Interesting how these Americans all dress like Scots, wearing kilts and playing the pipes etc. Hahaha am Scottish and never knew such appreciation (appropriation) existed in the world. Hahaha

What is interesting is how you don’t know why why bagpipes are played for fallen firefighters. Maybe you should catch up on your history James.

Irish people were discriminated against in early US history and many Irish immigrants were forced to take dangerous jobs instead of normal, safe jobs since people didn't want to hire them. Since firefighting was so dangerous, especially since this was the 1800-1900s and modern equipment didn't exist, many of the immigrant firefighters died. Traditional Irish funerals were held by their communities to honor them, which include pipes and drums honors, and we've carried on that tradition to this day.

It’s because many Americans are of Scottish decent in the south and Irish decent in the north and that many of our ancestors were firefighters when they came to the country long ago. Back then police and fire services were jobs no one wanted yet they were always taken by hard working Scottish and Irish immigrants. Over time bagpipes became more a tradition with the police and fire service in the United States and today they’re often played at funerals of police, fire, and service members those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country and local communities.
