dodge ram owners watching this to align their headlights to driver's eye level
😆😆
Lmao exactly
also that's crazy chris hearted your comment on an 8yo video
And of course those trucks and cars that have what I call "cow catcher" lights (put on the car body on the part in the front that looks like a cow-catcher). The left one is almost ALWAYS aimed into the eyes/windshield of oncoming traffic. I have personally cited four or five of these morons for improper equipment.
me but in my f150
Yes I am 🤣🤣
before adjustments, It would seem a good idea to inflate all 4 tires to correct air pressure, too
+Garacha222 great tip!
😂😭😭😭
+Kanchan Talwar the varun
And have an alignment with the whole "don't touch your steering wheel" thing. Lol.
I took the bed off my truck and brought it to the mechanics for welding repair. And had him adjust my headlights while the truck was there. Well the bed was at my house and he adjusted the lights without the bed. Today driving I'm like, wow I'm lighting up the top of those pine trees, and blinding everyone down the road.
"chrisfix here, I'm gonna show you how easy it is to rebuild a transmission with only households tools"
"Hey Chrisfix again, Today I want to show you how to replace the timing belt on any car in under 10 minutes. Today I'll be using just a screw driver, some blue tape and a slinky!"
Heheh now he do that with a fking bread!!
And some woody water
And a toothpick
Alright, this car has been in a slight accident so we’ll make a turbo from Lego and a piston from a Pepsi can
Am a mechanic and was nice to hear and see different ways to do things and pick up some additional tips to raise my game. Very good video sir. I never turn down a chance to learn and pick up extra tips to aid in more of a smooth repair. Honing skills.
Sounds like you're a good mechanic. I'm in a different repair industry but being open to new techniques and never being stuck in your way is always a good trait.
I am**
Nice, that's a way of thinking that I'm actively practicing too, realizing everyday that there's other method, and it's good to have many ideas that can be useful to me in the future.
I recall having combined different ideas from even unrelated skills, it sure feels rewarding, and I am grateful to many people who are willing to share their thinking process.
I thought the purpose of fog lights was to be aimed directly at the face of oncoming traffic. At least that's what people do nowadays. Really good job on this video, 8 years later and I still refer back to it whenever I need to adjust because it's one of the easiest to follow. And I absolutely love the results
Chris: Hey its ChrisFix here and today blabla
Random dude watching him in the middle of the night at some mall parking lot: wtf is this guy doing
First thing I said to my wife...hope he's carrying!
Back in the day I asked a mechanic why they had thick lines painted on their wall, it was for this very reason. They adjusted a lot of headlights. I use this method on my garage door. Good video. It's one of those many things most people never think about, but should.
I’m a travel nurse. I’ve had to learn to be resourceful and self reliant on my own. Coming across your video was a god send! I’ll be fixing my headlights tonight!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Soo....the wife says to me yesterday, "Who do I take my headlights too, to get adjusted!?"
Me..."I'll take care of Mrs"
Niiicccceeeee timing Chris!!...lol
I'll bet about 60% of the peoples head lights are out of adjustment.
+Glen Harper Probably. I know I always see misaligned headlights!!
+Glen Harper I agree. Chris notes how his lights don't flood into another car's mirrors or cockpit-which is very courteous and correct, kudos to him!-but it seems like every car I encounter on the road has their beams right in my face or bouncing into my face from my side mirrors! It gets so bad that I actually brake and pullover because I can't see to keep moving! Also, people seem to tail gate a lot more than they used to, and combined with misadjusted headlights blinding me fore and aft, it can be a white-knuckle experience just getting home from work. It's not just rude, it's dangerous!
+Glen Harper only 60?
+Glen Harper I'll bet your correct.... but closer to 80% lol
I just had my mechanic mess this job up twice in a row and get frustrated with me. I guess it must just be a lost art. I can't see anything on the road at night anymore bc of other people's maligned lights.
My tip is to just lay a two by four, 25 feet (plus the distance from grill to front of tire) away from the wall, and measured to be perpendicular. Then simply roll your vehicle up to the 2x4. You'll be able to tell if you're parallel if both tires approach the board equally.
I used this system to adjust my new headlights on a Toyota
Tacoma, it is easy to follow his instructions and is flawless; did a great job
in just a few minutes, spent more time measuring and setting up than it took to
adjust a perfect set of headlamps. Thanks for your fantastic how to video.
You dont have to be perfectly square just back up 25ft from a wall and set em up.
i’ve been driving around in my VW with my lights pointed all the way down i couldn’t see anything at night but thanks to chris fix i just adjusted them and my lights are amazing
Most people: gets lift kit and bigger tires
Also most people : refuse to adjust headlights
Chris,
Thanks so much for shooting this video.
I followed your instructions and successfully adjusted my 1991 Nissan Pathfinder headlights. You really saved me some money. Here in Southern California, one garage wanted $35.00 and another garage told me $50.00 to adjust them. Pretty pricey for what's involved.
Thanks again, Tom
+THOMMGB That is awesome! I am glad the video was helpful. Besides saving money, now when you drive at night, you are going to feel so proud you aligned your own headlights! Nice work!
Chris i hope you're too busy livin life to see this but this absolutely the best general headlight adjustment video on CZcams and i've used it several times and i can't thank you enough for what you do for car owners around the world👍🏻 God bless
"You dont want to blind other people."
i bet you 50 quantrillion dollars that ive been blinded by every single SUV and a truck EVERE EVRE EVER made
There's no quantrillion. It's either quadrillion or quintillion.
@@mormegil2 This is all the more important if you're one of those "quantrillion" people driving an SUV or truck. Don't be one of the bad ones. ;)
Actually my left one blinds truckers and the right one blinds mice.
Quantrillion is my rap name.
I'll bet you those 50 quantrillion dollars it's because they sit higher then the average car. Just a few inches makes a world of difference.
Worked great! My new lights are now focused on the road and with the new bulbs and reflectors, even the ditch and the tree line are more visible. Thanks ChrisFix!
Thanks for another essential video. We actually got our 1977 VW van headlights to quit looking for owls in the trees alongside the road! Being level and measuring the right distance is so important.
One thing to note is that outboard side headlight is actually meant to be slightly higher and/or focused to the outside of the road. It is meant to light up the side of the road without blinding people. The inboard side light is meant to light up both sides of the road without blinding people.
Only caveat, you don't have old style headlights, some cars are completely level from factory, when using LED or HID.
My headlights automatically adjust but I’m still laying here at 2am watching this
Thank you for taking the time to do this. I've been looking for a straight-forward and detailed explanation for over an hour now. Liked and subbed!
+MrLiquidArrogance Thanks and welcome aboard! Glad you liked the video!
is it just me or does it seem their factory setting this super hd lights right for your eye balls
Thanks again Chris! I always look at your videos when a topic comes up for me! I just put new "eye balls" in my ride and will use your vid to align them. Once again your delivery & explanation is on point! Good work!
brilliant guide! I've just used this to Alligin my HIDs! thanks!!
Not surprisingly, every New Yorker that came upon this video skipped it.
false lol. i just ordered whole new headlights with projectors just so i can use hid's cause the idiots that drive around here with regular reflector housings and hid bulbs blind people. especially the lifted pavement princess jeeps and trucks
dizkoteck nope im a new yorker and this is the best video i have seen so far. Now to find a wall
@@FindFlexOG lifted pavement princess jeeps and trucks is my new favorite name for street OFF-ROAD vehicles
dizkoteck as did everyone with a Ford F series pickup made in the last three years. I love ford trucks, I own one, but the new headlights should be illegal.
I'm fitting a whole new set of projector headlights and fog lights on my Tundra for better light displacement, some added style and that wonderful crisp cutoff line. Thanks for the adjustment tips for the Fog lights as it had been a hot minute since I adjusted them
did this method on my 2010 accord and it is spot on perfect! thank you Chris, i been trying to get them right for quite some time now.
Awesome! Glad the video was helpful!
Great video. I think that there might be a mistake aligning at that height. There is a cut off horizontal line on low beams, that's the one you need to use. Right hand driving lights make some kind of low beam pattern like "__/". The aiming should be in the "__" (horizontal) part of the pattern rather than the "/" part.
Cool, thank you for this Chris. It looks like the set up in your truck allows you to have many different settings. I have done this in my car several times, and although with practice it gets easy, I wish sometimes this could be done from the cabin too lol
***** The headlight is pretty easy to adjust if you have a way to turn those 4mm screws lol. They are the worst. It would be neat if they could make self leveling headlights!
Very great job! Something I learned decades ago. Adjusting your headlights correctly is really helpful too not only you as a driver but oncoming traffic. You couldn't had made it easier. Correct Tire Psi, full or half tank of fuel, and what you carry on daily basis in your vehicle. I could go on and on. But the basics of what was shown here is as easy as it gets. Just wish every other driver out there would take the time too do this very simple process. Good job! And thank you for making this video. I hope it helped others.
Just installed new housings (age fogged up) time to adjust. Thank you for this video. Professional and informative. We'll done.
Good job Chris! Got my new lights on my F-250 perfectly aimed using your nicely done video! Thank you!
+MrBREEDENK awesome! I'm glad the video was helpful!
***** haha, I live in an area that is pretty safe so it was not something I was worried about. The drivers side lens was melted with a heat gun (I explained it at the end of this video): How to Separate Headlight or Fog Light Lenses (without Oven, EASY)
Chris.... I read your Jeep water pump and saw the video...my 2004 grand cherokee

My headlight's left and right adjusters don't work now its all pointed to the left it just slips
Every car has a headlight adjuster switch on the dash. Mine is numbered 0 to 5. 0 being highest and 5 being lowest. Where would you recommend it to be before starting the process in the video.
+NK28 you sound so sure that "every" vehicle has this option
Your videos are a gift from god!!! Literally the most useful videos on youtube!!! Thank you Chris!!!
So I started watching recent Chrisfix videos... and noticed Chris uses Chrisfix plates now instead of a paper... I’m glad your channel is doing great. Your videos as as profesional as easy to follow and learn.
I'm subscribed because I really appreciate the unvarnished information you present.
My elderly friend has a 2004 Crown Vic, which is known by LEOs and other owners as having some of the worst forward lighting ever put on a car. I used this video to make it the best it can be under normal circumstances and may need to make 1 or 2 very small adjustments in the future. Even with my fairly normal vision these lights are poor at best.
I've seen your police Crown Vic videos and wonder if you have any tricks or tips that you can share, and maybe if you have enough to warrant a video of their own. I'd really appreciate it, and I know for sure my friend would.
Thank you for your efforts. It takes a special person to do this on a regular schedule!
Hot Flash, you can try a "low budget" approach that has worked for me. Step 1: polish the headlamps. Yours could be faded and oxidized. I use Mother's headlight polish with a rag. 5 minutes and you're done. Step 2: get some Sylvania extravision halogen light bulbs. These can be had for about $20 at your local Walmart. These helped out some. After the two steps, I can see very well now with just the factory halogen setup.
I changed my head lights a year ago..I was so proud of myself..however one day my left head light fell out.😡 but I found it the next day on the. Road. Good information thanks🤗

This just happened to me, I was tryna adjust my headlights but someone called the cops. Probably a white woman that "gets involved."

Excellent, as always. Very clear.
Many thanks Mr. Fix
You just saved me a lot of time and effort. I got new headlight assemblies for my f150 and I thought you had to take out the headlight, make your adjustment by hand and put the headlight back in and see if it got better or worse
Thanks for the great video Chris. I recently bought an old car from the 80s and initially assumed that I'd have to get new headlights due to the poor illumination. Turns out, the vintage lamps were just not properly aimed. Using your tutorial, I was able to get them back to proper alignment and I'm not longer dreading driving after dark. Not sure that I need to upgrade them after all.
Very practical - after watching the video, I know I can do this. some examples demonstrating how being slightly out of square or otherwise not perfectly positioned would affect the beam would also be helpful as many of us aren't as skilled or patient as the producer of this video and may be inclined to fudge a little.
M Spadaro I am glad the video was helpful!
Waoo!! This is the best video that I've seen about headlight adjustments
no waste.....You did not lose any detail!!
Thanks bro!!
To Chris & team, thank you for this video... Very helpful.
For the EU Viewers:
1. Check if your car needs a 10% or 20% offset
2. Set the tape as shown in the video
3. Measure the height and deduct the percentage
4. Back up 10m
5. Adjust your beames according to your calculation. You have to use the lower part of the asymmetric beam, not the high one as shown in the video. If your headlight is properly adjusted, you are able to light the sidewalk without blinding the traffic.
Edit:
Fog lights need 20%/100m (2%/10m) and Head lights 10/100m (1%/10m)
You are exactly right but you missed a step...I'm sure ohms law fits in there somewhere.
You know for the current drawn at each distance measured
In Denmark fx. your low beams must fall 1cm pr 1meter
Wasn't Chris using the lower edge of the low beam? I am fairly certain that is what he said. Perhaps you mean to say that in EU the upper edge of the low beam is used? That would of course drop the measurement the full height if the headlamp. Doing this would ensure that the beam is even lower than USA.
@@mark00820 EU mandates dipped low beam. The percentage required is based on the height of the headlight above ground and is noted on the headlight housing. For passenger cars -1% to -2% is common. With a 1% dip the cutoff drops 10cm every 10 meters. The cutoff of the beam should hit the ground at around 50m in front of the vehicle.
great job explaining on all your vids. thanks broski
Aaron Sierra Thanks Aaron! Glad the videos are helpful!
Good thing I found this. I put in some bright ass led's in my low beam yesterday and I need them to project more to the road.
this gotta be the best video on this topic I've seen

Hi Chris, I'm so glad i found this video of yours, cause the headlights of my Dad's car have been blinding people for quite some time, even on Low Beams, He's got a Mercedes Benz 200D W124 '89, It has 3 screws on top of the lights. I managed to Adjust the light perfectly! Thanks again for your awesome Videos!
+Labinot Hasani Awesome! Glad to hear the video was helpful!
Thank you! I couldn't find any way online to adjust my Crown Vic headlights!! This was the only video I could find!
Smashing tutorial chris :-))
It shows just how far out your new lights were, spot on now, no chance of blinding anyone :-)
Im sure if you were bothered about the right fog light you could add washers or something to the adjusters to correct it, but i would not bother, close enough :D
zx8401ztv Thanks bud! I like the washer idea and might give it a shot. Even though it is close enough, I am a stickler for perfection lol
Excellent video, thank you! I like the way you use painter's tape as opposed to a pen. It's a sign of respect considering it's chancy these days because people might think you're up to something. Just one thing...I always thought that the driver's side should be aimed inward toward the white line a bit rather than straight forward to prevent blinding oncoming traffic?
Great video ! Thanks for making this video . This will help me to adjust my lights .
Thanks Cris. This helped me a lot and saved me a few hundred.
Nice tutorial once again man. Hopefully people learn from this and their lights stop shining on my mirrors. By the way, who is your camera guy? Thanks !
Great work. Thanks much.
Thanks and no prob!
Thanks Chris, just what I have been looking for, and I have looked a lot, best one I have seen. I like the accuracy of your method.
For me, with headlight adjustment, near enough is not good enough.
Keep up the good work with the videos, like them all.
Martin Wedge Thanks a lot Martin! Yea, I watched a few headlamp adjustment videos myself and none were really spot on with all the details for a perfect aim and the ones that had a lot of details were confusing to say the least. This method is really simple so I had to share!
Just finished adjusting my headlights using your method...Worked great, thanks.
+jo6paq awesome! Glad the video was helpful!
The day was almost done. I was afraid of a no show. Thanks buds for the upload
Korey Moore Yea, this video took a lot of work and editing! It took two days to film and a whole day of editing! I had a lot to say about aiming headlights but I couldnt include it all because the video would be 30min lol. Glad you are eager for my Thursday and Monday video uploads!
the right side headlight is naturally higher and right of center because its always facing the sidewalk or side of the road for pedestrians or animals crossing the road coming from the ditch or tree's.
Also the road signs.
You don't want the right side any higher. His method accounts properly for a slight down angle which illuminates the road ahead of you at the proper distance. What you want is the driver's side light a little lower, and the passenger side light a little toward the curb
that's great chris!! you help me a lot in maintaining my car..Thanks a lot!!!
Never missed a single second while watching your videos.. Wish you would live somewhere nearby.. Anything you do mate, there's a explanation in details.. Well done..
Since your front bumper is bent (which causes one of your fog lights to be misaligned), maybe you could make a video showing how to straighten your bumper (with or without taking it off the car).
I Definitely need to do this to my Jeep since I have installed HID lights
jmoyet Yea, it should be even easier with projectors since the cutoff is so straight!
I REALLY LIKE YOUR VIDEO'S, THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL.
Great video Chris.....very well put together ......Thanks buddy.
Oh my god,
So much hardwork just to adjust you headlights.👌😑
Makes me quite glad to have a late 80's mercury. Just a couple of regular screws that you adjust from the front, no need to pop the hood.
Unfortunately, headlight alignment is low on the priority list of most people, even car guys. If it doesn't bother themselves, they don't care. You can know this by how often you get blinded by aftermarket xenons. You'd THINK that the egos of these types of xenon guys would at least align them properly because it would look good. But no. The "cool" ends at putting them in without any further adjustment.
I have factory Xenon automatic adjusting Xenon lights, they point too low so it's at the dealership right now to get them fixed and for a coolant flush.
That's a video ChrisFix needs to do ... "How to do a coolant flush for Xenon lights!!" I think I've been doing it wrong.
I did say "to get them fixed AND for a coolant flush" lol
I'm sure somebody out there might need clarification: headlights do not need a coolant flush lol
We don't want anyone looking silly asking for a coolant flush on their headlights!!!
yeah and I'm sure he can tell by the amount of views he got on this vid
Just used these tips and instructions to work on aiming the headlights on my wife's 2007 cobalt, though it doesn't look like it has a way to aim right and left, just up and down. Our right headlight is quite a bit lower and it won't come up to even hit the wall in front of us so we'll have to find some way to shim it or some way of further adjusting it from just lighting up the ground in front. Thanks again!
good video. very helpful and effective. used my driveway and garage door .
So what about lower cars? Is the idea all the same or should you be aiming otherwise?
yes
That's a good point since the lights are already lower
Chris can you just come adjust mine for me? ha
You rock Chris! Love your videos
Chris fix is the bomb.
Probably already noted...you want a little bias to the right (US or regions that drive on right side of road) as to illuminate the right highway strip/reflectors on the road surface.
Roy Niswanger Thanks for sharing!
This is exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks for the video i just installed LED Auxbeam headlights on my 1993 Ford Ranger and my headlights were way outa wack my left headlight was how your left fog light was and now the left and right are close to perfect! and i found that using a 4mm socket with a tiny ratchet worked a lill better than the vice grips. now i wont be blinding folks.
THANK YOU SO MUCH

good 1. very important tutorial. thanks for sharing.
What are people's opinions about those intense blue-white headlights that are so seriously blinding? I think they are dangerous and should be banned. Ordinary bright headlights are bad enough, but those blue-white ones actually hurt my eyes. Combine that with them misaligned and driving literally becomes a headache.
The problem is people putting them in improper housings. HID and LED bulbs are really only made for projector beam headlights. But people put them in reflector beams
Those lights are dangerous to the opposing travelers. I don't stare at them, I am looking to the right, but they are so bright they reduce my night vision.
The new super-reflective huge yellow warning signs are also dangerous. They are so effective at reflecting light that their yellow glare hides the road: I can tell a curve is coming up, but they hide the road.
I find that the newer cars that come with these lights standard are not blinding at all. It's the wannabe's who install them to their old rust buckets, who have them pointing to the sky; are the people causing the trouble.
HIDs are illegal in the state of Florida if your headlight housing is not designed for them. If you are being a nuisance and a cop sees it, you will be pulled over and given a fix-it ticket. The law is states that if you modify safety equipment in your vehicle from what it was intended that is an illegal modification. Even my projector headlight housings were not designed for HIDs and there are no lenses for HID headlights for my vehicle. The problem is that HIDs are longer than normal bulbs which means they will almost always be out of alignment and the light pattern is out of specification. I swapped my halogen bulbs with LED bulbs because they are the same size and I double checked that it did not modify my light pattern or alignment. LEDs are not that much brighter than bright halogen bulbs but they should never burn out. On the other hand the fans on them buzz loudly and you can hear them if your engine is off -- my car has an auto-off feature at lights so that is the only time I notice them.
acephantom903 yeah I hate HIDs. I have some of the newer LED headlights designed for non projector housings. Not blinding at all. Just a crisper white light.
I can't believe people disliked this video
Good video! concise but thorough. Thanks
Glad the video was helpful!
I'm just impressed you managed to film this without getting rousted by the cops or having a mallrat bike gang ride through the scene :)
wb5mgr Haha, I was pretty clear with my intentions with the camera gear, tape measure and stuff so hopefully the police would just check to make sure everything was ok (I never had any problems). As for the biker gang, they know better than to mess with ChrisFix LOL
