  • In this video I show how to remove and install valves on a small block chevy head. I use a valve spring compressor. These heads are factory 305 sbc heads with stock springs. I was taken the valves out to check the valve guides. Just getting stuff ready for my 305 small block chevy build.

Crazy that I was just looking for a video about a week ago on how to do this. My c10 is blowing quite a bit of blue smoke when I start it. Gonna be replacing the valve stem seals soon. Thanks for the video, keep up the good work!

Thanks for watching and commenting. but check this out. from my experience make sure you valves are not loose and move around in the guide. If you have bad valve guides new seals will not fix the problem. Once upon a time I was about 16 and broke. Ok so my dad and I put together a cheap engine for my truck. the valves wiggled about an 1/8" back and forth. my dad said "thats not good but it will be ok" later on, I got a letter in the mail from the city or something saying that my truck was on the I45 blowing out droplets of oil on peoples windshield , lol . and that i needed to fix the problem. the inside of the tail pipes was wet with oil. but the truck ran good and I had new valve seals in it. the moral of the story is that the valve guides need to be good too.

@@davidcraft4909 thanks for the tip. If they do wiggle and the guides are bad, can the guides be replaced? Or at that point would I need to replace the heads? Been looking at some top end kits that include heads. Wondering if maybe I should just go with that instead.

yes the valve guides can be replaced. a machine shop will take your head and bore a hole out that is bigger and put a sleeve in it for the valve guide. this is a very standard common thing. In other words people do it all the time and that is how its done.

@@davidcraft4909 thanks, I'm gonna be ripping into my c10 soon. Might need to hit you up again in the future with a question or two if you don't mind.

@@MotorheadATX I don't mind at all, I have 72 c10 that I'm work on. but yeah I will be posting a lot of videos on sbc in the future. I want to turbo charge a small block but I'm new to it so yeah, lol. but i do have a lot of experience with stock normal small blocks and I have ran them for years as a daily driver with carbs and all that.
