- To help the environment it is good practice to recycle all the plastic items we use every day, but how much of that plastic actually gets recycled? Let's break down the facts!

I agree. I'm a slow-reader... as I am a moron. I had to slow the video to 0.75x Playback speed just to read before it zipped away. Either slow down or get a narrator.

So the main reason so few items get recycled is because we (the consumer) have lacked the knowledge or have simply not taken the time to put the correct items in the correct bins.

This isn't me having a hissy fit or saying "unsub!" (in part because I did that well before today, pretty much when Kyle left). Just my reaction to the new BC vid that popped up in my "Recommended" section.
I pressed play, first time a BC vid post-Kyle leaving. Got words on screen. Odd. Okay, lets see this out. 10 sec later, no one on screen. Started skipping through a few random spots, no one on screen. No voice over. Nothing. I thought "Fuck this". Typed this message. And as I hit "comment", I'll be finding out how to remove BC from my recommended section.

How is this channel alive still?
I want to stay with because science but really if you are going to make a video, don't just do text, if you are only going to write text then just write an article. Of course I subbed to Kyle's new channel but I can sub to both; but when I want to read I go read articles; when I look up videos I expect verbal communication.
Get a host, get a host, get a host! Don't just wait for someone with the same charisma/comeliness as Kyle, anyone is better than just text.

Look...I know this an awkward time to find a new host...but no one wants to sit through what is essentially a powerpoint presentation with just theme music playing over it...I can go to Facebook for that. Literally any human with voice would be better. Yes, it will be hard to proceed without Kyle (who we all originally subscribed for) BUT just be honest with folks. If y'all don't have a host lined up, don't force it with incomplete content...we can wait and (hopefully) the community Kyle and your team have fostered will be more open to new ideas and people ESPECIALLY if it seems like some effort was actually being made to make the same level of content we came to expect with Kyle as the host.
And we can get the same type of content with Kyle now. Over on his own channel

Because Science and Nerdist, Question. I know that it takes time to find a replacement, especially for someone as videogenic and fun to watch as Kyle is. My question is this, has the Pandemic that is affecting the US currently (comment left in March 2020) affected your ability to find a suitable replacement, or are you guys hoping Kyle will change his mind and come back and are just delaying until then?

As someone with 3d printers I wish there was a way to recycle PLA plastic. I would happily box it up and mail it off every few months but I don't think anyone is doing that yet. Thankfully PLA is biodegrade but still I'd rather recycle it.
Not really biodegradable either. It needs industrial composting machines for that.
Best is to possibly make some other project with scraps. Like melting into a board
@@dutchik5107 damn really? I never looked too far into it. I heard it was biodegradable and was fine for the landfill. Maybe it was petg I heard was made from corn and it's biodegradable. I might have them mixed up.
@@x9x9x9x9x9 it's like all of them because you want the plastic to actually last and not say biodegrade even a little while say storing food. It usually needs incredible heat. And the "technical" term is usually "conpostable." Because you can't control "oh don't degrade when you are used, but degrade quickly while in relative similar conditions when we don't want you anymore.
Your fridge is moist too. The food and air also have bacteria and fungi. You don't want packaging to degrade while in use.
That's why as soon as you process it to meet the criteria you need, you can't throw it into nature.
And "good for landfill" yeah. Because with your greens, some places don't use industrial composters or don't use them LONG enough for it to work. Many even burn it as biofuel. And not recycling because it's a whole other process that most places don't do. A completely seperate one from oil plastics. And it looks very similar so most sorting machines can't seperate it. Usually leading that entire batch to go to landfill.
Of course you can put the plastic in the garden. And it will fall apart. But it isn't really on a chemical level. You just get more pieces of plastic.
Come.on, guys. You can at least get a host! Not having one is BS. Or not BS, as the case may be.

Make sure you're not making things worse with your "reusable" options. Metal straws, for example, don't last long enough to make up for how much worse for the environment making a metal straw is over hundreds of plastic straws. The fantasy of plastic straws being some major catastrophe on their own comes from one kid who made some phone calls and extrapolated carelessly, and repeating the unscientific claims of a child as if it were a study is causing real harm to people with disabilities with these straw bans.
