- The engine in my Lamborghini Espada is currently undergoing a full rebuild after it started losing cooling water when we were on the Lamborghini Espada 50th tour last September. Here in part 4, the components are back from cleaning and machining and Iain explains how we can make the engine closer to Miura spec. Watch Iain Tyrrell's new CZcams channel here • Lamborghini Miura S & ...

I think we've got very lucky with that bloke starting his own channel!
Hell, yeah!
I'll second that!
Every vid a joy ...
100%
Harry's channel is such a welcome relief from all the nouveau-riche 10 year olds running around buying Lamborghinis that have no appreciation for the history of the sports car and no real ability to describe what it's like to own and drive these cars beyond their exclamaing how cool they are.
22 minutes of automotive bliss.
Agreed
This chap really does know his spanners!
Yes a lot better than I do.....he wouldn't want me there... :-)
Scott Harker And wrenches.
@Pollywog he does know them BY NAME
This guy is a professor. Could listen to him all day long
2:05 The difference in valves between Maserati and Ferrari engines with Lamborghinis, he knows his stuff!
@Lord Rupert Lol how so?
I think the hollow stem is completely filled with Na. Heat from the valve head is conducted rapidly to the valve stem and thence to the valve guide in the cylinder head, which is water cooled. This was required in two valve high performance engines. Use of four valve heads decreases the specific valve heat loading.
Was Iain joking about when he said about when he started his career with Rolls Royce/Bentley he didn't use a torque wrench lol and if anyone walked in with one you'd be fired 😳
@@spacedust2270 Possibly not. I have heard that RR nuts and machine screws were so well made that hand torque with the appropriate swan neck ring spanner was all that was required. When the spanner just begins to flex, the nut or screw is just tight enough.
I will pay for a two weeks holiday working in this shop, with this gentleman. I very much fancy this instead of a beach resort.
He is great, another place in England iou might like to work on vacation is the Tank Museum in Bovinghon. Check out their work rebuilding tank engines on their CZcams channel 👍
Put my name down too!
A new Lambo engine rebuild video, Iain launches a channel, a huge Tory landslide and a big jump in the value of the pound. Days don't get much better than this. I enjoy all of Harry's videos (cars and farm), but this particular series has been exceptional. Sodium used in valve stems to dissipate heat - I had no idea. Iain is fascinating to listen to and I look forward to his channel very much.
Great result last night, onward and upward....
"Death rattle par excellence" lol superb sentence about broken Ferrari sodium valves :)
I liked that.
YOur exhaust valve loose in the cylinder aint gonna sound pretty.....
I'm not even that mechanically inclined but have been loving this series so far. The whole ambience of the workshop and all the love and knowledge on display from both of you, brilliant.
I'm repeatedly impressed by Iain's extreme Lamborghini geekery.
There aren't many channels I actually make time for and watch all the way through. Harry's is one of them.
That engine is like jewelry! Can't wait to see it back in the Espada!
I'm not mechanically-minded myself, but this series is fascinating and most enjoyable. Two real gentlemen, too. Sadly, an endangered species. Thank you.
They are the same like these old cars. Charismatic and with a heartful of soul!!
Don't give up hope, I'm skint but am an english gentleman at heart!
Ian has now his own channel. My life is now complete. Lovely
Another fine video. Mr. Tyrrell's knowledge is amazing. I encourage him to write a book. It would be the bible for all exotic car restorers.
My god, theres not another car channel as good as this. The detail, the language, no dramatisation, just pure knowledge. Thanks Harry.
Subscribed to Ians channel too.
This has been a fantastic series, absolutely loving it.
Great to see an owner drive a great car, and even better to see the rebuild. Thank you so much
It is not enough that Harry gives us this gems that his videos are, and now we also have a spinoff that has potential to be one of my favourites in youtube! Awesome
Thanks Harry! We now have two knowledgeable, charismatic gentleman to tune in to. Bloody brilliant
for me this video was priceless. Maybe i'm a geek. I was mesmerized by the explanation
I think this has been one of the most enjoyable series of videos I have ever seen. Bravo. And at the end of it all, the Espada will be started up - what a moment that will be.
Great two Gentlemen. It is so relaxing and fascinating to see that Car Channel. No fast Videocuts, no Timepressure, no Beers, no Chics, no Wheely Donuts and it works.
What great guy, Ian is. Absolutely impressed in the way he goes about his work and his knowledge. I worked shore based for a trawling company in Aberdeen back in the 70's who had two trawlers with Polar V12 main engines with sodium exhaust valves and they "dropped" a few valves over time. What a mess. New piston, liner, head, turbo and damage to other cylinders. Total strip down and a tow back from the fishing grounds.
The world needs more of you! Thank you Harry for keeping the level up!
Thank you all.....its a blessings ...
As a lamborghini nut since i was 8 years old, (I'm 40 now), this channel is pure gold! I love it!
So enjoying this mini-series on the Espada. I think the combined auto-knowledge of both Iain and Harry exceeds Google! An absolute joy to listen to these gentlemen. Subscribed already to Iain’s new channel. Wish him good luck with the new venture.
That early XJS looks lovely.
My best viewing of the 'Harry's garage' series re the rebuild of his engine, I've learnt so much just by watching these two gents talking.
Am I the only one that has been waiting for another update on this project? Great series!
Daniel Schmidt no!
I doubt it very much!
Listening to intelligent people talking is so refreshing. In an era of flat out rubbish I think people will appreciate it more than ever. Thank you.
I agree totally!! Thanks for this comment!
I could listen to these two talk all day about these cars. Fantastic! I was waiting for the comment about prior visit monsoon. 👍
Tyrrell's Classic Workshop on CZcams - YES!
22 minutes goes fast , so glad the wizard has created a channel for us to binge on
Great stuff ! Whole series best all year !
Good to see that Mr Tyrrell reads the comments section! and went with the recommended ceramic coating on the exhaust manifolds.
Just really great Harry. I could watch you and Iain talk all day long.
Engineering and Art combined, that's how it looks like. There are many great 2+2 cars to choose, but I think this is my favorite!
I thought Harry was the man but so is Iain Tyrrell. The best 22 minutes viewing in some time.
I've been waiting impatiently for this installment!
This is just excellent stuff! So much knowledge, no irritating music, just talking! Love it!! :)
Just watched the film about the Miura auction on the german grip channel. Now the yellow beauty is in the same workshop as Harry's Lambo. Just great stuff!
It's been a lot of fun watching these videos. As an American enthusiasts, I rarely get a chance to even see cars like this. Let alone see what's involved in it's resurrection. So many things to consider. So many things to wear out and need replacing lest one does severe destruction. And to understand what's involved in the purchase and ownership of a car like this. I've been watching these out of order. This doesn't seem to matter as one is as enjoyable as the last.
Love this sort of presentation instead of just burning donuts and spitting out performance facts.
Thank god for Harry, this guy is a proper automotive expert.
Well that’s made my day! And Ian’s new CZcams channel. Once I have finished watching this I will subscribe. Harry, I love your content but this series with Ian is wonderful, more please!
Harry, great video as always, facsinating to see the process and how easily Iain can talk you into little tweaks and upgrades! Thanks for talking Iain into starting his own channel as well - just watched the first episode and it is great to be able to watch a series like this without the presenter screaming at you about the latest crisis that they are facing. Long may it continue
With the amount of knowledge and info these two have you could write a book on Lamborghini history.
Well done Harry getting the Tyrrell channel started. Now in my top 3. He is so interesting explaining things. Mine of information
My good friend is a physics professor. He once took me to Fermi Lab outside of Chicago. The particle collector on the super collider was taken apart. I wanted to quit my job, move there, sleep on a cot and make coffee for those folks. It was awe inspiring. I feel the same way about Ian.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video Harry. Tq so much for posting. Regards from Malaysia.
Just reading comments and clicking thumbs up everywhere, these videos are just so good, they evoke great positive commentary.
" It's a horn- when you get to the rev limiter". LMAO. Brilliant.
like the rx7!
If I ever scrap enough money together to buy a old V12 Lambo I'll buy one with a knackered engine and get Iain to rebuild/ mod it for me............. Please lottery tickets make this dream come true 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 loving these videos Harry 👌
Amazing, Ian has all these measurements in his mind, so and so many millimeters!
Probably the most enjoyable series of videos I have seen on YT. Clearly classic car ownership is a real labour of love! We are so lucky to have the geniuses!
Perfect. Anything less than this kind of perfection wouldn't be doing a car like this justice.
I could watch these all day.
Such a pleasure to watch the rebuild, cannot wait to see the car finished and hopefully a road trip to the Swiss alps.
Thanks for prodding Ian to start his own channel. You two are fantastic too watch!
Just love this V12 build thread,, cant wait to hear it at 8K...
What a complete joy to immerse oneself in exotic Italian engineering and to totally escape from the world of politics. 21 1/2 minutes of bliss! Thank you! Now, I’m going to watch Iain’s video, and I know beforehand that it’s going to be another deep joy to watch!😋
Man, I have no words, that professional is like a wizard
Two big boys with big boy’s toys.
Excellent stuff, I’ve enjoyed every second of this video and other videos too.
Thank you for posting.
Amazing. That workshop is Paradise.
Out of all the CZcamsrs I watch on CZcams I enjoy Harry’s content the most...... it appeals to the enthusiast and engineer in me...... Absolutely Love the channel and look forward to the new content......
Wonderful to see the progress and Iain’s expertise.
Thanks for sharing gents
👍👍
Brilliant stuff. I could listen to these chaps all day!
It’s a work of art what Tyrell do there. They have a CZcams channel you say, they got a subscriber
Love these engine rebuilds. I've had a few done myself. Amazing what the guys do. Got a 65 Cooper in being rebuilt at the moment. I was playing with valves myself last week.
Love all the detail on the engine, cam lift, valve spring force etc. Just a great series on the Espada.
This is pure gold, Harry.
Two of the very best channels on YT.
These two guys are fantastic together! So much passion and knowledge.
I wish I could wind the clock back 30 years and serve an apprenticeship with this chap, his knowledge and experience is awe-inspiring. That red XJ-S in the background looks pretty special too. Like good wine and attractive women, old Jags get better and better with age. Didn't Gambit in The New Avengers have an early XJ-S in red, or was his yellow? My memory is letting me down a bit. I remember the yellow Rover 3500 Steed drove, and the dark green Broadspeed XJ-C with the utterly fabulous Gene Hunt Wheelarches. The car's of my childhood are so much more appealing than today's offerings. I wonder which cars of today our children will be hankering after in another 30 years though.
Popcorn ready, love these rebuild films.
I’ve been waiting for this update! Thank you.
Excellent as always, absolutely love Iain's incisive knowledge of classic Lamborghinis
Again Brilliant chat between Iain and yourself.... Fantastic and awesome to know Iain has started his own channel
Just got done rewatching part 2 and 3. Perfect timing.
Thank you Harry for this episode!
I’ve loved watching this mini series so far. So interesting.
These are absolutely brilliant, the engine looks brand new and run like new. Fascinating guy.
Stunning! So glad people like Harry exist in being custodians of our history and preserving it for future generations, this is so important.
Lovely Christmas present, this installment.
I could listen to both gentlemen all day. That shop is to die for, xand the cars inside are simply magnificent. Great craftsmanship and attention to detail. Watching this series has motivated me to plod along on my restoration projects. The final result will be a spectacular Espada. Cheers
Beautiful work, and such great insight into the inner workings of the mythical miura... cheers Harry...
Really enjoying this series. Thank you for bringing it to us all 👍👍
I'm loving this series, thanks. Brave chopping the roof but it will add a new dimension to your enjoyment of the car. I've always had a soft spot for 4 seater Italian exotica. If only I could go back twenty or thirty years with a bag full of cash.
Superb
Great updates cant wait to see it back together
I grew up in the 1970s reading Road & Track magazine. While kids in my school were reading Hot Rod and dreaming about the latest Camaro I was the weird kid dreaming about Ghibli’s, Miura’s, Daytona’s, Alfa’s, Citroen’s, Lotus’s, etc. Espada, Jarama, Uracco/Jalpa were all cool cars. It bugs me that so many people throw shade at them because all they can identity Lamborghini with is the Miura and Countach/Diablo/Murcielago/Aventador. I think the Espada is fantastic. Nice that you’re giving one some love. Kudos.
I love this run of video your doing with this rebuild . It's so good to listen to an expert explain all this I'm totally fascinated
Great video as always Harry. And now we have something else to look forward to on a regular basis. Eagerly awaiting the first instalment.
Excellent Channels from both guys. I have been ill lately these guys have got me through some trying times. Thanks to both of you. Cheers Barry,
This is an excellent series. The detail is fantastic! Keep it up!
After watching Ian videos many times , I realized most of his dialogue is off Q cards, look at what his eyes are doing. He is still the best car whisperer ever
Here’s a new one for you... I am coming to you from Ian’s channel. Both are now on my “never miss” list.
Love these vids Harry, thanks for sharing. Your chap their really knows his stuff and it’s fascinating to watch 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another great video. Can't help but get a twitch on over that red XJ-S in the background. I love those early XJ-S'.
I have been waiting for this episode for what
feels like an eternity. Oh Joy!
A very proper rebuild, as expected by Harry.
