. 😱When I had next to no cortisol left and almost died I was so thin it was scary. So I totally see how people who have high cortisol can loose weight by lowering it.I'm trying to loose weight but it's difficult since I often have to interrupt a fast because I tend to get extremely hypoglycemic.
Thank you! ❤

Also I find being in, around or near water really helps with calming the nervous system.
Nature in general but ESPECIALLY nature with water - trails with creeks, areas with ponds and lakes, of course the ocean if possible, and even outdoor swimming pools with trees and bushes nearby. So calming!
Also, indoors, Epsom salt baths. (Extra points for indoor plants near the bathtub 😊.)
Ok. But what about supplements that you can take to help??
Some food plans (for reduction of weight) discourage exercise due to cortisol and disordered eating habits.
Thanks Mindy, I've been doing 18 & 6 for quite a while, at a steady weight but have high morning blood sugar constantly. I'm sure it is a cortisol pump that creates it. I tried skipping coffee to no avail. The changing fast may help drop the cortisol pump.
Yes, variation is key. 💙
Thank you.
