    There is a difference in the pressure relief valve that you stated was the same. There was a TSB about the PF48E and switching to the UPF48R to rectify low oil pressure symptoms that cause the P5201 code of low oil pressure. I believe the PF48 and the UPF48R is the same internals but just a thicker shell/higher burst pressure on the R version for the corvette. Something to note.

    I prefer to use the PF61E because it is slightly taller, has more filter media than a pf46e.

    As always, very well organized and very well presented.
    I've used ACDelco PF filters on my low mileage sunny weekend 2006 Corvette convertible since new and, for my use, they're fine.
    Howver, I might switch to UltraGuard Gold, for little other reason than "What the hell why not?"

    People say expensive filterz for new engines, but cheap filterz for old enginez. It makes more sense to ALWAYZ use the best filterz because crud needz to be caught 24/7 in order to get the 300,000+ that us old fogeyz get out of most all of our rigz. ZS are because it is close to nap time! Lol PS WARM IT UP BEFORE YOU REV IT UP according to all my racing buddies.

    In 2021, this all got renamed. ACDelco Professional for oil filters is now ACDelco OE. ACDelco Specialty, which includes Ultraguard Gold, is now ACDelco Gold (Specialty), which should not be confused with ACDelco Gold tier, which is less than OE.

    What filter filters better of these two.
    To me, the bottom line is which filter does a better job at filtering.
    I like to see how filters would clean better used oil on the bench.

  • @bnolin5186
    @bnolin5186 Před 4 lety +6

    One thing to consider about these filters is with the GM vehicles that have AFM (Active fuel management),
    The oil passages are very tight, the flow rate on the Pro is around 12 GPM with “if I remember correctly” , 22 micron filter... the nylon core may have a better flow rate being more open than the Ultra with a steel core, also, it doesn’t take large particles to potentially clog a lifter passage and cause the dreaded failure the AFM systems are know to have..
    The ultras are more robust, but in my experience I saw slight oil pressure drop both times I decided to try the Ultras. Never have I seen it drop with the Professional series.
    Just an FYI, great video man!

    Maybe you mentioned but I missed....Is the Filtering Material the SAME on both AC DELCO examples?

  • @westcoastronnieOC714
    @westcoastronnieOC714 Před 2 lety

    Between the two filters I wonder what the flow rates are? Are they the same? Because with the professional series the inside core is plastic and it seems like it has a better flow rate versus the gold one where it has a solid core with smaller holes inside. I've read reviews where people bought the gold filter for their Silverado and they noticed that their oil pressure gauge was fluctuating up and down. one review said that his oil pressure gauge dropped down to 18 PSI. so I questioned the flow rates on these. Anyways thanks for the video it's really cool. I know there's a lot of great filters out there but I'm still going to stick with the professional series only because the plastic inner core seems that the oil would flow better through it. Just my opinion. I think the wix XP has a similar inner core I would probably buy that one to try it out because it's pretty much similar to the professional. I have two Chevy silverado. one is a 2011 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 and the other one is a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x2. and I run mobile one extended performance through both of them. recently pulled the plugs off my 2011 Silverado which only has 50,000 mi here in 2022 and the plugs were flawlessly clean. just a little tan in color no carbon buildup whatsoever. completely happy. going to keep running the same oil never going to change. also I changed my oil between 4 and 5,000 miles.

    I always use OEM filters. For a daily driver they are fine. If there is ever an issue with the engine the first thing they can point out is an aftermarket oil filter and possibly deny warranty work. I use the ac Delco PF63e on my Tahoe and have no problems. IMO the these filters are really only good for around 5k miles. Oil is cheap, filters are cheap. No excuse not to change oil.

    For just $4, you can get a standard Motorcraft filter at Walmart or Amazon and it's built just as good as the $7 AC Delco filter and it even has a silicon valve versus the rubber valve on the AC Delcos. The basic AC Delco $4 filter looks about as poorly made as the basic Fram filter. No thanks.

    You obviously know little to nothing about a wet lubrication system of an internal combustion engine. The purpose of the check valve in a canister type filter is to maintain oil in the upper portion of the engine so it doesn’t “drain back” into the oil sump. Gravity will keep oil in the filter, not the check valve “or as you refer to it as, drain back valve. I’m guessing you read that off the side of the box, there’s not an engineer in the world that calls it a drain back valve”. Second thing, the bypass system is operating constantly while the engine is running, not just on cold starts or when the media becomes less permeable as you stated. The bypass valve is designed to close only after the oil has reached it normal operating temperature and pressures. Every time you accelerate excessively (passing a vehicle on the highway, jackrabbit starts, etc.) the bypass valve will open, to some degree, allowing whatever amount of oil that doesn’t pass through the media to still be available for lubrication and cooling. You probably had some other false statements in the video but I’m going to be honest with you, I skipped through a lot of it and stopped watching after I realized you did absolutely no credible research for this video. And no, reading the marketing wank off of the box or from their website does not count as research.

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  Před 4 lety +6

      Thank you. On the contrary, ISO is one source I use to research prior to uploading. By the sound of it, you know who and what they are. Secondly, I agree on gravity being a facilitator for retaining oil in the filter. A Chevrolet small block is a perfect example. However, there are vehicles, such as a modern Subaru, that place the oil filter above the engine block. Without the drain back valve, oil would drain out of the filter upon turning off the vehicle. I appreciate the comment. Cheers.
