My 1st OFFICIAL 5KM Race - NOT PARKRUN!

- This week I attended the Hasty Hare 5KM Race at Battersea Park seeking to beat my 17:36 PB and maybe even my brothers 17:31 PB.
It was my first ever 5KM race that wasn't a Parkrun and with SO MANY rapid runners around it was somewhat of a daunting experience.

Yay! I'm Pink X! Like you, I was feeling good until we got to the 1st gate towards the end of the 1st lap and then hung on for dear life thereafter! We were on for about 17 flat. We will get it soon :-)
Ah amazing haha! We were flying along without a care in the world - you literally got exactly my brother's PB, if only I could have stayed with ya! As you say, we shall smash through to 17 flat soon 😎

A couple of local Hastings AC are pacing their friend to 17:30 at parkrun tomorrow. Ideal opportunity to tuck in and smash that PB. Look out for the blue vests at the front. Will (long hair and beard) and Grace are the pacers. Good luck.

Brilliant run mate ! I was a little up the road in the same race, that was a tough old day wasnt it 🤣 - you weren't alone with the bad maths, I thought I'd missed my goal by a long shot, decided to bring it home comfortably and missed the goal by 4 seconds 🥲

Well done m8. I've got a personal target to run a sub 18 minute 5k this year. I've ran a couple of 5k races this year in 18:10 and 18:02 and I've ran 17:49 at parkrun. I'm running Newcastle 5k Quayside 7/8 which should have a fast field.

Always enjoy finding a bit of footage, so thanks for that. Great time. I held on for a 17.44 which will do for this point in time.

@@CrownMyRun In hindsight a bit too lax in kms 3 and 4, but easy to say that after the event isn't it! Trying not to even remember how I put a 3.12 km in here back in the day for sub 17 fare!

That's always a killer when you miss a PB by such a narrow margin Jody , especially when you put in max effort🥵 you will do it next time though. I read the results and first thought it said you were over 50, then saw it was a U and not a V ! 🤣

I was there too, but it was a bit too hot for me! I was hoping to be sub-20 (last year I ran 19:29 in the equivalent race), but only managed 20:12 this year...

Lesson there young Mills. Run the race, beat as many people as you cen then worry about the time later. Never rely on markers or warches being accurate in-race.
It was indeed a big lesson *hopefully* learned haha. I'm sure I'll make the mistake again at some point but hopefully more often I'll race the race I'm in as you say!

Lots of fast cats out there, how on earth can 146 people run quicker than 17:38 . That would be a podium at most parkruns.
Yeah, it was crazy. Especially as the next day there was a separate event for sub 16 5kers!

I'm absolutely not an expert, but maybe do 4minute repeats instead of 1km repeats. Minor tweak but a bit more time at top end of heart rate (takes about 2 mins to get higher).
