Is it odd to wear groin guards at the gym? Would be quite sad to end a lineage due to a ball-crushing workout incident

For Martial Arts/MMA training it's mandatory to wear a groin guard and a mouth guard. So it's not a big deal, wear it to the gym, no one cares.

One thing that happened to one of my mates. They're playing baseball, the "Viktor" of my school comes up as batter and hits a home run, in strength. In aim it was right at someone's family jewel.

I have a story too. My friend was just vibing in a shed during intramurals. Suddenly, a stray ball from a softball came out of nowhere and hit him straight in the shing-a-lings. I have never seen a man in such pain before in my life. He's a guy with a dark complexion but I saw his face turn redder than a tomato. He was holding his breath, tears coming out of his eyes but he made no crying sound. All we heard was him grunting for 30 minutes.

I had a similar experience with Garnt's plastic chair incident but was with taking out the trash at work. When I was heading to the dumpster there was ice around it, I underestimated how slippery the ice was and fell on my left ass cheek as I was tossing the garbage. When I checked later after I got home there was a massive bruise on my left butt cheek. Like Garnt, the pain was for annoying than excruciating but for about a month I couldn't sleep on my left side without experience pain. It took about three months for the pain to be completely gone and for me to be able to sleep on my left side again.

I think as a kid we're a lot more used to just getting hurt by the most bizarre things every single day, as well as being way smaller which heavily decreases how severe stuff like falls can be. Of course as you age it does get easier to cause worse and longer lasting harm to yourself, but assuming you're pretty healthy, I doubt it should make too much of a difference until maybe your mid 40s at least. I'm in my early 20s and sometimes when I get hurt I think "oh god, I'm getting old" but also I don't experience falling on my ass as often as I did in high school, so it could be that it's just more surprising.

7:45 This is literally me. My right hand pink is slightly crooked now, I was working at a landscape supply store at the time and I remember an incident where I felt like my pinkie hurt, but I was too busy dealing with customers and stuff to really look at it so I just ignored it. It's slightly crooked now, but it doesn't affect my life in any meaningful way and I don't feel like spending a few hundred to get it rebroken and set correctly for what is essentially a cosmetic issue that's almost impossible to notice unless you're specifically looking for it

In like second or third grade this girl in my class was super flexible and she’d always show us how far back her fingers could go. I wanted to see if I could do it too so I tried it on my right ring finger. It somewhat went back and then I felt pain. Probably dislocated it or snapped something. Went home, told my mom about it, she refused to take me to the hospital and told me I’d be fine. The pain lasted around a week, didn’t bother me too much apparently. It was one of those annoying consistent pains. Never got it checked out. I’m now about to be 24 and every time I straighten my hand/fingers, that one is oddly shaped. My friends get grossed out when they notice it. Then they freak out even more when I show them my misplaced knuckle on my other hand😅
That one I punched someone in high school and ripped the tendon in my pinky causing my knuckle to disappear. Waited around a month before I got it checked out. Spent half my summer in a splint. The tendon eventually healed itself and I got my knuckle back except it’s in a higher spot than it was originally.

This reminds me I had a friend in high school who, after one of our early morning football workouts, accidentally dropped a 45 pound bumper plate on his dick.
He was helping put the weights away, and the stands we held our bumper plates on were just poles on stands you'd drop the weight through. The other weight just the perfect height of his waist, and his shaft just so happened to be resting ever so slightly on the top bumper plate just as he dropped the one he was holding down, and his dick got smashed in between the two weights (thankfully his balls were unaffected it was just the shaft). It looked super black purple and blue for the next few weeks until it finally healed and according to him he's recovered fully, so that was good to hear haha.

I believe I saw this on the Discovery Channel. The human body has an inbuilt painkiller which is stronger than even morphine. It kicks in when the pain can be too much to bear for the person. And then starts wearing off once the situation is more manageable.

I took a wrong step in a stair after a night out and twisted my ankle pretty bad. The next day I couldn't even get to the konbini. That was pretty scary. I have no idea how I managed to get from Shibuya almost all the way to Iidabashi on that ankle (I took the subway but it's a long way to walk in the stations). I was limping for a week or two but then it got alright again.

If you're very unlucky and land on your tailbone the wrong way you can break your back! There was that incident at Twitch Con where the foam pit wasn't actually a pit. (Such a pit is meant to be deep with a sorta trampoline beneath it, but it was just a very thin layer of foam cubes and then concrete. Don't trust such pits at such events!)

I only ever notice the swelling and pain a few hours or days later, the pain was only a slight ache that only got worse when I tried to use it or put weight on it. I didn't even notice when one side of my collarbone became detached from my sternum after a workout, I found out when my wife told me it looked wrong

I think if the impact is hard enough, at some point your injury or impact or whatever will no longer have any sensation.
At work i was once turning over a heavy steel workpiece and got slammed across the side of my face by a steel pipe connected by a hinge which locked one way. Just made half my face completely numb and taught me what it actually means to be stunned. Slowly pulled my hand up to feel if it was still there.
