    You can see both the physical pain and disappointment in his face when he realized "this is it - I just can't do it anymore." Sad, but he gave us such great moments in skating. He is definitely my favorite skater of all time.

      his Quads and every single movement felt complete and without hesistation. this is why i love this guy. so sad to see him retire. Hopefully, if my parents let me, i will be going to teachers school for college so i can teach others the beauty of skating. I'm still in training to be a skater myself too.

    I watched all his competitions at the Olympics since 2002, then the gold at 2006, I cried when they took his gold medal in Vancouver, I saw the rutine in team event at Sochi... And then, my heart broke when he finally retire after the back injury.
    He is the best, as much as it hurts me, that day I realize that he had to take care of his health more than another medal.
    I love him. He's the #1.

    The only bad thing about Skating is how short their career is. Dance of any type is hard on the body. But I'm glad he had a successful career.

      Oh ALL the above ^^^ if one is careful, dancers can dance into their late 30’s if their lucky, specifically ballerinas can go into early 40’s, if they’re REEAALLYYY careful and lucky, Wendy Whelan proved it was possible, but gymnasts and skaters...there’s not a single one can I think of that competed past 30 years old... and accept for Pluskenko obviously, he was 31 in Sochi

    He's classy and has sense of humour.I always liked his personality. And no, he's not arrogant contrary to what this lady says in the video. He was just self confident and he knew he was the best on ice.

      Russia had a single skater in men at those Olympics. So only one man had to do both team and single. Russian Federation chose Plushenko. I would have sent Voronov or Menshov. Plushy was great but he was too old and rusty. In he team event he was over scored. The real number 1 in the team (singles) was Julia Lipniskaya.

    When I was a kid I use to watch figure skating with my mum After she passed away I found I just couldn't watch anything we had watched together, it was just too painful. Recently I happened across the anime Yuri on Ice. And yes I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about that show. I'm an artist and actually found the anime very beautiful, plus it did indeed rekindle the love I had for figure skating. After finishing the show I got on here and looked up old Scott Hamilton videos because he was always one of my mums favorites. I watched a few of his performances and realized I was smiling and happy. My old memories are no longer painful. I starting to think about it and realized I knew nothing of ice skating since I stopped watching it with my mum. So the first video that popped up was Nathan Chen's free skate at the 2017 US Figure Skating Championships. Then I watched Yuzuru Hanyu's 2014 Olympic free skate performance, which then lead me here. Watching all of these talented people makes me wish I had stayed watching figure skating. Evgeni Plushenko is amazing to watch, very breathtaking. I'm so glad the internet makes it possible to watch past performances. I really believe my mum would have loved Evgeni Plushenko.

    He deserved gold in 2010...whenever I see Lysacek, I just wanna kick his face in..Plushenko destroyed his body for the quads and the isu pays no attention...I don't understand Russia, when they have extremely amazing talent, they put no effort into politicking but with mediocre talent they use politics so much that those skaters get WRs in every single outing. I think they thought they didn't need politics with real talent. Anyway, I think it was a good thing he didn't compete in the individual event for Sochi, otherwise he would have won undeservedly and that would've tarnished his glorious legacy.

      Eliwaii Torres If you're here thanks to that, good for you, welcome to the world of figure skating. But please recognize that he is a legend in figure skating who had many fans since possibly before you were even born, don't disrespect that legacy by saying people are only here thanks to some anime.

      angedejeudi I am not disrespecting anyone, I'm sorry if you misunderstood. But lets be real, most of the people that are watching these videos came from viewing Yuri on Ice.

      Eliwaii Torres well not exactly 'most' people. Figure skating had/has many fans before Yuri on ice, we appreciate that you have came and enjoyed watching figure skating but please respect that a lot of people are here through their love for figure skating rather than Yuri on ice, thank you :)

      Do you really think that if he was healthy he would have skate worse than Hanyu or Chan?

    • @fandreea
      @fandreea Před 10 lety +10

      Yes, his doctors said, that the broken screw could have sectioned the spinal cord and even kill him right there, on the ice. When they opened him, they were shocked. That bolt was made from a titanium alloy, strong enough for a spaceship and broke from a "simple" tripple axel. I cannot imagine what a guad does to the spine and knees of those skaters. The shock to their bodies is tremendous. He did the right thing by not pushing it further.

      Dilan Aktepe
      Yeah, it was for the best. He said later, that he was never so affraid before in his life than in the moment he felt that bolt snapping in his spine...and the pain was agonizing. I'm so happy that he fully recovered and he is touring again with his show. He jumps tripples again and quads also. I don't know if he is going to compete again, but as long as he is healthy, I enjoy seing him in shows.
