What size bolt ( tapping ? ) 3:27 or screw should I put and how to avoid splitting the wooden door. Thanks for a great video.
For wooden doors they have small lags I’d say you should use about 3/4 inch long
Got question . could you tell me where to buy that slott steel angle or slott flat bar like you have in the video . My garage have the same problem and after I watched your youtube video . I need 16ft -192" long bar like you have in the video but could'nt find the store that have that long side bar . can you tell me the name of the store and where did you by that bar please . Thanks you so much .
The link is in the description, or you can call around local companies to see if someone will sell to you. Those are about the only options
Do you have to drill holes for the screws? What kind of screws would you use? Thanks for much for this video!
Self tapping screws, don’t require pre drilling. 👍🏼
Why would you need a pro for a two car garage? It’s the same process. There are other videos demonstrating that.
Until recently I wasn’t able to find a link for a 16ft piece. Most places only sell the bigger part to garage door guys ( at least where I’m from ) this is why I said you’d need a pro
But yes exact same procedure
Couldn’t you put two 8ft angle bar side by side for a 16ft 2 car garage? Possibly attach them both at the midway point of the garage?
You could but it’ll likely give way. ( may buy you a year or two )
Maybe 3 with one in the middle of the 2 to keep the middle from bending in.
I need to replace that vertical bar that is in the middle of the door - where the garage door opener attaches. The top holes busted and that piece fell off and it’s dented now. We know we need to reinforce the top but I’m not sure what that part is called? The middle part but the one on the top.
The center stile I believe ?
@@GarageDoorGuidancethank you! That’s it! I’ve been searching online but couldn’t find one that looked like yours. Most I found are facing the other direction. Mine looks like the one in the video
What size angle? 1” or 1.5”?
1.5x1.5
Would an 8 foot slotted angle be beneficial on a 9 foot door?
It would help but ideally you’d want something to go all the way across
@@GarageDoorGuidance Thanks for the response! Unfortunately the max they make them are 8 ft.
@@alexmyers5107 I am looking for a 9ft angled slotted also. Went to Lowes and Home Depot without luck.
What if that T bar is bending and my top panel is bending also it put a nice gapping hole/crack right at the top it's not noticable but what should I do 😢
Replace the support, with one that isn’t bent. You have a strut now?
Yeah a T strut from when we had the house built 3yrs ago
Just sent the picture
Thanks - most garage door companies won’t tell u this. They will try to tear your door out and charge u to replace the entire door if u have a tiny kink in the top panel. Ask me how I know. I didn’t go for it.
Most decent companies will still fix it for you, I do all the time. We all need all the help we can get these days 🙏🏻
Shawwwweeeee
brrrr brrrrrr
With all due respect, punch angle should not be used to apply to garage door panels. This is a very temporary fix until it begins to weaken the panel even more. This metal is not rigid enough to sustain this type of force. Punch angle has it's appropriate uses, but this is not what it is meant for. Save up your money and at least have a strut applied. Your garage door is opened several times a day.
I agree that it is not usually a permanent fix, however some of the thicker angle iron I’ve seen used for this repair can in fact be enough. Again a strut is the right way to go though
Yeah he mentions it's the more economic choice and says the other strut is recommended. Like with all things there's the right way and the way u do things when that's what u got. Great video
