My Grandma lived in College Avenue, Formby. I used to love going to see her. We lived in Bishop’s Stortford Hertfordshire and the journey was also part of the excitement. I love Formby for all the magical memories I hold.

There were was the Riverside ocean liner terminal at the Pier Head. There was also Woodside terminal station in Birkenhead. DfT wanted to get rid of expensive to maintain terminal buildings. So they put all long haul trains at one station, Lime St, demolishing Central high Level, Exchange, Woodside and Riverside. All the Liverpool region would access Lime St by a convenient metro.
The Northern Line created a north-south crossrail.
The design was bad, with north and south Liverpool not having direct access to Lime St. One _large_ multi-platform interchange underground station could have been under Williamson Square with a passenger pedestrian link to Lime St. The Northern Line could pass through the station. The Wirral line could pass through this station running onto the Waterloo tunnel to Edge Hill then onwards to St.Helens/Wigan creating and east-west crossrail. The large station could have exit points all around the station for ease of access from many points in the city centre.
This would have been cheaper and far, far better. The east-west crossrail line could take people from the Wirral right into east Liverpool and onwards to Wigan. Someone in Huyton could work at Birkenhead Docks by taking just one train. The only good point about the Wirral Line loop is that there is only one terminating point at each branch in The Wirral.

The Williamson Square idea is a good one.

It probably would have been cheaper as well.

I doubt I could go from Central to Lime Street in 5 minutes! Especially not platform to platform.
But a great little vid that really improved my understanding of the city centre system. I use it a couple of times a week.

Depends if you about to miss the last train from Central as there were delays on the WCML!

It's a state of mind whether you are or not, so it's up to you. I'm from Liverpool and don't always identify with the term especially the more negative stereotypes!
