    I run Linux on all of my computers. I started running a NAS (actually two of them an Asustor and a home built with Open Media Vault) I also have five different computers that I use regularly. I love the fact that I just save anything items I'm working on with any of the computers, to the NAS and the item is immediately available on any of the computers. Also, it automatically creates redundancy for all of my files. It also makes a separate back-up to an external hard drive on a daily basis. And, best of all, if I ever want to change my operating system, there is no need to back up and restore my files. I just connect my new OS to my NAS, and all of my files are just where I left them.

    Nice video. I’d highly recommend filling that second drive bay and setting up raid though. You’ll be feeling the pain if that single drive goes down. That was a Very thorough look into the NAS👍

      agreed, but I'm willing to make the trade off! the files are not mission critical and I will do offsite backups with my now empty external drives! ty

    I've been looking for a decent NAS enclosure for a few weeks. I actually ordered this a few hours ago and checked out your video afterwards to make sure my logic to purchase this model was sound. Seems like I've made a good choice. Btw, not a fan of WD drives. I've instead gone for the Toshiba NAS N300. Thanks for your review.

    Hey thank you for the indepth look. I'm new to nas systems but took the leap because of your video. Looking to use it for personal storage between my wife and i which will also be our WFH storage. We use Mac OS, is it cool if you did a run down on how to map drives for mac so we can access the drives away from home using the SShfs protocol?

    great video. i was in the same place as you and doing the same thing. I have a few ext usb storage "devices", lol. Yes everyone was over the moon about the big name brands and the "ace a store" (i heard that how to say it) was heads and shoulders above on the hd side. all the review stated the sw was not up to par. I think it works well. caching nvme drive x2 is better that just about anything else out there.

    To eliminate HDD noise from large capacity drive activity. First remove the outer plastic casing & leave off, then place the device on its side so that the drives operate horizontal as opposed vertical. Keep in a place with plenty of space around it out of direct sunlight. Place antivibration foam underneath to stop vibration to wooden TV stands. Bingo you will only hear the drives operating at about 9-10 dB`s. Hope this is helpful 🙂

    That WD My Cloud device is not an external drive, though; that's a competing NAS, actually.
    As a matter of fact, I've been using one for the past 7 years now and am thinking of upgrading to this very Asustor (gen 2) you're reviewing.

      @luistavares7047 Před měsícem

      Qnap has a better software side, and Asustor has a better Hardware side (in some cases, depends on what you need). I went to a AS5304T and it was marvelouse. Good software and great hardware specs for things you cant image do with it. Go for Asustor.

  • @luistavares7047
    @luistavares7047 Před měsícem

    You still with 1 HDD only? If you data is important to you, you should use 2 HDD in Raid1 (minimum) each one HDD mirror the other in case of one of them fail (and will fail). Another suggestion of everyone is to get a 4 bay NAS, because future expansion and the limitation of 2 bays. Asustor need to mature his OS but its in the good way (ADM 5 is in the way) cheers
