    I am renting and my landlord was avoiding fixing the door for years. Recently it was sagging so much, I was afraid it may end up on a hood of my car. Found out, that the middle bottom and above panels were cracked where the attach to the hinges right in the middle of the door. So used your method with the 8ft angles and also few pieces of metal to reinforce where it was cracked. Lubricated and works like new. Thanks!

  • @nuclearknight8543
    @nuclearknight8543 Před 5 měsíci

    You sir are very lucky. Mine is absolutely ripped to pieces. I have spent two years trying to fix mine. I use the same message that you used with the slotted angle iron but at my local Home Depot $59 a piece for an 8 foot section and I have a 16 foot wide door just like you, mine is buckled and ripped to pieces all the way down the center. If you open the garage door all the way it will buckled till it’s a foot from the garage floor itself and would easily cave-in and fall. It has cost me almost $1200 to buy every piece of angle iron that I need, I have two 8 foot sections of angle iron on the top and bottom side of each panel in the center then I have two 4 foot panels, top and bottom on both the left and the right side of each and every garage door panel. That’s what it took me to fix mine. In total, I had to buy eight 8’ angle iron sections and 15 4 foot sections then I had to reinforce the backside of everything. Still cheaper than paying an overhead door to come out and re-install a new one for $6000.

    thank you for this video. my garage door is 16 feet wide (2 car garage) and the torsion spring broke and the top panel bent and buckled. I replace the torsion spring with 26 quarter turns and the top panel bent more because the 16 foot cross thin support also bent. I went to Home Depot to look for this angle bracket in 16 feet long but could not find one. BTW, the 8 feet zinc plated angle bracket by Everbilt cost $60 in Washington, DC - October 31, 2022. Since I see this video I am going to buy the $60 8 ft angle bracket. I will place this at the very top of the top panel where the crack is. I called some garage door sellers in the area and recommend to replace the entire garage for thousands of $$$$.

I drilled out one end. Took out the top bolt of the far right panel hinge. Attach my one end of the half inch aluminum angle piece. Then lined it up with the two other hinge bolt heads marked both holes to be drilled with a felt tipped marker. Remove the aluminum angle piece and using a center punch mark my two other holes and drill them out. I replaced all three hinge bolts attaching the aluminum l bracket with thread lock.

    Great work Tim How are they holding up? Next time, buy a steel Brace/Aluminum fitting that goes across the entirety of the garage. I can tell when you opened it, it was putting a lot of max load on that area you braced. Eventually it will put some pressure on your springs and it may cause you to prematurely buy new springs earlier than you have too.
    Great explanation and detailed information. So many people on here don't give enough information on where to buy the supplies ect.

I marked the holes I need to drill out with the help of my wife and a center punch. Now my doors do not say whatsoever.
