My Grandma lived in College Avenue, Formby. I used to love going to see her. We lived in Bishop’s Stortford Hertfordshire and the journey was also part of the excitement. I love Formby for all the magical memories I hold.
There were was the Riverside ocean liner terminal at the Pier Head. There was also Woodside terminal station in Birkenhead. DfT wanted to get rid of expensive to maintain terminal buildings. So they put all long haul trains at one station, Lime St, demolishing Central high Level, Exchange, Woodside and Riverside. All the Liverpool region would access Lime St by a convenient metro. The Northern Line created a north-south crossrail. The design was bad, with north and south Liverpool not having direct access to Lime St. One _large_ multi-platform interchange underground station could have been under Williamson Square with a passenger pedestrian link to Lime St. The Northern Line could pass through the station. The Wirral line could pass through this station running onto the Waterloo tunnel to Edge Hill then onwards to St.Helens/Wigan creating and east-west crossrail. The large station could have exit points all around the station for ease of access from many points in the city centre. This would have been cheaper and far, far better. The east-west crossrail line could take people from the Wirral right into east Liverpool and onwards to Wigan. Someone in Huyton could work at Birkenhead Docks by taking just one train. The only good point about the Wirral Line loop is that there is only one terminating point at each branch in The Wirral.
I doubt I could go from Central to Lime Street in 5 minutes! Especially not platform to platform. But a great little vid that really improved my understanding of the city centre system. I use it a couple of times a week.
@@DIEMLtdTV is it possible to do one about the dream of the Liverpool tube and it would be great to hear and see what you think about the Blackpool -southport service direct, they are in a Liverpool tube map 2030 🙂
@@JosephRawsthorne31 Got another Liverpool transport system video going live in a couple of weeks and yes, I've got in production a video possible future lines.
Or just stay on the northern line train from Liverpool central and go to moorfields then go down to Wirral line and then the next station from the is liverpool lime street
It's a state of mind whether you are or not, so it's up to you. I'm from Liverpool and don't always identify with the term especially the more negative stereotypes!

The Williamson Square idea is a good one.

It probably would have been cheaper as well.
You can go direct from central to lime St without changing! Jump on a new Brighton train stay on till it gets back to lime st
Just quite inconvenient
@@ekvedrek nice ride though
If you've got a spare couple of hours!!!

Brilliant video. Look forward to future videos on same subject.
Thanks very much, it is appreciated. By a huge coincidence there's another Merseyrail video landing next Friday!

Depends if you about to miss the last train from Central as there were delays on the WCML!
4:09 hah jeez even the dot matrix boards were just as excited as the british them selves
Yes, the board did make me smile. It was for the Football World Cup (which England of course didn't win!)
There was gonna be another one but funding went completely awkward
I read tales of an outer loop line.
good video!
Thank you
great vid
Thank you
Are you from Leigh?
I am not.
I love to see how the other city loops would make up a new Merseyrail line 🙂
....in production Joseph!

Never thought of that but quicker to walk I would've thought. However with a lot of luggage that might be easier.
is Southport in Liverpool
Southport is in the Liverpool City Region and also Merseyside, but not in the City of Liverpool.
@@DIEMLtdTV that literally makes no sense but keep up the good vids. I’m from Southport and just want to know if I’m truly a scouser
