    I saw this one a while back and was thinking about upgrading my aging Synology DiskStation. Looks nice. I like the 2.5G connection.

    Kettle style plug is actually IEC. IEC connector is the common name for the set of thirteen power line connectors. They are defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) specification IEC 60320, and these IEC connectors are widely used for the power connections on electrical and electronic equipment.

    Great video,always enjoy the NAS one, thanks Mike. I used to work on large NAS in my data centre days. Still find strange you can buy a NAS with only 2 disks, as for me the norm was working on Netapp units with disks in 10s. Then again who wants a 4u 19 inch enclosures under the stairs at home.

      exactly these are designed for SOHO use with the lower priced ones more aimed at the HO rather SO

    Very nice indeed, especially the 2.5Gbps transfer speeds. I use a Asustor NAS for my work stuff which has no trouble transferring large files over ethernet but I found it struggling a little with some of the video content on there sometimes so the extra bandwidth might be the way forward for me. Thanks for the video Mike and Kath.

    Interesting review especially like you say for keeping your data safe and accessible. Still not convinced we would be better off media wise due to streaming services. I do however use a 2.5^ hdd for photo backups when I remember to use it lol Think its the cost versus minimal usage that sways me 2bh. Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍

      i am the same, for media streaming i will often just head over to Amazon Prime, that is about all i watch to be honest, but for my data and family PC backups the NAS is by far the best way to do it

    Hi Mike, many thanks for reviewing this and all of the other products you have featured.
    Is this a brand new product release or just the first time that you have reviewed it?
    I am looking for my first NAS in the bracket of £200 - £300.
    Of all the NAS devices that you have experience of, what would be your ultimate choice?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +1

      this is relatively new to the market been out a few months at the most. Choosing a NAS is hard work as there are so many options and often there are things you didn't think you want to do but later you want to.
      I would first think about the things you definitely need to do. then list the maybe things, and then the definitely not.
      this will give you or me a clearer idea of the storage and RAM and outputs you might need.
      For me my main thing is data backups and content storage. I am not really bothered about media streaming so for me an HDMI output or onboard graphics processor isn't important but data transfer speeds are valuable for quick and easy backups.
      Personally depending on the size and number of PCs to be backing up, look at a 4 bay NAS to grow into. 2 bays are an excellent place to start and for the majority of people are more than enough. but due to the bays there will be a storage size limitation and also larger drives are really expensive, so spreading the data over multiple disks can bring the costs down.
      If you want to discuss this is more detail either email or drop into the Discord chat and we can try and work out what might suit you needs and budget

    I am trying to choose between Synology 2 bay NAS DiskStation DS220+ and Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro AS3302T. I want to mainly use NAS to backup photos & videos, and also stream them later. Anyone got any suggestions?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před rokem +1

      the as3302t is arguably more powerful but the synology software is pretty slick. also depends on how you want to get your devices to backup, asustor does a good job but not as nice for multiple users as active backup for business on synology
