Rally raid bash plate for the CB500X

- In this video I mount the bash plate from Rally Raid on my 2020 Honda CB500X.
I detail the steps necessary to fit all the parts to the bike, and I give my first impressions of the product.

It looks good and appears substantial. I have T-Rex skid plate on my 2022 CB500X in the US, it also extends to the front of the exhausts' pipes. It has a removable plate to allow access to the oil filter.
Very good, if not the best, engine guard for the CB500X. The only downside I see is that you can’t have both this guard and a center stand, and it’s hard to choose between one and the other.

La photo, le script, le son, la musique, le ton... TOUT est parfait et agréable à regarder (et mon anglais s'améliore avec chaque vidéo 😊). J'ai commandé ma CB500X il y a 1 semaine, je passe le plateau bientôt (je suis né en 1960...) je ne monterai probablement pas cet accessoire (mais les pare-mains peut-être).

Je recommande vivement les pare-mains, pour plusieurs raisons : ça protège les leviers et les mains des chutes (en tout-terrain ou sur route), et ça protège un peu du froid et de la pluie. En fait, on sent vraiment la différence au niveau du vent quand il fait moins de 10 °C.
Et aussi ça rend le look un peu plus baroudeur :)

Purchased T-Rex skid plate and crash bars. They are expensive but far better. I did purchase Rally Raid suspension and wheels. Also some of their products. Thus made the 500x heavier and about 2" tall taller. This all works great. I 182 cm tall and 95 if. I go on month long backcountry trips and camp most of the time.
Good call on the Rally Raid suspension and wheels ! It must be a breeze off-road !
For the T-Rex plate and crash bars, I don't think I was aware they even existed when I made my decision to get the Rally Raid bash plate.
In what ways do you find the T-Rex option better ?
@@jerometabeaud9400 It's a heavier plate and comes up in the front to cover the header pipes. Problem is that it's 13 lbs vs 5.5 lbs with the RR plate. Also might rub on front tire under heavy braking or suspension hits. See czcams.com/video/D2jrB3tlndc/video.html

I think that this combo is pretty good as it is. But if you find separate components that seem better for your use of the bike, then go with that ;)
The second I removed one of the bolts I would have lost the bolt, the tool, the skid plate and the bike in those leaves and never found them again.
Very good protection for cb500x but it very expensive
It is indeed quite expensive, but it seems to be one of the more sturdy options. But I'll say that some protection is better than no protection at all, so if you can spare some money, you should definitely try to get your hands on a cheaper bash plate.
@@Victor-vf1fi It's currently listed at 292 euros with VAT, and if you get it delivered in the EU it's another 70 euros or so for import fees...
The price fluctuates a bit it seems.
@@jerometabeaud9400 It is expensive but I can say from my experience that it really protects your bike. I dropped my bike 3 times on my last off-road trip and no scratches what so ever. I am saying this because those “crash bars” that are on the side of the plate are really doing the job. My plate took a lot of hits on this off road trip and protected my bike the way that supposed to do.
careful with cheaper plates. Almost all the other plates use the engine block mounts that could be damaged if you hit something hard. The RR plate uses frame mounting...much more secure.
Hm does not look good at all, reduced ground clearance a lot (15-20mm for sure?), you will be hitting things that stock bike had no trouble going over, and that way you could damage the bike construction, bolt points. looks a bit ugly/heavy. Maybe some lightweight skid/splash protection is better, just to deflect rocks and stuff.
Just proves the point this bike is not ment to go where dual sports go/where you need such strong bash plate. You have to chose between minimum acceptable ground clearance or having good protection while needing it more because now you hit stuff more. My choice would be easy gravel roads/no protection needed, with either nothing or some light rocks deflector type plate.
@@breakM exactly some simple skid plate like motec is fine or even without anything, just be more careful not to bottom it somewhere hard... 180mm clearance is not too bad for most of the trails... little jump here and there is also fine...
If you stick to light gravel roads, then a simple and lightweight plastic bashplate will probably do, I agree.
This bash plate reduces the ground clearance by at least 20 mm, so it's a bummer.
But I wanted something that could really take a beating, and also protects the oil filter on the front end. Most bash plates that I looked at were only protecting the bottom of the engine, but when gravel flies off the front wheel, it usually hits right where the oil filter is, and much less on the bottom parts of the engine.
