2019 / 2020 Cadillac XT4 | Taking On The X1

- Cadillac's latest crossovers are all FWD based vehicles, that can be seen as an issue for the larger XT5 and XT6 as they go head-to-head with European RWD competitors, but the XT4 has no such natural competition. With everyone on equal footing the XT4 makes a compelling argument for going with the Cadillac over the Europeans thanks to generous legroom and a practical cargo area. The only major fly in the ointment? The price tag. The XT4 gets expensive if you get carried away with the options.

I bought this car ,very nice drive and good quality and less prices than other competitors like nx300 or gla
Congrats and these are discounted almost 7-8 K in US. The T 4 is one of the smoothest
And waaaaay cheaper to fix after the warranty.
Decent looking little guy. A good transmission in a GM car is welcome.
I just bought a leftover brand new xt4 sport for my wife with MSRP of 52.8k for 38.8k. Got all the bells and whistles except awd. I'm not sure how far the competition drops prices of leftovers, but it was a fantastic deal and my wife loves the car.
This is really great looking in my opinion. I think people like to complain about GM interior quality whether or not it’s warranted. My parents have a XT5, and the interior is really impressive.
Infotainment song always matches the car! 👍🏾
What a review!! good job
Alex! Great review as always but you forgot to cover the NFC feature for connecting your phone to the infotainment.
All around💫Great review 👍🙂
I have the 2022 XT4 sport it is all that they say it's got the best of all the cross overs available I have the all wheel drive version it's great in snow as and ice and handles great
I hope Acura brings out a new subbie to compete in this very hot segment. RDX is excellent but in the next size category up. I think a CDX(?) could do very well
I do like the styling of the XT4, rear included. Pros: exterior styling and interior room. Cons: interior styling and refinement, price. My choice is a toss up between the UX 250h for its fuel efficiency and cheap price, the XC40 for its refinement and overall packaging, or the e-Pace for its uncommonness and sexy styling.
Great Review and Good looking suv. I think Gm is heading n the right direction although it seems like what ever they produce gets a bad rap. Jus sayin. 😏
18:38 *A kamikaze leaf appears*
Nicest looking vehicle in its class.
TVD(torque vectoring differential) explanation difference aside, why does Acura SH-AWD have a slowest Motor Trend figure-8 time compared to other is the TVD is so great on the 2019 RDX?
QX50 - 26.4
XT4 - 27.0
Envision - 27.5
RDX 2.0T - 27.7
Good review Alex. Actually at the showrooms it is easy to get a 6-7 K discount without too much effort. That way it becomes very competitive and in the range of others. Cheaper than Germans after warranty runs out
I always LAUGH when I see “itty-Bitty” haha. Make sure you Subs. read the Media Screens of the Vehicles Alex reviews, as he always has something clever on the screen :))
I actually really like this Cadillac!
Alex is the Best Auto reviewer in my opinion. Great comments on the XT4. I would like to know though does the Sport model with active dampers still ride harsher than the Premium Luxury model as it has 20" tires. What Trim actually has the more Plush Ride.
They aren't far off one another. The Sport model with the active dampers is a little more plus than without, and the Prem Lux with the 20" wheels is a little harsher than the base tire/wheel combo.
For driving enthusiasts that don't require AWD, the 800 Lb Gorilla in the room is the 2019 MB GLC 300.
With a starting MSRP of $40,700 you can move up a class, getting more room, a gorgeous interior, more power and a real RWDer. Here in FL about 30% of inventory is RWD (non 4Matic). I got into a 2018 last spring with Burmester and pano sun-roof for just over $46K. For an SUV it's fun to drive, as I can induce rotation with my right foot! 😀
Rotation is great. I live in Naples part-time soon to be full-time, I'm from Syracuse, NY snow capital of the NE.. Even if I never left Florida, I'd buy a 4matic.. RWD is fun and all but it's also nice to not be limited in rain, sand etc. Just my opinion. I have the same stance with RWD pick-ups. How do you like the car? fuel economy has to be impressive..
@@JakeDrives1 Small world...as I also live in Naples and am originally from LI NY! Love my GLC, but 2 small complaints: the Run-Flats cause a bit of a jouncy ride; and, the UI on the infotainment system isn't very intuitive, but DOES support Android Auto.
GLC is not a step up. Bargain basement for those who can't afford a real Benz.
Alex to me the Volvo seems like the logical choice in this class. I was surprised you didn't mention reliability which right now appears to be very low. I love the way the front looks, but the rear seems a little busy.
Design is Unique & has all ingredients to stand apart
Alex, the cover photo of this video should be the blue model
I noticed in different XT4 reviews that some of the vehicles have a Caddy badge on the engine cover, and some DO NOT (most don't seem to have it). Was wondering if that's a trim-level thing?
Thank you for a great review Alex.
I sat in one of these in the Cadillac showroom a couple of weeks ago, and found the back seat to be too upright for my taste.
I believe it isn't adjustable.
Hi Alex, we love your reviews ... but this xt4 from say a stop light hit it and the engine sounds like a cheap 4, they need more power the 252 hp equinox premier ... Sounds 10 times better. Will they add more hp for 2020?
a GM interior that I Like...I agree two tome brown/black would look rad
Thanks for the great review. I have a 2016 X3 and was thinking of down sizing / down grading slightly when my lease is up in a few months and like the look of this XT4. However, this model with the options I want (and possibly more favorable lease terms TBD) it is right up there with an X3 !! Too bad... Like you said, about 5K less expensive would be more appropriate in my opinion as well.
Watch for the $6,000-7,000 discounting. There maybe be competitor lease cash for current leasees of another brand.
I’ve seen on the website it’s listed at 181.1 inches long.
Saw this at the Detroit auto Show and very much impressed.. not a bad entry in this segment at all!
Alex, Great review...you are right on with the price - about 5k to 6k too much. I tried to get info on the emergency braking specs and other safety features and how they work. I searched everywhere. Even the dealer with his technical contacts at Cadillac could not answer the question on how the maximum speed that it would engage, etc. They finally guessed no higher than 25MPH. I believe Audi's works at over 50mph. Can you help answer these questions? Also what was the actual highway mpg you were able to achieve? Thanks
Thanks for the review Alex. I take delivery of my new XT4 sport on Monday. Mine is as well equipped as the tester you had, out the door I got it for $52,485. Quite in line price wise with the heavy hitters in this class. Overall I came away very pleased with the overall package, moreso than the others I sampled in the entry luxury crossover class. I'm coming from a Nissan Murano which was a nice vehicle but a total lemon. Hopefully I get good service from the XT4.
I love my cady xt4
i would go with the bmw x2 in this segment, i do carry stuff but not often and its usally no much more then 6-7 feet in length,
I have the 2020 Prem Lux, with every available option and love this car. I also have a 450 SL and feel I have the best of both worlds! My only con, is the break is too high for a heel and toe pivot. Anyone have a fix for that?
I think there are some pads that u could put on the accelerator. They are meant to sports car I think. Or make ur own pads out of a non sliping shoes. I have a Srx and I know its tired after a long driving or traffic.
I like this car as my No.1 choice, then UX, and XC40. Can’t wait to see which one would depreciate faster so I can grab a CPO!
I would choose the Mazda CX 5 any day. If the badge is important, BMW makes more sense.
VN P you sound ignorant and dumb
Sure. Seems my opinion matters a lot to you. You sound dumbest
No true torque vectoring AWD and Mazda wont send more power to any single wheel like GM Twin Clutch.
Plus this is much more efficient than Mazda 2.5t as it is one of the worse vs most 2.0T.
Longer warraty with the Cadillac too...
Android Auto for the CX-5 2.5t?
Norm T agreed. But remember all of those you mention at almost double the price.
I recently drove cx5 in December for a 2.5K mile trip. Trust me I like it’s road manners better than so many premium and luxuries I drove.
Honestly I didn’t even test drive XT4 but I have experience with XT5, which is not a bad vehicle but doesn’t justify its price tag. I assume the same with XT4..
Alex, can you do a behind the scenes video of your reviews please?
xt4 vs corsair... which one do you pick?
This vs. the Buick Envision?
How does it get worse MPGs than the larger AWD Q5 and X3?
The eternal question for American vehicles. And it has cylinder deactivation...
I like this car but it's way too expensive. I'd rather have a Volvo xc40. It's cheaper and imo better.
It starts off okay, but once you start adding options for are now day to day things, the price quickly rises into XT5 area.
JTL2017 I like the Volvo too.
Cadillac priced themselves out that brought their own demise...
They alienated domestic buyers. But then, they can't even properly compete with Europeans at same price point.
The XT4 is $5,000 off MSRP at Central Cadillac in Cleveland.
Norm T yes, but you can get $5k off an XC40 as well.
Where is Supercruise!!! Cadillac is dripping the ball because not even BMW or Lexus has anything similar. Only Tesla
Wait for the discounts before signing
They will sell a ton of these
Plenty of them in my neighborhood, along with the Encores, and RDX.
God, I wish we had this car in France. I love Cadillacs !
be careful what you wish for
@@digitalkoh Or what comments you take seriously.
Where is Alex getting pricing info on the new Q3? As far as I know, Audi is yet to announce US pricing or configurations
Wait for XT4-V! 450 hp, 400 ft. lb. torque?
I would get a Lincoln MKC
The comments about the Q3 are misleading and a little all over the place, something very surprising from Alex. The affordable one with a 6-speed auto has been discontinued. The picture of the upcoming Q3 has been used and is the one with all the technology Audi can throw at it, will not have a 6-speed auto, is larger and will surely be quite a bit more expansive.
BMW X1 for me
You forgot to mention jaguar e pace as a competitor.
Alex great review but why won’t Cadillac used the CTS chassis or CT6 because those cars handle better Europeans c
Because they are greedy and think they can sell a more cheaply built, Chevy based model expensively. Their greed will doom them.
I don't understand this either. The ATS/CTS/CT6 could have been adapted to a crossover. The XT4/XT5/XT6 conversions were likely a little less expensive because CUVs had already been built off the basic building blocks, but I can't imagine it was really that different since the chassis is not *exactly* the same as the lesser cousins.
Alex also why don’t GM install super cruise on all there vehicles. It would be a big factor for me not leasing XT5. I leased last week Alfa Romeo Stelvio TI 2018. The dealer took $14k off mrsp. I am paying less than my other CUV 2018 Nissan Murano SL. GM still don’t get why there aren’t selling more vehicles. Safety features aren’t standard or available unless top trim and used this Supercruise would be game changer.
Alex,
The claimed 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds does not seem right. This car should get there between 6 and 7 seconds....
Motor Trend got 7.5s also. Maybe they are leaving room for the 3.0TT Vsport.
Why is the speedo needle not moving in the bottom left frame while Alex is driving? You can see terrain going by in the background, so the car is moving.
It did move. Problem is he stayed pretty much the same speed so it didn't seem that it didn't.
I have said this in others' reviews as well, interior quality feels artificially luxurious, interior is loud for a luxury suv, too expensive compared with more renowned luxury brands, overall, it's not worth it. In Toronto, it's more expensive than XT5, around loaded Evoke's price
Peter Calling the interior; “artificially luxurious “ “ I just don’t see that at all. Have you seen it in person? I have and most of the materials are really good. A friend of mine has a BMW X3 and the Cadillacs interior blows it away.
Are the safety features standard or is it only available top of line as option
Safety features just cover up you as a poor driver. Plus they shot off when there is rain or snow.
Once again you. I told you I live exit 120 on I-95. So if you want to meet and talk to see who is a real man. I would love it. Besides that Go Fcuk yourself.
No comparison to any Buick vehicles?
Not even on the same platform...
@@normt5463 the envision isnt?
That title is from old top gear!
@4:30 -- The gas mileage you site verbally does not match what is in the left-hand-pane.
I'm not sure what you mean? We clearly say and show 26 MPG for FWD combined, 24 AWD
Is that purple? ;)
I agree its overpriced. SUV shopping a couple weeks ago and liked the car - not the price. I may be leaning towards Lincoln as its a better value. Still shopping.
I wouldn’t call it overpriced because once you factor in maintenance the X4 will be cheaper then any German counterpart. You might spend more upfront but it will be a lot cheaper for parts for the X4 then the bmw and Mercedes and Audi
Keep in mind there is list price, and there is real world transaction price -- often two very different things. Many domestics have heavy incentives which bring real world prices paid significantly below MSRP.
Why do you always ignore Lincoln as a competitor? MKC/upcoming Corsair, Nautilus, and Navigator all are superior to the Cadillac.
Thats wat tf i said i take Lincoln over dis shit
In your opinion. Front en of the Lincolns very ugly in my opinion.
@@brettmiller7218 I wasn’t just talking looks. The Corsair, Aviator, Nautilus, and Navigator all have superior engine performance and top of the line interiors. Cadillac is nice but the XT4 is terribly underpowered and the XT6 is just a miss all around. I like the XT5 but the Nautilus needs a refresh anyway. Platform is a bit dated.
Another great review Alex. Like the XT4 except for the 4cyl, would like a V6 instead.
RDX then XC40 then the XT4.
Then Blazer V6 is for you!
If you want a V6 in a luxury crossover, you might need to go to the mid size category. Except if you can put up with an inline six engine and go for the X3/X4.
Try the Lincoln MKC really good and priced right!
Ted Ball FoMoCo products don't exist for me. I truly loathe them all!
Love the exterior styling. Especially in it's darker hues. But hard pass on the interior. Already looks dated imo
The back end reminded me of the new Honda CRV's.
While I get the desire for subcompact crossovers in European cities, in the US I can't see it as a big seller.
This is too big for europe, europeans don't want something bigger than XC40, X1, etc.
They sell like crazy.
They actually sell well in North America , Europe and Asia.
I think 7785 sold in 2018 in the US after release is a little too early to proclaim they sell like crazy. Let's wait till the end of 2019. For Cadillac's sake they better sell, but I have my doubts.
@@Mgoblagulkablong I guess the OP did not hear about Encore selling almost 100,000 United last year.
That would be way to much money fully loaded, I’d rather spend the money on the Lincoln MKC
Oh, look... A Cadillac Equinox!
Different platform...
Chris Thaillemer. Let me guess it is ok that Lexus vehicles are all based on Toyotas . Or Acuras on Hondas.
But remember, a Honda or a Toyota is a decent vehicle... A Chevy is not....
@@DS-wo8wr Yeah right. Everything but Honda or Toyota is not good. Keep drinking the koolaid that nothing else is worthy. Chevrolet was just ranked 4th in a JD Power survey. Granted Toyota was 1st but 4th place is not granted to a brand that is "Not good".
You’re right, GM was a great company...50 years ago they were the worlds largest automaker with 50% of the US market...Now they’re the 4th largest.... Behind Toyota, VW and Hyundai... with about 18% of the US market....
Didn’t they take billions in US and Canadian tax dollars to bail them out of bankruptcy only to close 2 US and 1 Canadian plant all while introducing the 2020 Blazer which is made in Mexico....
You’re right, Chevy is great!
A good engine option to this would be a either the 3.6 no v6, or 2.7t i4. Preferably the 2.7t, the low end torque will help it feel more sporty.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
ok so buick can build the envision without all that plastic crap on the front of it, but cadillac has to load up the front of the xt4 with it
I have to admit that as a GTI owner I just don't "get" this category, either the mainstream or premium segments. My GTI has better driving dynamics, performance, and greater practicality than any of the vehicles in the sub-compact crossover category. And if AWD is a priority, the Golf R has equally compelling advantages.
I don't typically proclaim that "Anyone who pays X dollars for this vehicle is crazy." I figure people have different priorities and different budgets and it's their business how they spend their money. In this case, though, the idea of dropping $50K+ on a sub-compact crossover is just beyond me.
VW is an unreliable POS that noone wants to buy used.
Why does this car remind me of Buicks & Chev's?? Does not have a Cad'y look.
I miss the old intro...
When will you test the new telluride?
0-60 7.5s? not competitive, at all. Why???????
Lennox Lewis as fast as a rav4 hybrid and the rav4 is more efficient. The rav4 prime will destroy this without question
What car if 20% less wouldn't be a good deal. GM screws the pooch again.
At $32K for discounted XT4 that is under cutting a loaded Honda CR-V.
I hate all the gray plastic on the lower part of the vehicle. It will be okay if it was not a luxury vehicle.
I would buy a Xt4,run on regular gaz, cost of maintenance is going to be lower,je préfère Cadillac Xt4!
Premium fuel is recommneded , but not required.
A few words that are overused throughout your videos, "segment" and "as well". It's not a big deal. Just add a few more words to your vocabulary and it will add even more quality to your great channel. Thank you for the video. +1 Your videos are always helpful.
The Volvo XC40 is the best in this segment. Combines good use of space, features, and a proper price.
For about $45k, you get the best in its class as far as value.
One second faster, and well-equipped stays under $50k
But then Cadillac is advertising $6,000-7,000 off MSRP so there goes your case for Volvo value.
Norm T - absolutely- just picked up a 54K fully loaded to gills for 400 per month lease and 2.5k down ... Volvo could not match it, and I have a XC90 already
The CUE infotainment system makes the Cadillac Cimarrron look fast. BMW quality has been on the rise too.
I'll never understand why GM and Ford fail to offer significant drive-train options in many of their vehicles. This SUV could easily handle the twin turbo V6 in the ATS V Sport.
God jesus no it could not. More boost or a 2.5t. Mayyyybe a detuned 3.0tt.

The Cadillac long term reliability is questionable, I've dealt with 4 customers who had around 3yr old ones and got annoyed with the demonically possessed electronics. Each Cadillac took me hours to figure out the issues of them using Autel obd diagnostic tool.
hudali311 if you want reliable get a Lexus nx or better yet a rav4 hybrid
That output is a bit low for 2019
I'm a fair sized guy 6'1" 235, and I found this car way too small inside. I was very disappointed and surprised that this car would be so small.
Why everything you state about the Lexus IS negative, but yet, ppl will buy the UX 5x more than the Cadillac?
With the exception of its fuel economy, I am not a fan of the UX but it will surely be much more reliable than this Cadillac.
The UX is a different category, the NX is the direct competitor to this. Anyways, people buy Lexus because of much better reliability, durabilty, resale value and extremely efficient hybrid drivetrains.
@@Mgoblagulkablong The NX is the direct competitor to the XT5. This is both from Cadillac and Lexus' perspective. The UX is a "sub compact" and the NX is a "Compact". The NX is the Lexus competitor to the X3, XC60, XT5, etc. The UX is 4" shorter than the XT4, but notably longer than the X1. Although the XT4 is large for the segment, it's still targeted at X1, XC40, etc
Brand. How does apple sell so many damn iPhones with the worst quality of any phone on the market
James Mastroianni because I see you and facts just don’t get along.
Alex, your intro music could be better
Cadillac and Lincoln nutz with too high prices. I know I can get big discount but they get trashed in comparisons. They are not BMW MB Audi equals
Darren what do you mean too high prices? The technology in these vehicles isn’t cheap. It’s a vehicle. The fact that you have to say it’s too pricey means you’re talking about the wrong vehicles. Go critique Honda and toyota
@@Playb0ymari what technology? LED lights and chrome? 🤣🤣🤣
amari w. he has a good point. The tech is the same as you get in a Chevy Trax. The only differences are the styling and interior creature comforts, which you give up in the lower, more affordable trims. A fully loaded GMC Terrain Denali, AWD, 2.0 is more car, same tech and less money. A Rav4 has more tech innovation than this XT4.
@@afcgeo882 the Trax uses iron block and port injected. Also a less sophisticated AWD system. Please update your poor memory.
Cadillac and Lincoln will have better discounting and probably best deals in the segment.
Price is way too much. Crazy high for this. Needs to be at least $10k lower. XC40 has more power and a better interior for less. Not a fan of the Otterbox enclosed iPad looking display. This would be a quality Buick offering but not a Cadillac nor for the price they are asking. Pretty slow and no SuperCruise is lame. Also everything is faster than the Lexus UX. Thats not a compliment. Cadillac took the luxury of being last to this segment and they brought a very meh product. Very typical of Cadillac lately.
Cadillac is making strides in the right direction with its surplus of SUV's. But they should have learned from previous years, that a gussied up Chevrolet isn't what its customers want. Look at Ford, they learned the hard way as well and are now finally establishing themselves over again. Cadillac needs to sort out their reliability issue as well.
Where are they making strides? Middle of class in everything, 3 years late, and the highest price in segment. Yeah they are killing it..............
cntcht - this is a brand new platform and Cadillac in right direction with this
It’s too short I’ll get a rav4 instead or X1
People complained about Cadillacs naming.. yet I never hear any complaints about others. I started to zone out at the beginning with the comparisons as I couldn't keep up with all the names. 🤦🏻♂️
You must zone out on Audi and other German naming conventions too....lame
Has terrible reliability issues
The Mini Countryman is 170” while the Rover Evoque is 172.1” and the XT4 is 181.1”…so the Mini is not teenie weenie, plus they’re made by BMW and can come with 300+ HP.
Cadillac makes some amazing looking cars, but their SUV’s, save for the escalade, are hideous. Wish they’d just make a shunken down midsize escalade. Everything else looks SO suburban soccer mom chic. The middle aged wire woman with the Karen haircut…that sums up their SUV’s.
XC40.
