Magician reacts to Penn & Teller performing a fun magic trick on their own show - Penn & Teller Fool Us 2020. Penn invites Jonathan Scott (from the Property Brothers tv show) to be the volunteer for a magic trick involving ping pong balls, uncut card sheets, and something else at the end near and dear to our hearts! This video shows the reaction of someone familiar with magic so you can see how someone in this field feels about the performance! This is Fool Us Season 7 2020.

We know that they forced the 8♡.
When selecting the ping pong ball, why not have him just stick his hand in and pick one vs the way they did it? I feel like the numbers that came out were also a force.
When they shuffled the "cards," I noticed Teller released first and released a few before Penn did. Then, they flipped the "deck." That tells me they knew where the "card" page was and it was just a little bit of math to get it to the right position.

Scary fact, relevant as its like a living nightmare. In Ukraine the translation of Chenobyl is Wormwood. And in the Book of Revelation Wormwood was a star, nuclear, that fell on the land and water and poisoned many people. Now why would they call a nuclear power plant wormwood? To be honest, Life is far more scary than any of my nightmares.

All the balls had correct numbers for the eight of hearts, because the eight of hearts can only appear in one spot on the card sheet. Notice how the other ball Penn reads is 402, exactly 56 away from the selected ball, 458. They also have multiple outs, because they can count on that last sheet in any direction, starting from any corner.

I've not seen a ton of his card magic, but from what I've seen it doesn't look like his specialty. His strengths look like patter, charisma and general sleight of hand, I haven't seen anything to suggest he'd be intimate enough with the feel of cards to do that vid justice. I hope I'm wrong because I really would like to see it while I'm trying to figure out how to watch that Richard Turner documentary that supposedly covers it well.

Those three balls had the following numbers, 458, 402 and 234.
The number multiple of 56 closest to 458 is 448. If we subtract 448 from 458 we have 10.
Doing the same math for all the numbers we have the follwing:
    458 - 448 = 10
    402 - 392 = 10
    234 - 224 = 10
So regardless the choosen number, the position on the sheet will be always 10.

@@gimpleg9913 Probably all the sheets were actually 2 sheets stuck together, with the sheets on top all different and the sheets underneath all the same (missing 8H circled). It's kind of hard to tell by the angle, but might be that Teller is dealing second for the "wrong" sheets, then dealing the top sheet for the "right" one (in which case there is only one sheet that has the missing 8H and it is kept on top).

  • @Emilio1985
    @Emilio1985 Před 3 lety +25

I would totally watch a video about the different quality of cards.
Also, weird thing that I noticed but I'm not sure why P&T did it that way: 448 would be 8 full sheets of cards, and then counting from 449 to 458 to the 8 out of hearts would be on the 9th sheet of cards. But, they throw down 7 sheets and on the 8th sheet Penn just says that's 448 and then start counting on the same sheet. So, they were off by one full sheet; what they actually showed us was card #402. I'm not sure if that's something they practiced as an "in case we don't get the shuffle perfectly, we adapt" or whatever, but it did jump out at me as odd.

I have two fairly regular night-time experiences:
At least once a week I am flying, using my mind I rise a few feet into the air, then fly horizontally over obstacles. The problem is I can never reach the speed I want.
The SCARY one, which does not occur often thankfully, but really DOES scare me, as I think it may be real, and I may be awake, but I dare not move or open my eyes (I live alone) - SOMEONE or SOMETHING climbs onto my bed! I clearly feel the mattress depress on one side of the bed due to the weight of the ‘person’, I even feel the presence through the bedding which covers me, and I lay there hardly daring to breathe, pretending to be asleep, or maybe I am asleep. After the experience I always wake up (or maybe I was already awake) feeling quite scared and check around the bedroom. Never seen anything but it is always so real. Creeping me out now just thinking about it. I would love to know if anyone else has this experience or can explain it.

For those who want to know this is how the trick is done ( most have figured out )
The card is forced on him, the deck is not freshly opened and we don’t see any of the cards but the bottom card, the first couple cards and the picked ( the rest of the cards were most likely the same card) So they know what his card is
When they shuffle the big cards they never shuffle the bottom cards ( cards are faced up for this) so that order never changed
The balls that fell out were in a plastic box that is why you see no balls fill the space the missing balls were once they fell out.
The balls that came out all would equal to the 10th number on the card
346 ( not given as an option but can see) 392-46=10th space
    402 is 448-46=402
    458= 504-46=458
1298=1334-46=1298 (the ball that is chucked but he only said 1290)
The teller flips the deck making the non shuffled bottom now the top. When they go through the cards Teller doesn’t grab the top card but the one below which can be seen at 11:17. You can see the fact the top card has a hole cut out already as it is blended in with the one below. So all he has to do is give the top card once they reach the right number.
Unfortunately, this is made obvious because they messed up and gave the card one card early. He went from 392 to 448 but that doesn’t work because 448 is the number of the whole card. So when he starts counting it should have started at 393 and ended at 402 which was one of the ball options but he got mixed up.

  • @VadimCC

    That one is easy:
    1. Card force (probably whole deck of the same card).
    2. Fixed ball machine. Strong rotation makes balls cover small pocket near the door. All "surviving" balls are 10+N*56 (except for the first one Penn picks, but then he throw it away without showing, so he probably said the random number, not the one on the ball). Btw, all of them were quite small numbers, which is good for to shorten the act, but statistically highly unlikely).
    3. Then fixed dealing of the "cards" - second from the top (look closely on the dealing technique for the wrong and the final right card.
    4. All you have left is count 10 to the final cut card.
    Easy.

    Worst dream:
I was in an office of sorts, and HP was getting fired. There were several corporate types sitting in a circle around him, and ripping into him. They normally had a temp agency that they referred ex-employees to, but they were telling him that he was going to have to go to a heck of a lot of agencies to find one that would be stupid enough to hire him. And this went on for a while.
Then we were in a room, and I was giving a standard "blow-off-steam" type speech...the whole "boy, those guys sure are jerks, you oughta just kill 'em" type thing. Then one of the corporate types sticks his head in through the door to tell HP something. This is one of the guys that isn't so bad, and I think he's here to tell HP something conciliatory (he starts with "My wife, Veronica, and I..." before he gets cut off), but I guess I figured HP still needs to be angry for a while, so I say something like "speak of the devil" in a derisive way. This is apparently all HP needs to blow and he grabs the corporate type and starts hitting him. I suddenly realize that he's going to try to kill him...and that he expects me to help; after all, it was my idea.
I start aiming some kicks at the corporate type, but I don't feel like he's done anything to deserve to die, so I can't really get into the fight. I've been guilted into fighting someone that doesn't deserve punishment, and it's the wrong thing to do. People are watching me, and I know that if I don't fight well I'll be embarrassed, but I don't want to hurt this guy, either. I grab his leg and hold it up, but he continues fighting HP quite successfully, even with me grabbing and holding one leg up in the air.
This continues for some time, then I give his leg a sudden yank and the corporate type falls to the floor. He easily blocks the attacks that HP throws at him, and stands up again. Now he seems to notice me for the first time. While he continues to block HP's attacks he begins to shift a knife around in his hand. The motion is fluid, fast, and deadly in design. I grab that hand, but he can easily keep the knife out of reach, and twist his hand around to a new threatening position. It is no effort for him. I suddenly realize how good this guy is, and that he's toying with us.
He gets HP in a headlock and turns to me. "Do you think for a minute that you will survive if I fight you? Leave now while you are still able." As he's doing this he's moving the knife around in his fingers. I know he's going to torture and kill HP, but I know I can't stop him. I run away.
I've failed many times now and I feel awful. I've been led by pride, false loyalty and fear into making terrible choices. I'm walking with HP and the corporate guy and we're going somewhere. I have no thoughts running through my head. We get to the large coal stove, and they begin to climb in. I can see the red glow of the still hot coals. The corporate guy sits on the big bank of coals and helps HP climb inside. I'm getting ready to follow, leaning on the hearth awaiting my turn. As they're sitting there, there's not a lot of room left, so they're working around to make room for me. I suddenly think how hot it must be in there. Jesus! Those are hot coals! Why the hell would anyone climb into a stove? I jerk out of my reverie and pull myself off the burning hearth. I can feel how hot it is now, and when I pull away I can see the steam rise up from where my seared flesh was on the hot hearth moments ago. Now HP and the corporate type are looking at me and laughing, and they burst into flames. They say something to the effect of: "You don't want to follow us now? Why not? You'll be coming along shortly. *laugh* Where else are you going to go?"
    I startle awake.

Math guy not a magician so maybe this isn't a viable solution, but the way I'd do the trick is this way, aside from the jedi powers, if you have a sheet with a single card missing, someplace in the middle, you can count to it in different ways. They went from left to right along the bottom, then up a row and to the left which seemed strange, but it could have been counting up from the bottom left and then down the next column, or up and then up the next column etc. There's a lot of numbers that depending on what way you counted would end up on the empty rectangle. Once you've worked out a way to memorize which path each number takes, you can add multiples of 56 to that number and write all of the combinations on balls, counting up "with the audience" gives you a difference which corresponds to the low number you've memorized a path for. With just going left to right, or alternating, and starting at different corners, you can arrange 16 unique paths to a card location, times 52 is 832 different numbered balls that lead to one location when you assume they lead to different places. I'd imagine you could fill a tube with 2496 balls with 3 copies of each, and say it's 2912 balls and because as Penn said "Asking people to picture 2912 is pretty hard" they wouldn't notice 516 missing balls, or that every ball was part of a triplet.

On first sight, it looks rather simple. The guy never examined the deck, so he got 8 of hearts everywhere. Most trivial force ever. The ball shuffling didn't move them much, and then the numbers... the guy picked 458, Penn "offered" a 402 -- difference is 56. You could also see a 234 -- add 4*56 and you're at 458. All the balls that came out pointed to the same location on the sheet, and Penn/Teller knew which sheet they needed because they knew the number that was picked -- so all they had to do was shuffle accordingly.
I'm not familiar with how to to produce items, so no idea how they brought the hearts in. But, since they knew it's the 8 of hearts, they had them prepared in a suitable way.

The problem with 'scariest dream' is that they became a whole lot less scary after 1989. A typical one from my childhood: I am at school, and my friend is talking to me about some nonsense. Then I notice that the wall visible behind him through a window has been lit up by a tremendously bright flash of light. Next I am standing with my potbellied skeletal younger brother over some ruined desert sands. Etc etc. most children and adults had such dreams constantly from 1948 until 1988. From "Hiroshima Mon Amour" to "The Sacrifice". Other nightmares are a kind of joke in comparison.

Ugh lol. Thanks for reminding me of THAT feeling 😬. Not a dream, but I was in the Gulf of Mexico one time swimming (Ft. Myers, FL)-went out just above waist level and was just kinda standing there, looking out into the Gulf. The water was calm af and nothing was active underneath me (I THOUGHT), when something suddenly HIT my leg dead on. The blood immediately drained from my face as I went thru what it could possibly have been.
It was not soft or a "brush by" of a fish and I ruled out a large stick (it hit me with intention whatEVER it was), honestly my mind "knew" it was a shark of some sort because it felt SOLID and intentional, as it was a dead on hit on the side of my leg (I'm 4'11"-so prob ~14" or so above the sea floor-ish?) and that feeling of utter terror in an INSTANT, I will never forget.
I turned and quickly went back on shore and honestly, I do believe that was the LAST time I ever swam in the ocean. NOW I live in the desert SW instead of SWFL. So, I'm good, lol 😉👍.

I live in northern Kentucky (greater Cincinnati) and I believe they moved the manufacturing facility just across the river and probably used most of the same equipment and possibly updated some. Taxes and the cost of living just by crossing the river are much less so they probably did that to reduce overhead and employees income taxes. Strange how a river/state line can change so much about a company these days. It takes me a 3 minute drive to get across.

As far as worst dream: I was about 11 or 12 and I will never forget it. For some reason I was in a circus act, but there was no audience. I waa on a trapeze and somehow fell and there was no net, however I just kept falling and falling. I asked people to help as I passed them on my way down but no one would. I somehow became aware that I was dreaming and I had heard if you fell in a dream and hit the ground you would die, so I somehow willed myself to wake up. I remember waking up terrified and not going back to sleep the rest of the night.
