Oh yeah. That shook me. It actually hit me really fucking hard When Odysseus's mom started singing, I damn near started crying. When a song can do THAT is when Jorge and the rest of the Epic cast deserves a grammy.
9 minutes and you’re already one of the top results when searching the underworld animatics hope this blows up soon it looks really good and envisions the song nicely
Your rendition of the spirits just being like memories (that's the vibe I get at least) is SO heartbreaking because it's not even like it's them there talking to ody it's just him watching as those memories float by. Also the part where ody's mom is just looking at the portrait of him is so heartbreaking I cannot. Edit: I also just want to say this is the first Underworld animatic that gave me chills and almost made me full on cry 😭
... anyone else struck by just how amazing chill Hades is with allowing the crew to just come on into the underworld and then leave with somewhat little hassle?
This might be my favorite Underworld Animatic because it nails the vocal transition from "Bye mom." To "ALLL I HEAR ARE SCREAAAMS!" perfectly capturing Odysseus bellowing his sorrow and frustration out into the River Styx
Drawing the souls like floating memories rather than being there in person makes the whole thing even more emotional for me. Odysseus is forced to remember his friend and his mother, while they didn't even notice Oysseus. It's like they dream peacefully while Odyseus is reminded that he will never be able to say goodbye to them again. -In every other version it felt like he had at least one last chance to say goodbye in the underworld, which made their death less meaningful to me
I really appreciate the way you animated "I took too long." It's a realization. It's an admission. It's suddenly being aware that you weren't there and life ran its course, and there's no making it up anymore because. She's gone. And she died thinking of you, while your mind was hundreds of miles away in the war you were fighting in. You never think it can happen, never question your loved one's mortality until something happens to make you do so. Odysseus is hit hard and it shows. Thank you.
You absolutely NAILED 3:45 ! I was kinda worried it'd be anti-climactic, since its hard to make a such a monumental climax to the song, but the expression and everything was perfect. Great animatic!
I really love how you showed that Odysseus and his men have aged because of how long they've been out at sea!! No one really shows that in their animations, i mean it took him like 20 years to get back home and he still looks young? Unrealistic lol but you did an amazing job!!!!
are you kidding me??? the transitions!! the baby!! whaaat??? ok excuse me while I leave it on loop for a couple of hours... you owe us some drawings of happy ody after this btw
This animatic was basically how I imagined this song already. Esspecially with thr part with his mom, you did an amazing job! Keep up the amazing work!
These transitions and atmosphere are just so on point. Also the fact that while the death of so many of his men have been a consistent torment on his mind, its his own mother that clearly breaks him down. In those few moments he was a man, he was a son missing his mom.
This animatic broke my heart and put the pieces in a woodchipper and then got those pieces and doused them in oil and then cooked them until they were charred pieces of ash and then scattered them over an ocean of my tears
This made me cry just as much as I did when I listened to the song for the first time, the best animatic I've seen for this song!!! So many details that bring everything together, your skills are incredible!
Dude this is by far the most emotional song in act 1 bro. Odysseus sees Polites and he is actually glad to see him. When he sees Antecleas he realizes that he was gone for so long that his mother killed herself out of grief and how she thought Odysseus was dead. No joke. This is by far the most tearjerking song of all time. I have a feeling that if there was a way for you to see your loved ones for one final time long after they've passed, it would be a lot more heart-wrenching. Homer knew what he was doing when he wrote the Odyssey. Jay knew what he was doing when he wrote this song. and Jay knows what he's doing when he's writing Epic. He knows how to make songs happy, sad, aggressive, and of mix of the three.
God, the whole bit with his mom makes me cry. Forgive me for venting, but I lost my granny last August, and this scene just hits so close to home for me. It’s just so sad yet so beautifully done. Thank you
The Polites part really makes the chills hit for me and its drawn so beautifully here. I dont know what the intent for it is, but I like to think its Polites still trying to support Odyessus.
What seperates your animation compared to many others I’ve watched are the fact that your animation feels more “Lively”. There’s no “freeze” in frames, frame by frame there are subtle movements, kinda reminds me of Stop-Motion! An amazing job cause You made me cry each time Politis & his Mother scene came up 🥺
Wooow I really like how the parts of Polites, the crew's spirits and the whole sequence of Odysseus's mom were postrayed and animated Amazing animatic!
Wow. What an emotional rollercoaster🥹you captured these moments so well, I was already tearing up when polities sang, but when he realized he took too long, damn that hit hard.
I already knew the Epic and Myths well, but the music makes it hurt so much. Then i start looking up anaimatics and now I start crying the second I hear Polites voice 😭
I was not expecting to see the big man Hades( appear for a split moment. Makes sense though, he is more than likely aware of them entering Hades despite not making an appearance in the story. I mean if that is him lol
And this animatic is what made me realize that he didn't know his mother had died. He knew Polites was dead, so he was just happy to see his friend again. But he said "It can't be" when he heard his mother. And the realization at "I took too long" sends this home. He didn't *know* that his mother had died. If I"m wrong about this, I'm sorry, I haven't watched EPIC before.
Polites in Epic the Musical left such a big impact on me. His character as Epic portrays him is so much more profound than the book. It hurt me so much when I realized he was the one that died with the Cyclops, and called for Odysseus, and then sang in the "Underworld". I also love his piece, "Open Arms". You portrayed him so well too.
I want there to be a scene were you can see the silhouettes of Hades and Persephone with sad looks on their faces. Knowing everything Ody has went through.
Haha, the ghost look like sperm
I KNEW IT

Jorge when he saw people lose their mental state from the I took too long: 😈 just as I planned
The fuckin breakdown at “I took too long…” killed me man
It hits hard. Not only he lost so many men. Even if he comes back now, everything is changed
As of writing this, I'm at work, I almost cried in front of everyone.
Oh you NAILED the part transition between the Infant to Polites to his Mom. omg. Anticleas part especially made me tear up
first like.. 10 times I heard the song I was on the verge of a breakdown at her part 😭😭

"I took to long" man that realization hit SO hard. how he's just broken and even in death, she's still trying to comfort him. absolutely BEAUTIFUL
Odysseus looked so happy when he saw Polites 😭😭😭😭
And then so heartbroken when he vanished 😭💔
Penelope: Odysseus my love you have finally returned
Polities: uhm about that
He saw him at peace

The first animator that added the infant and I love it so much chills

He tends to do it a lot in the mythology. It's great :D

Seeing Anticlea's part on Mother's Day is another level 😭
The way his mom's spirit floated around him so tenderly broke the dam and got me sobbing 😭
This is amazing! I’ve seen a lot of Underworld animatics but yours is my favorite so far. Odie’s face when he saw Polites 😭
I’m not going to lie, animatic or not, I actually start crying when Polities’s part is sung 😭

I love the portal into the Underworld! And the way he smiled when he saw Polites nooo

This was amazing. Odysseus looks so vulnerable I love the angst. Adding a memory of his younger self with his mom made that part hit even harder.
