    What is a misplaced modifier?
    Modifier : a modifier is a word or a group of words that gives information about a noun or a verb. It modifies or changes the meaning of a noun or a verb.
    A misplaced modifier is a word or a group of words - a phrase or a clause - that sits or is placed next to a word or words it doesn't intend to modify. It is placed little far away from the word or words it modifying, and because of that it is called a misplaced modifier.

    Sir,
    When I make sentences in 'past passive', sometimes I automatically add WAS.
    Examples
    1)I was invited. (Correct)
    2)I was played. (Wrong)
    Are there any tricks or any easy way to make sentence sometimes I make mistakes?
    How to identify and write? could do you please tell me the easy way?

    • @EnglishWithAshish
      @EnglishWithAshish  Před 4 lety +1

      Sorry for the late reply! You comment was in review for some reason.
      Answer:-
      It depends on the context. If the subject can take the passive verb logically, you can use the passive structure, but if it doesn't, don't use it. There's no rules for that. It needs to be understood by the context.
      Look at these sentences:
      • She is cooked.
      • My father is danced.
      These sentences do not make any sense, logically. And the active voice of these sentences is also not possible.
      • Pasta cooks her. (Active, not possible)
      • She is cooked by Pasta. (Passive)
      • Ron dances my father. (Active, not possible)
      • My father is danced by Ron. (Passive)

    Hello sir ,
    "Hukum chand sat on the veranda staring at the rain ."
    "The bearer was standing beside him
    looking equally frightened."
    Sir here are 'staring' and 'looking '
    Misplaced modifiers?
    Because 'looking' may modify both the words:the bearer and him.

    • @EnglishWithAshish
      @EnglishWithAshish  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, they may be misinterpreted. Using a comma before them make it clear that they are modifying the nouns sitting before them.
