What a lovely looking beer Rick. I have yet to brew a kolsch but I did brew a Kotbusser a few years ago which was a similar colour and clarity. I think that fell foul of the Reinheidsgebot law but has since grown in popularity with some home brewers. I think you should definitely do a hoppy lager and think out of the box. The south African lager I have in the keg is supposed to be hoppy but it is still lagering so I can’t say whether it’s what I aimed for yet, but early signs gave me hope😂 Cheers my mate and love to all the family👍👍👍
Amazing clarity! Kölsch is a very nice style, i have one in a fermenter at the moment. Since we are approaching march my inspirational message will be a Märzen... and for hops in a hoppy lager i can recommend centennial/citra and el dorado. Brewed one a while ago and it came out very refreshing! 😀 Fun facts is a nice component!🍻
Sounds like the pressure ferment went very well, beer looks ace. If you can brew a kolsch then you can brew a lager, its the same process just takes a bit longer. With pressure ferming you can increase the temperature up to kolsch temps without any problems. I have an NZ pils on at the minute using citra and its great, definitely worth using if you have some in stock. Finally, here's a fun fact that I learned very recently... it is illegal to cut your grass on a Sunday in Germany. Noise pollution and all that.
lol it’s not advised to cut your grass when I’m on a night shift near me 🤣😂love a fun fact. I’ve just put on tap a nova lager citra lager and it’s beautiful think it’s my next vid out. Hope your well ? loving your content cheers 👍🏼🍻
Brilliant video, absolutely brilliant clarity and brilliant cameo appearance. Brewed a Kölsch last year, clarity was great though not as perfect as that. What a beautiful style!
Wúnderbar! and don't mind the Reinheidsgebot, ze Germans lost a case in '87 from the european commission cause it limited the free trade in eu, so it's not mandatory to brew like it. It can be a challenge brewing by it but why if you get the same result😉
It’s a thing of beauty mate! I love a hoppy lager. Just kegged an IPL with Citra, Motueka and Nelson. Also love the NZ pilsner style which is essentially a hoppy lager. Cheers 🍻
Lovely beer. I like Kölsch but have never brewed one before. Might give it a go this year. Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria are good fruity "new world" German hops you could try in a pilsner-lager. Cheers!🍺
I absolutely love a Kölsch at any time of the year. 2019ish I think I brewed about 3 or 4 over the year was fantastic. Good luck with your NEIPA, I made 1 once and it was lovely. I'm currently researching to do my second but not sure what way I'm gonna go with it. Definitely do a fruity lager. Citra and strawberry.
Brilliant video as always! Did you sample it after a few weeks? Apparently Kölsch is best drank reasonably fresh after about 4 weeks. Also what yeast did you use? I'm planning a proper Märzen, brewing it in a couple of weeks and planning to leave it till September...
Love a kolsch, that beers is crystal clear.
Recon a fruity lager would be spot on for summer I might have to do one myself.
Cheers 🍻
Please Rick, get the Kolsch bloke on one of your videos.
I cant stop saying it now!
He definitely doesn’t live in the UK unfortunately the budget isn’t big enough to fly him in yet 🤣

Very good looking beer, clarity is amazing! Go for a hoppy lager, lemon drop and Motueka hops

Sounds good cheers 👍🍻
You could try Wakatu and or cashmere hops in a Lager to give a nice lime/lemon flavour.
Great idea cheers 👍🏼🍻

I’m loving the kölsch, the citra nova lager is already happily fermenting away and I’m still scared of a NEPA cheers 👍🍻
SANTA!!!!!
Clarity on that is ridiculous!!!

Hi I used crossmyloof kölsch yeast and didn’t drink it very young but I’m still loving it. Cheers for watching 👍🍻
