  • Today on JD Cars we will be replacing the footwell module (FRM) on the 2007 BMW 3 Series. This process will apply to all BMW 3 series 2006-2012 (E90 / E92). I replaced the FRM in an effort to solve electrical issues, but I was unsuccessful in resolving them. The FRM will need to be recoded which is covered in tomorrow's video. Thanks for watching, please like and subscribe!

Thanks, for that video. I'm interested in buying a 07 328xi wagon...Seller claims it's the footwell module not allowing windows and some other electronics not to function. At the moment I'm just doing my due diligence before possibly buying the car.

    Hi JD Cars,
I had a similar problem with the electrical and it turned out to be the ignition switch, which was an $11 part. I didn't have an E90 at the time (It was a 986 Porsche Bosxter) but my research showed it's a fairly common problem. Little electrical issues like lights going off or blinking, etc. that are somehow caused by a loose or faulty ignition switch (Mine was actually loose yet worked fine). After swapping it everything was fine. Cheap part and a quick swap. So maybe that could be it? Worth looking into. Love your videos, thanks!

Why, exactly, would you bother polluting the comments section on this video with a 100% unrelated comment? Nobody who is researching this issue on their BMW 3 series gives a rats ass about your boxster.

I lost my footwell module when I replaced my battery. After battery change went to start car and had no power windows, turn signals, dashboard lights and some other stuff that the footwell module controls. It's a bmw fault issue. They had to extend the warranty on these to 10 years 150000 miles. But just disconnecting the battery can cause it.

If I was you, I would avoid connecting the battery and test module by module. Wait for all of the modules to be replaced and then give it some honey. A faulty module can overload another module or even damage the chipsets. :) Best of luck, waiting for another update ! :)

  • @afellowinnewengland6142

As a retired BMW tech I’m dumbfounded. Why would you replace expensive parts hoping to find the problem?! Troubleshoot and identify the problem and then replace the parts at fault! You can examine the computer codes for clues, but if you don’t have access you can send the modules out for inexpensive fault inspections. Folks don’t spend a fortune replacing modules and parts if you don’t know what you’re doing.

My 2008 335i coupe just started having electrical issues and went into SOS MODE 🤢 Windows do not roll down and no music. The windshield wipers stay on constantly with the key in and will not turn over at all. I'm currently saving to get it diagnosed after I buy a new radiator. Someone reset the codes for me and it did turn over and start for me, just to have the radiator blow on me about 5 minutes later... I have a nightmare on my hands now at this point! The last time it went to the shop it was 3000 for the water pump/ thermostat and battery and labor 😢

It ran GREAT before the computer issues. Oh and I forgot to add that the company I was working for didn't offer to help fix anything at all when it was their fault the roof gutters drained into my car with all the windows closed, it pushed through the sunroof and left about 3" of water in the floor 😣
