We didn't include the ASAP in our Technical Tip for self-belaying on Top Rope (www.petzl.com/US/en/Sport/General-principles-for-solo-climbing-with-a-fixed-belay-rope) because the ASAP is a product from our Professional (Industrial) line of equipment. This equipment is not designed for recreational use, nor is it found in recreational climbing shops. That said, one of the functions of the ASAP is to arrest the fall of a worker who is climbing on a structure. This is basically the same situation as a self-belayed top rope fall for a recreational climber (as shown here www.petzl.com/US/en/Professional/Primary-belay-device-in-a-fall-arrest-system?ProductName=ASAP#.WJHf21MrLIU). If you happen to possess an ASAP, and you read and follow the ASAP's instructions for use, and use compatible ropes, it could be used for solo top-roping. But keep in mind that you would not be able to use the ASAP to hang on for a rest, and please be sure to have the equipment and skills needed to get back on the rope and descend after an ASAP arrested fall. ASAP Rock for dynamic rope 9.6? It's written that it's designed for 10-13mm diameter rope. Is a problem if rope is 9.6? What about the rope type (dynamic instead of static)?

Petzl Professional Can I use it for roof working. I work in roof replacement and OSHA has standards very dificult to fulfill in matter of fall protection. OSHA has approved this for fall protection?
Why have Petzl designed the new ASAP without any means to make it drop proof even removing holes that were present for this task on the older model. Both difficult access workers and workers at height require a system that is should be impossible to drop. Is this just a means of up selling to the ASAP lock? Generally I like Petzl products but this just seems irresponsible to design a product that is impossible to use safely for its intended use. Reply keenly awaited. Cheers Rob
HandlebarMTB Leave it hooked to your shock absorber. The drop-proof idea is that it can remain attached to your shock absorber unlike the older generation where you had to remove the carabiner to open the cover I believe.
@@pentachronic they still sell the old version. I bought it a year ago from a rigging supplier. I had to drill it to put some paracord and a caribina on. It's easily droppable. If I knew about the lock version I would have purchased that instead.
Shame on Petzl for not knowing the correct Working-at-Heights Industry Standard word terms. There is NO "Fall Arrest" system demonstrated. There is a Fall Prevention system with the worker attached to the rope. A Fall Arrest system is a shock absorber system that operates at the down end of the fall to safely absorb the shock at the end of the rope. A Fall Arrest system provides slow deceleration instead of instant stop. Little Giant needs to remove this video and correct the errors.

Petzl sucks: the first asap had the useful, smart option to save the device from falling, simply by attaching a cord to connect it with its carabiner, using the specifically designed hole in the device. Nice. The new simple asap shown here has no option to save it from falling, cause petzl "forgot" its own achievement: To drill a hole for the cord ... Many of petzls new products are worse than their ancestors, e.g. the flimsy footascender, with some too thin , too short fuzzy, white(!) sling Material, instead of the solid old black one... try to put this on some solid rubber boots- its a bit short.... Fernand Petzl would never have accepted such, cause he mostly wore rubberboots while exploring caves... So, why is it , that petzl misses its own , proofed standards by this? Evolution took place, but lets forget about it , to make something new?!
I explore abandoned mines for CZcams. This would should work great for going down old ladders in abandoned mines!
