I like to think of “pushing my bike forward” rather than shifting my weight back. As soon as I shifted to that mindset, everything fell into place.
Also the same as me haha cheers!
Same here! It sounds strangely counter intuitive but this is what works best for me
Poor choice of words
Every MTB "how to" video starter pack - full suspension bike with dropper post... :P
"Don't hesitate" is fantastic advice! Either send it or don't... but going over that last feature hesitantly or slowly... you'll nose dive, slam the ground, and be over the bars before you can say "princess!"
Couldn’t agree more!
Lol
"Ready when you are, Princess!" 😂
Kenneth Buck 🤣🤣🤣 we been friends for a while...
@@MTBTravelReview it therefore concludes 😆🤣 kidding aside. Looking forward to see him do the gap drop soon.
@@mjojrjr6231 🤣 he will get there soon!
I think where I get skittish is when the drops are on fairly steep downhills. The increase in speed is what makes me hesitate.
Really good, well paced and honest.. gonna try it out this afternoon!!
Thanks for the tips. Great video!
I am so deprest at this moment and you guys are making me happy. thanks.
I need a healmet.
Thanks guys. Nice & clear instruction & it worked!😄
NICE... sweet bikes, cant wait till i get a full suspension
Good, Good!
Night Shift Brewing shirt definitely improves your riding... Now I need a beer! Keep it up awesome videos!
Jonny Fraser haha agreed and cheers!
great video going to try theses methods today thanks man
Loving the videos! Keep em ciming!
Paul Wessel thanks!
Thanks I’m getting into mountain biking and you have one of the better videos that I’ve seen
Glad we could help! More to come.
Thanks for this. I've watched several similar videos but this one seems to be the one that makes the most sense for me. 🥂
Happy to help and thanks for the support!
Great video, you guys rock !!! Thanks !!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks very much!
Minimum speed is enough for the back wheel to clear the lip before the front wheel begins dropping. Great video series.
Thank you!
Great upload i learned a lot
Awesome stuff!! Was just at willowdale staring down a small drop but didn't know where to start. Can't wait to try it now!
Andrew Beckford happy to help! Let me know how it goes!
Just ran across this video, simple explanation and terms and visuals. Nothing fancy or over complicated. Cool to see an average rider try it. Nice man 🤙🏼
Really appreciate it man! It’s been a blast teaching Bryan and I’m glad I can help others improve. 🙏🏼
Great video. Great work Bryan. Takes a cool person to learn in public like that. He picked it up quick.
Cheers!
Another great video!!
Revel in the Ride many thanks! 🙏🏼
Bryan is crushing it let’s get him some raised handlebars!
WildMeff haha he’s a quick learner and pretty sure he’s already on raised bars since filming this!
Great video! Definitely learned a lot.
Thanks man. Happy to help!
Good tips
Thanks for helping learn to ramp.
You are welcome!
Great tips ! I make my first "big" drops in my last video..I hope to make even bigger with your advice.
Very informative!
Thank you!
I really liked this thank you.
You are welcome. Thank you!
This has help me gonna try this out. I started summer and I have hit the same drop heights but I still want to learn technic .
Technique is key!
Good stuff.🤘🏻
Thanks 🤘🏼
great video!!
Thanks!
Great video. Well thought and I love the progression. Bryan is superb in his role and it does help a lot to see a non-pro yanking on the bike like us mortals do. Two Thumbs up !
Greatly appreciated! It’s a blast to watch Bryan improve!
Beginner here. Thanks, gonna try that one princes.
Let me know how it goes!
Love all the very nice awesomeness hewn in when Bryan's clearly struggling to adapt to the task. Stay positive, but honest! maybe better for development?
Gotta start somewhere!
Nice idol
Very good video thanks
Thank you!
like the Night Shift T....
very good explanation
Thank you!
Dang his first bike already has a top end suspension that alone is worth almost another mountain bike. Well the fork at least. Probably would be my first upgrade to a high end part once the breaks and tires are upgraded. At least he did it right.
I appreciate these videos... I think I do all these three things..but then I do something you don't mention: I can't stop staring at the drop which then freezes me up. I cautiously progress and I know that my biggest fears are landing-- am I going to fast? am I going to bounce off the peddles? will I have control when I land? How do I ensure my front/back wheels are where they need to be instead of angling too low, high, etc.?
And like the guy said--- how do you know if you are going fast enough?
All the videos I watch talk about the take off, but I would really love to watch more discussion on the landings. The only helpful bit I have found is to keep your eyes forward to the next feature/hazard, which is my #1 problem.
😄 as funny as it is, I love the advice of "if you don't go.... you don't go!"
new subscriber sir thanks for this video.
Thanks for the support!
Great tips!
Nice tutorial! From Phillipines
Thanks!
Very very nice bro...
Thanks!
Another thing to remember is speed. One of the most dangerous things you can do with a bigger drop is go too slow, as this translates to a greater ratio of drop in height of the front wheel (the front wheel leaves the drop first) versus distance traveled. If you're scared of a drop, you're more likely to case it and faceplant if you go too slow.
Not saying to drop in at 20mph, just realize if you're hitting the brakes right before the edge to come to a crawl, you're setting yourself up for failure.
Well said. Totally agree.
Thanks for the vid! Just a Q: when you get to the edge of a 3feet drop, do you need to push the handlebars forward? (I am fully beginner, so I saw a lof of videos with that, so just wanted to check if that is necessary, or would help to improve, or would make it more dangerous for a rookie). Thanks!
Yes and no. haha. What people are referring to is essentially the start of a manual. (check out my manual video for details). In reality you would actually be using you arms and legs to push the bike forward, thus unweighting your front wheel as I explained in this video. Again, the goal is to remove the weight from your front wheel so it doesn't drop down when it goes off of the lip of the drop. The slower you are going, the more you will need to push the front end out, or manual, but if you are going the correct speed you shouldn't need to.
Keeping low torso in attack position and open arms when thé front wheel down...
Haha! No skidding! Cmon Brian! Trail foul!
Right!
These drops look great for practicing! What trail/ trail system is this?
LDT in MA
Hey! I been following you for a while and I’m local to you! Curious to know where this is so I can get some practice in..
I no longer live in the area, but this spot in these videos is Lowell Dracut Tyngsborough State Forest. A great little training ground.
Great vid. Isn't it important to measure the bottom bracket, so beginners know if they are safe to just roll a drop or not?
Not sure what you mean...
@@MTBTravelReview Sorry about that. I mean measure the drop with your bike's BB: Front wheel on the ground on one side of the drop, back wheel on the ground on the other side of the drop, does the BB touch? If so, then it's not safe to roll the drop because it could get hung. If it clears then it's probably okay to roll the drop as slow and carefully as you want. Just sayin' beginners probably have more confidence starting to ride small drops knowing they can be safe even if they just roll it. As they work up, the ability to measure a drop comes in handy because sometimes when you scout a trail you might find it's better to just roll some drops rather then send them anyway. Not that my skill is all that high, but I learned this valuable tip from other CZcamsrs.
@@barkingmadman1169 that's a great point and definitely something to keep in mind! I am more of bash guard guy, so anything is rollable with a little smash. haha
Holla bike's 🖐️
I think he could benefit from a shorter stem and slightly wider bars? If he likes it that’s cool but it just looks a little dicey
Owen Kennedy good eye! He is now on a 40mm stem and some riser bars. That stem was wayyyy too long for him.
best advice i have ever been given to avoid bunny hop/pulling up too much is too just push the bike away from you.
Rob Brown solid advice!
where did you record this
Colby Mtb Lowell Dracut town forest in MA
Nice video, good advice, but if there's a lip it's not really a drop.
Thank you and semantics…
Can you make a video like this using a hardtail mtb.
I wouldn’t do drops like this on a hard tail. I love my squish! Same exact concept though. Just a harsher landing.
Brain had too less air in his back tyre
Why are Brian's bars sloping down towards the ends? Do they need some rotation?
He was new to riding. Still learning his bike setup.
@@MTBTravelReview Ah no worries, he did really well in the cornering video, how's he doing now?
@@hambo76 he’s doing great! Always improving.
@@MTBTravelReview Awesome!
A lil late but can you jump small stairs?
I am sure Bryan can now!
is this relevent to a hardtail?
Sure is. Though on a hard tail you can also drop you back end first like a trials rider to absorb bigger drops.
my biggest problem is hesitation for sure
where to practive drop offs when there are no drop offs around, or just huge ones -.-'
Freakzontour start on a street curb and then build one out of wood. There’s always drops around, just have to get creative!
No skidding!
#1 rule!!
But Princess not do last drop 😢
Princess wasn’t ready, but when he becomes a queen it will be no problem!
@06:00 he is at minimum speed.
I did it on a 2 meter high drop and broke an arm and my back
Very sorry to hear that. I hope you are ok.
Why didn't you have that dude do the last one?
He wasn’t ready for that step. The best riders know their limits.
@@MTBTravelReview he could grow a set lol jk
Brian looks like he got out of prison early for good behavior, but is eminent danger of relapsing back into a life of crime...
😂 Nailed it! He mostly harmless.
Brian did not try the last one. Your video is not useful.
Your comment is not useful.
Bryan should drop the attitude - he comes across like a 16 year old kid. Instructor is good but not everyone appreciates that fake surfer attitude.
