    So, his argument against the minimum wage is that 'below the poverty line' wages are a useful punishment for "poor choices"?
    Shitty attitude, dude.

    • @haverjr
      @haverjr Před 5 lety +5

      So let me understand this what is the ultimate libertarian punishment for bad economic choices? Lets say you did not hit any of those success markers and got married, had kids before 21, and did not graduate highschool. From their you rack up debt to feed and house yourself and your family to the point of needing bankruptcy protections. But in the libertarian perspective you should not be able to declare bankruptcy due to it being a government debt forgiveness program so what would you do with that person to "punish" them debtor's prison? Indentured servitude until debt paid off? Slavery for a set number of years? This is why we have economic laws and regulations outlining how much a minimum wage should be because humans deserve a set amount for their time while working for any company. We also have protections against being punished due to financial failings all of which stop the establishment of a even lower class below poverty level that would be considered a subservient/slave class as was the case in centuries past.

      its the exact opposite. if you don't have experience and/or a degree, companies won't think that you can generate enough value to sustain the minimum wage payments they provide you.
      let's say you can only make a company 4$ an hour, instead of them giving you a job, giving you experience and letting you start climbing the ladder, you get 0$.
      as an analogy, imagine you are stuck in a deep hole. minimum wage is like there being a ladder to climb out of the hole but the start of the ladder is 15ft above you.
      without minimum wage that ladder would have an addon to extend all the way to the bottom and everyone else would still be on the same step as they were before.

      @@a-ny9647 and actually it was racist. I know minorities that are outspoken libertarians because they Watched their local governments promise change in their communities for 30-40 years and those communities are worse now.
      My favorite people are those that say fuck the government and do shit on their own. So that’s why I’m a libertarian. I hate republicans and I hate democrats.

    As the classic saying goes, libertarians are like house cats. They think they’re fierce, totally independent beings with no comprehension of the world around them, how it came to be, or appreciation for it. This guy started on second base and says, “well, look at me. If I can do it, anyone can”, as he’s watching someone at home plate who’s never played baseball getting pitched 100mph fastballs and sliders from Nolan Ryan. I’m from Utah. Sadly, this is how 60% of the people are in that state.

      They are so myopic and childish. The furthest thing from holistic thinkers. They think every positive thing in their life is the result of their own actions alone and completely disregard the plethora of advantages and privileges provided to them by other people (their parents included) to make all of their success possible. They also treat "personal choice" like it's some magical primary cause that transcends causality and everything starts at it, forgetting that the choices we make are inextricably tied to our genes, upbringing and environment, the greatest portion of which we have absolutely no control over.
      It reminds me of an older debate Destiny had with Sargon of Akkad about poverty in the black community. They were discussing the causes so Sargon acknowledges that poverty is partially caused by having children out of wedlock, at which point Destiny asks why black people are having children out of wedlock at a disproportionately high rate and Sargon's answer was "because they choose to" and to him this is where the discussion stops. It's like the libertarian version of "God did it." It's all the same with these delusional people.

    Faster way to shut this question down (I'm only like 3 minutes in, so they might've said this after this point): When a company pays below the living wage, their employees rely on welfare and other social services. Why should I, as a taxpayer, subsidize a company's decision to pay their employees under a living wage?

    • @danirabinowitz5049
      @danirabinowitz5049 Před 5 lety +1

      @Alexandre Gareau Haha probably. Then I'd probably bring up examples of gigantic corporations that would crumble if they didn't get subsidies from the government, shattering their perception of the glorious free market. If that'd even work. Libertarians, huh?

      Daniel Rabinowitz Good point. We already have the perfect example of how exploitative that is via Walmart.
      One of the largest corporations in our nation, yet they pay their employees so little they need to rely on food stamps to make ends meet.
      WE the taxpayer end up footing the bill for a company that makes BILLIONS a year that could very well pay their employees more and help out EVERYONE by eliminating those social welfare needs.
