Shaq not being in shape is what made him not be like he used to be and Kobe tried to tell him that
Shaq won 3 finals mvps not being in shape. I’d take that any day while not being in shape. Y’all idolize Kobe too much, they won 3 together, yes shaq wasn’t as in shape as Kobe but there are zero people in this comment section who have mamba mentality at work.
@Racoons4Change kobe probably never wins a title unless hes shaqs teammate. If he goes to charlotte he's a what if guy. And shaq was in shape in miami considering his age and size. Would have won 2 there if not for the game 6 injury vs the pacers too.
@@Racoons4Changehe should have stuck with it in the long run Mabye but that was prime Shaq though declines always gonna happen
@@Racoons4Change😂Lmao
@MasterResolve Shaq doesn't win without Kobe. Kobe showed he could win without Shaq... TWICE.
Safe to say Payton was the only dude that could say that to shaq
Alonzo Mourning could
@@hoodywalker7173Zo could say it, but I’m willing to bet it wouldn’t have been received the same way it was from GP
Yep
I don't think you understood what GP said.
The Heat needed a go to guy. Shaq didn't want to be the go to guy. GP wasn't the same player anymore, and couldn't be that guy. So they held a team meeting and designated Wade the go to guy.
@@LynxStarAutoI don’t think you understood what this guy was saying in his comment
That totally contradicts Shaq’s story that he told DWade it was his team from day one. Interesting. Shaq be 🧢
Came here to say this
This happened beforehand since GP was already on the team than after shaq told dwade and said this ks your team
@@vegitoml316 Exactly my point. Shaq supposedly told Wade it was his team from day one when he joined the Heat in the 04-05 season. Gary Payton didn’t join the Heat until the following season when they won it all.
True Shaq is full of 🧢
Both can be true. Im sure Shaq intended to give him the keys, but Shaq is Shaq, so he needed someone else to really make him see that he needed to step back for real.
Shaqs ego was going to ruin yet another situation. Thank God GP intervened
He only left LA because they didn't want to give him the money he was asking for, it had nothing to do with Kobe
@@yaserkhalid4867yep Shaq has admitted it was money.
Money and beef with kobe a little@@paulz4667
Gary has off the charts basketball IQ, it's a shame he only won that one ring, he should have won a couple more in his prime..
Jordan kept many legends from getting rings, 🐐
Gary might be the most underrated PG ever though, strait killer on the court.
Two letters
Def in Seattle
One is better none 🤷🏽♂️ so chill!! A Let of guys were great as GP and sadly to say even though he only got one champion ring. But all of the great players didn't even make it to the "championship 🏆" so still he made it there an got it 😎👌🏽💯
@@rohanhudson9705 I wish Barkley got at least one ring. He deserved it.
Happy for Gary Payton. One of my favorite player of a good era
One of mine as well.
The Heat 2005 run was the last of that dominant Shaq he slowed down in 2006
Gary Payton hit one of the biggest shots in finals history but it is mostly forgotten but if he doesn't hit that shot to win gm 4, the heat don't win that series. He earned his ring 💯
His only bucket of the game and he didn't talk shit like he used too. The biggest shot of his career. I think he humbled himself with that shot
Couldn't have that talk with him in LA
He was still putting up mvp numbers by the time he was ran out of LA by the rapist kobe
Right smh
I FORGOT THEY WAS BOTH IN LA WITH MALONE. mannn "what if"
Kobe and D Wade are 2 different players D Wade recieved the torch Kobe forcefully took it and was pissed off at Shaq for being Shaq wanted Shaq to be like him
@@defcon740 Big Diesel himself said he would have gone back and changed how he handled that situation with KB…It was Kobe time and everyone knew that. His first Head coach sat him on the behind first three years holding him back. Can’t blame him for taking over. Shoot he gave us two more ships
Shaq needed Gary Payton 4 years earlier in LA. To talk Shaq off the Kobe beef. Because Shaq was tripping
wade forever my favourite player...in his prime, he truly was the flash lol...generational athleticism
I wonder what the real story is with that heat team cause i feel theres so many different stories that kind of contradict eachother and the way they talk about wade is like he was some unproven talent who was averaging like 12 points and then when they gave him the reigns is when he became d wade, wade was already averaging like 27-7-6 on 48%-50% shooting a night and would be even better in the playoffs like to me it seems that all of then just had big egos and couldnt accept that wade was the best player on the team.
Shaqs ego is bigger than him
Not really given he made the adjustment and won a chip. Internal team debates are normal. Action and the end result is what shows real character.
@@CanditoTrainingHQ nope
@@cortlandsimmons6241Nobody’s is bigger than LeBron James’s though! Yikes!
@@cortlandsimmons6241Yep! Moron!
Forgot GP was on the team 😅
The same😂
Wasn’t he the starting PG or was that white chocolate?
@@lundoren5240 Jason was the starter, but GP was the one on the floor during crucial minutes
@@jukztv76 is like Gabe and Lowry
@@felipe31718 exactly. Veteran presence is important during crucial moments, the main ballhandlers aren't on the floor because Wade or Jimmy will have the ball in their hands in those situations
Let Shaq tell it He had this talk with Wade
Thank you I was thinking the same thing .
Two things can be true at one time 😂
Refs were the go-to guys against Dallas.
97 free throws for Wade in 6 games. 45 in the last 2 games alone 😅
Good to see someone else with a brain.
underrated story. a great vet goes a long way in development
Gp is funny as shit 😭😭😭 why do he dwade and Shaq all have different stories where they all taking credit especially Shaq 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Well first of all it was dwade who averaged near 40 and and got the finals MVP, what ever shaq said was just shaq being shaq🤣. You know you not supposed to take everything thing thesse guys say seriously. It goes even deeper than shaq. A lot of narratives are just to make money.
@@solsoul6669 oh
Three different people
True story probably coming from Pat Rileys perspective
When grown men can talk it out instead of being a loud crybaby over words
Young Flash was amazing.
Could of did that with Kobe but shaq too busy hating! Gary didn't want to repeat that
That’s veteran leadership.
I'm happy with the decision that the Lakers did in the case of Shaq and Kobe..
Wish I could see Shaq's face when someone told him "Your time is over" 🤣
He needs to coach
He said in an interview if Seattle gets a team again he’ll try for head coach
Is he even from Seattle
@920mario doesn't matter. Most athletes that go to Seattle end up attached to the city. All the Seahawks, all the former Sonics, alot of baseball and soccer players. Hell, KD still talks about Seattle
@@920mariothat's the team that he was with the longest
It's amazing what a little humility can do when working with others......
Shaq’s prime could have been longer if he was in shape 🤷🏽♂️
And didn't let his ego get bigger then he was
Dude his prime was close to a decade, he still would've regressed at the same point he did in real life
"And looks what happened, 700 free throws in the Finals later, and we beat Dallas."
Had no business beating Dallas. The ugliest finals in history. Wade shot more free throws in 6 games than anybody else in Nba history, even with 1 less game than most of his counterparts. Just a gross finals. Man shot 25 free throws in Game 5. Twenty freaking Five. The entire Dallas team that game shot 25. Not a fan of either team, but that was disgusting to watch. Nobody shoots 25 free throws in a game. He shot 97 free throws in 6 games lmao. 97. Averaged over 18 attempts per game. Tf is that? Fans dont want to see that shit
That Miami team had 10+ 1st round picks on that roster.. whaddya mean.. eleven or twelve think about it
They couldnt contain Wade. One man literally took Dallas down it was an insane finals for that reason. It was on tv everybody saw it. Wade took it up to a previously unseen Jordan-type level and there was nothing Dallas could do about it.
Wade was killing Dallas. They couldn't stop him..they had no choice but to keep fouling him.
Who would’ve knew that same logic would’ve helped Miami win in 2011. Lebron didn’t want to overshadow Wade on his team. Lebron would accelerate but keep tapping on the brake worrying about it not being “his team”. When Wade took a backseat and told Bron to play how he did in Cleveland, it was over with.
Nah bron was just so bad that wade had to enable him to be himself. Not cus leBron didn’t wanna overshadow him. Cus he played well the series before.
He didn't play like in Cleveland, Spoelstra forced him to operate in the post which he hated
Only reason Wade took a backseat was because Wade had injury issues. Otherwise they could win with either one being the main guy
Wade had a Jordanesque performance in the 2006 NBA Finals
Wades performances during that championship run was amazing.
This is awesome...definitely
They made Wade better.
This some Real shit lol 😂
Shaq was still a beast though during his years in Miami. Dwade deserves the mvp, he was unstoppable, prime dwade was that good
Y’all didn’t beat Dallas - the refs gave it to you
He was right ! After that Detroit series wade was the dude didn’t take much to figure that out
I believe GP, still miss him and Kemp 😢
and just like that heat culture was born.
You can’t believe anything these days. Lol. They couldn’t have that realization before with KOBE BRYANT? yeah right
Well said Garry Payton. Respect to you!
For reference Gary Peyton is 6'4 😅
Self awareness and assessment is crucial in life knowing when your not the man anymore is just as important as being grounded when you are and reckonizing the next and prepping them to take the reins 💪🏽
They beat Dallas with Shaq and lost to Dallas with LeBron 😊
MJ 🐐 🙏🏾
They dared D wade to beat them a second time and he couldn't
@@blackjesus6433That mavs team better than almost every team jordan has faced in the finals... Yet that Mavs team is one of the worst teams Lebron has faced in the finals
Jordan’s average playoff victim went 52-30 in the regular season with a net rating of +4.06. LeBron’s, on the other hand, went just 49-33 with a net rating of +2.82. That’s the difference between the 1992 Knicks, one of two teams to extend Chicago to seven games during Jordan’s title runs, 1 and the 2017 Celtics, who fell meekly to LeBron’s Cavs in five despite possessing home-court advantage.
This doesn’t mean that MJ’s opponents would beat LeBron’s if they were to play head-to-head. But it does show that Jordan’s victims were generally better in the specific season they faced the Bulls.
So why does MJ come out on top? There are two obvious reasons. One is that Jordan’s teams were much better than LeBron’s. Jordan’s Bulls averaged more than 58 wins a season with a net rating of +7.29, while James’s average club won 55 games. Jordan’s Bulls were also the Vegas betting favorite in 91 percent of their series beginning in 1988, the first year those odds are available, 2 compared with just 76 percent for LeBron’s. You’ll never believe this, but better teams tend to win more in the playoffs than worse teams.
@@yunggpacino I also agree that Jordan had a great team around him Which was the best team in the league with the best coach...
Whatever wins.
Glad Payton and Alonzo mourning got to finish their careers with a ring Mourning deserved his ring even if he was a role player on that Heat team
This sounds like it’s obvious. But most people can’t admit it. Props to GP for seeing that, and for being one of the only ones that could tell Shaq that too. We ALL get old
This is what made Gary Payton humble. D. Wade should have done that when Lebron first came to Miami. They probably would have beaten Dallas for the 2nd time.
Every HOF player had their prime. Most HOF players thought they were still in their prime at some point in their career
I've always liked Big Shaq ever since he signed on with LSU. Then once he got drafted into the NBA, he was immediately a force to be reckoned with. Then he got traded to my team... The Los Angeles Lakers. I got to see a lot of the big fella while he was playing here in Los Angeles cause I was an usher at The Forum at the time. But man did I hate that he played that year in Boston! C'mon Big Shaq! You know the code!
Vlad interviews are bad ass
Wish Glove would’ve told Shaq this in LA
Real men unite👍🏽
Shaq ruined alot of his teams and I truly believe Shaq could have won a ring anywhere in his formidable years that's how good he was but his ego was way bigger and held him back
Every team shaq has been on he' either put them on the map or made them relevant again
Yea tf you mean he ruined teams? He was older by the time he left the lakers then he was on other teams while aging and out of his prime he didn't even ruin the lakers if thats what you mean
@@daachiobidimoriaku u can't read he messed up the magic then thy played it as they didn't wanna pay him Shaq was immature his whole career and should be in the goat convo period. Him being lazy n immature kept him from winning more rings in his prime
Whats the name of that song playing??
Shaq was never selfish
The three biggest story tellers of our time: Cap O'Neal, Cap Joe and Cap Dogg!
GP ju$t Real 1 Dat'$ it Dat'$ all💐💯🙏
Humble yourself
Alonzo on defense was a big part as well, people seem to forget about Zo in that series...
I enjoyed that series between the mavs and the heat but for the life of me I can't remember Payton playing any significant role .
that's how lebum and Chris Bosh won their first title 😂😂😂😂😂
Great leaders know when it's time to step aside to allow a new young leader the space to ascend.
GARY WAS LIKE F UR PRIDE, U PROMISED ME A RING IN L.A. NOW U GONNA GET ME ONE!!!!
The Glove is The Man!!!
Gp was smoking some crack fr shaq was only 33 in 06 it's still a prime years the real reason shaq was declining real quick is because of wade and not taking care of he's body seriously it's shaqs fault not his age
Yea this is cap shaq averaged 20 Gary average 7 they wasn’t the same
@@gmailgmail6234 you they are the old heads they assume anybody will believe on the myth
That’s towards the end of his prime (25-31). Shaq aged once his bigass toe started giving him problems in L.A. shaq also didn’t stay in consistent shape and it was obvious!
That ego was loaded up with diesel fuel 😂
They need more players like him. But, it appears that Dewayne Wade took on that role later on when - LeBron James came to Miami; and let LeBron know that he would be that guy.
THE O.G. BEAST of the NBA CUZ
If shaq had stayed in shape, like he was when he first came in, he would probably be much much closer to jordan in that debate, wouldve been even more of a beast tsking it coast to coast in that era
Victoria was beginning to get close to Neil at the time he was a good friend to her at this point hopefully they don’t mess it
up
Thank goodness he didn’t call it the gambling refs team
Shaq tells this story differently
A real man
Gary Payton tries to avoid a repeat on what happened in the 2004 nba finals when they got their butts handed to them by the Pistons 4-1 (should’ve been 4-0 thanks to the Kobe Bryant game tying 3pt in game 2).
Shaq is absolutely delusional about his time with the Heat. He was averaging like 22 and 10. Dude was hardly the force he was with the Lakers.
Determination Wade.
This is what dwade forgot when bron came
Gary was getting on Wade nerves. That heated exchange against Detroit turned Wade into a monster. He pushed him to another level....Wade singlehandedly beat Dallas that 1 game...that shit was amazing
Crazy how half of the superlakers went to Miami and won a title they couldn't get in la 2 years prior.
Shaq tried to say something different
Im glad he got it but when the Sonics left I stopped caring. I saw almost all of his games as a supersonic and none after that lol. kinda sad actually.
Only if Shaq had headed that advice when he played with Koby he would have at least 3 more rings.
Both of them could’ve done it at the Lakers for Kobe. I guess those two learned from their mistakes.
d wade had faster progression than michael jordan and kobe bryant
The refs gave them the chip ... check out the free-throws total wade had more then the entire mavs team
Shaq had a problem with every co star he had in his prime.
That’s why every lockdown needs a vet
Shaq should've been MVP
It hurt hearing him say our time is over, cause shaq probably like I just got traded to a team that needs me and on my other team I won 3 finals in a row with mvps of those series, so I can see why Shaq was alittle egotistical about it.
Told Shaq just do the little things to help us win we don't need 30 pts from u
Maybe they implode internally without GP on the team
And casuals will still say that Kobe was carried by shaq to years prior.
Really Glove?!?! You called the team only meeting AFTER Stan got fired?
Fact: Shaq's ego gave Pat Riley and the team too much headache. If Shaq don't have that ego he could've have greatest player in and off the court.
Says the guy that got all up in wades face
Team meeting probably included the refs🤣🤣🤣
Ego is a mutha
Shaq’s ego would’ve tore up that heat team, glad a OG like Gary was there that he respects to let him know it’s time to take a backseat
