  • Installed on a safety rope, the ASAP and ASAP LOCK mobile fall arresters connect to the harness sternal or dorsal attachment point. They follow the user in his or her movements, and, in case of a shock load or sudden acceleration, they lock and stop the fall.

Thank you for posting this, you mention a specific rope to use with the ASAP Lock but we use Petzl Vector 12.5. This is still okay correct? Thank you

Question: Once the asap lock is exposed to a fall arrest situation, should it be replaced?

    ASAP Rock for dynamic rope
    9.6? It's written that it's
    designed for 10-13mm
    diameter rope.
    Is a problem if
    rope is 9.6?
    What about the
    rope type (dynamic instead of
    static)?

      9.6 < 10 so...

While the short answer is no, I personally think there would be overhead. However, you cant be sure unless you test it.
It would be easy enough to drop 2 buckets of dirt, 160 lbs off a cliff, before testing your life. You really only need to one bucket of any weight above 20 lbs to test the centripetal force, but you really want a weight at least as much as yourself to test the grab on the rope.
I did extensive testing on the Kong Kisa with 10.5 mm rope, which barely fit the 11mm hole. The friction was way higher than the instructions too. So, you need to test before you trust.
My 10.5 mm rope just feels more trustworthy than my 9.6. The bigger rope may also have more to wear away, which is why they chose to support a thicker rope. In work environments, you need more overhead, because people who are not enthusiastic nerds do stupid things. Using 9.6 rope without lots of tests first, would be stupid.

I am disappointed the asap lock wasn't demonstrated more.
I am still also foggy about self rescue. Having anyone around when I work, doesn't happen. Much less someone able to get as high up as myself. I realize its a once per 150 year, hypothetical fall, but I want to be able to rappel down after it locks. I guess a guy could attach a grigri in the air to the rope when hungup then release the asap.
The ability to lock my revo, is one of the more important features of the unit. It is one reason I like it more than the grigri. Petzl wants too much money for the asap lock, I guess, which is why I rarely hear it mentioned.
