    The journey continues! Great results for the setup, though I don't blame you for being scared. I think you should absolutely figure out a safe testing setup before you keep pushing, and keep your eyeballs (and ears, face, etc.) intact :D

    i impressed how well 3d print part work and hold that pressure, maybe next do metal printing

      thanks, really I'm kind of surprised as well , long term once I get something that works real well , ill send the files out to be metal printed . I do want to see what can be done with cheap material and a basic printer . The machine shop defiantly helps tho.

    I just got my printer set up man in 2018 I designed a roots style charger and a planetary gear supercharger for a weedeater it worked for a little bit my goal was to cast the super chargers in metal but now they have metal printers
    this is exactlywhat we need great job

    I think that your impeller might need something improvement, but i agree that the centrifugal supercharger is the way to go
    However i wouldn't trash the regen compressor, try a 2 in series set-up

    • @turboprint3d
      @turboprint3d  Před 11 měsíci

      The last unit was a 2stage and really saw not much improvement, I'm not completely wiping it off the table but I need to do some work on the housing and impeller for the Regen . The poor quality impeller on the snailshell is likely the source of all that whistle witch is wasted energy . I just made it all by eye and feel , now I have a decent starting place I have a direction to improve .

      @@Lucas_sGarage there's a pretty hard limit on pressure from a Regen pump tho , using turbulence to build pressure makes a bunch of heat , the higher the pressure the more heat , and everything seams to peak around 3 psi . That being said I'm sure there's room for improvement but I did copy my design roughly from I think a German company . That's where I got the idea to offset the impeller towards the ported side . That companies max running range is 2.5psi if I'm not mistaken and usually have some sort of pressure shutdown after 3 psi . Between my experience and that companies standard setting I'm guessing anything above 3 pis can lead to issues . That's being said I do have some ideas , like tipping the blades back to have less friction , too much would likely degrade performance. Reality is 3 psi may be a max limit for petg made superchargers , but generally in industry the turbo compressors have a range of 3-25 ish psi , but can be pushed higher with current designs . That however comes at a way higher rpm than the regen witch likely becomes a problem with any fdm printed parts . So my likely course of action is push the current setup as far as I can , then go back to a Regen pump on the same gearbox to be able to use it at 2-3 psi reliably , or moreso anyways . I would love to have something that holds together long enough to make a few drag strip runs or something .

      @Lucas_sGarage Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@turboprint3d I think that another thing that you can do is crank the diameter of the compressor itself, in order to achieve the same tangential speed with lower angular speed

    • @turboprint3d
      @turboprint3d  Před 11 měsíci

      @@Lucas_sGarage yeah that would make a difference quickly but I would Imagen if I get over mach 1 I'm sure plastic is going to have an issue , there is a hard limit of the materials and I'm determined to find it.

    say i want to put this on my go kart, how do you think i should go about doing that. Also i was planing on printing it with PETG-CF, so do you think it would hold up to some abuse

    • @turboprint3d
      @turboprint3d  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That depends on a lot of factors , it might work ok at the gearing I'm working with on a gx160 or 200 but I have no way to confirm that . I printed all my parts from Petg . Cf Petg is a little more brittle but much harder and stronger it may be a decent material for the impeller and maybe the gears . In my latest video I tried a draw through system unsuccessful, since then I found that I have too much internal bypass as well as leakage to get a proper vacuum to a carb . I'm currently working on a fuel injection system ( mechanical). Short of waiting for that I guess u could make up your own fuel system or buy or modify a carb for blow through like I did on this setup .

    look at proper CSC designs... skidoo... the old planes... kwaka H2...
    note the trim ratios...
    tiny inducers, massive exducers. they are not turbo chargers, theyre driven by engine power... they can be big.
    the longer the air remains trapped inside the compressor wheel, the less chance it has to backflow, and the more gradual the compression can be across the radius.
    the larger the diameter, the lower the RPM has to be.
    and then, plastic impellers are better off as closed rather than open blade design...

    I'm assuming you've balanced the impeller and the large gear?

    • @turboprint3d
      @turboprint3d  Před 11 měsíci +1

      i did not , witch it why its scary , however I have had an idea about that . I have been thinking of some sort of balancer that would be on the impeller shaft that would have a track with balance beads in it . seen something similar on a high speed dvd burner .

    • @madmanmapper
      @madmanmapper Před 11 měsíci

      @@turboprint3d Get a DuBro balancer. I'm assuming the impeller would be light enough that removing material would be adequate for balancing, I don't think you'd need weights.

    • @turboprint3d
      @turboprint3d  Před 11 měsíci

      @@madmanmapper well I tried something similar on just the impeller and couldn't find a particularly heavy spots . Its such a small diameter and most of the weight is in the center close to the shaft. All that aside this is a starting point and the current impeller is crazy inefficient , and like will be replaced before any unbalance is an issue . Once I have some other things nailed down and have a more complete unit , balance will be something I will have to look into . I know where an industrial shaft and rotor balancing machine is , if they still have someone to run it by then I'll likely bring it there and have it balanced .
