    No way he got arrested for just taking it out of the water?? He had to have killed it. So many people take small ones like that out of the water to remove the hook and take a quick pic. Even FWC’s website says it’s ok to briefly take small ones out of the water

      He took it home that is the furthest away from catch and release I have ever seen.

    Why fine a random kid when charter captains and youtubers do the same thing on a daily basis?

    If you release it, it’s still illegal? You can’t really dictate what bites your line

      you need to release it, if you bring it back to your house like in the photo it's illegal

    judging from the picture, he took the grouper back to his house. He would've been fine if he released it back into the water. it's not illegal to catch one considering you can't really control what you catch all the time.

      @@rockscousteau Shut up, you wouldn't do a damn thing except say yes ma'am, yes sir, no ma'am and no sir. The reason there is an issue with this moron having this fish is because it's still on the protected species list. Once more research is done and it becomes abundantly clear that they're not as endangered as they once were then I'm sure a season will be opened where people will be able to start harvesting them. The fact is, not all people are assholes who don't care if a species is wiped completely off the face of the earth and some of us actually enjoy conservation and nothing more than the joy of catching certain species. Maybe think next time before you start talking like you're some Billy badass and use your fucking head for something other than a hat rack.

      Just the tiniest bit of education will inform you which species are endangered. It's incredible that conservation efforts are constantly eroded by the willful ignorance of some people.

      @@petelancaster6715 You must not be from florida, they may be considered "endangered" but they are absolutely everywhere and there are more of them now than I have ever seen in my life. I often have trouble keeping them away while fishing for snook. That being said, it is absolutely unbelievably ridiculous to arrest an 18 year old who simply brought one out of the water for a picture and released it afterwards. Sensitive people like you with no common sense are the reason the world is so screwed up.

      @@Aaron-qk2hj Actually, I AM from South Florida and have lived there my entire life. Are you a marine biologist? Have you tagged Goliath groupers or conducted studies to monitor their population? Probably not. Chances are that you're just an ignorant imbecile who simply likes to run his mouth. You strike me as the same kind of smug moron who also knows better than epidemiologists and doctors and have spread dangerous misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines because somehow you know more about it than world-renowned experts who have dedicated their entire lives to studying pandemics. On the contrary, YOU and YOUR ignorance are the reason this country and this world is screwed up.

    The fish and wildlife in Florida should be ashamed. One of the biggest shit holes areas on earth and they arrest a kid for fishing. And he even released it.

    • @alexfernandes7336
      @alexfernandes7336 Před 2 lety

      Goliath grouper are considered critically endangered which is a direct result of overfishing. You aren’t even supposed to take them out of the water. As much as arresting someone for doing that seems like overdoing it, it’s still the rule, and it’s the fishermen’s job to know the rules of where they’re fishing. Ignorance isn’t an excuse, it’s very avoidable

    If you love and respect marine life, do not harm them by fishing. Fish feel pain when their skin and flesh are pierced by hooks, and often die of barotrauma or suffocation if kept out of water for more than just 60 seconds.

      @@courtneyraefl So you think everyone in the world should stop the practice of fishing entirely because the fish “feel pain”? They’re fish for Christ sake, get a grip. Fishing is one of the best ways to truly see nature’s beauty and learn more about how the underwater life works. None of the fish I have caught and released have ever died and I’ve actually caught the same fish twice many times before and they’ve been completely healthy. I’ve spoken with quite a few marine biologists who catch fish for research purposes daily and you can actually keep most fish out of the water for well over 5 minutes without causing any harm whatsoever. A fish being outside of the water isn’t the equivalent to a human being underwater if that’s what you’re thinking. Fish have a very high tolerance to being outside of the water for several several minutes. I encourage you to go fishing and see what it’s really like, I can guarantee you it will change your mind.
