Mass Effect is an incredible achievement and probably the most complex and well realized SciFi universe out there. Now that the Legendary Edition is out, I thought it'd be a good time to finally cover Vigil, which doubles as the iconic Main Menu Theme. Since it's a very synth-pad heavy piece I went ahead with the Liara piano version from Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC.

@@Raison_Cuper so many people like to shit on Andromeda, but honestly, I finished it recently and Iâm like, it wasnât ME, but it was still good in its own right. I liked having an ME story that didnât revolve around Shepard or the threat of the extermination of the entire galaxy.
â@@SusanaCanales1 Not having Shepard or the big threat is fine. I think both of those would be very, very good for ME4. The biggest problem with Andromeda from everything I've heard is the execution.

I'm listening to this for probably the fiftieth time this week and thinking, "I could teach myself this fairly quickly." Time to get started on my childhood dream of learning the play the piano.
and it's a good intro piece. It has a consistent right hand but with some variation, especially in octaves. The pace isn't too high but the rhythm matters, and the left hand is fairly simple chords or note progression. It's quite awesome really. Kiiiiiind of wish the arrangement was a little more true to how we actually hear it in the Citadel DLC, but I'll take what I can get.
I actually started to learn to play the piano with exactly this song. Love how easy it is even for someone who has never played before. (Mind you, easy probably doesn't mean you will learn it in one day! :) )
@@davidoboril4163 That's awesome! I thoroughly expect it to take a little while to learn properly, but I'm content with that. I also have offers of help from a couple friends of mine who are professional music teachers, so I'm really looking to getting started.
@@serban031 I just assumed it was from the first game, given that the Prothean VI is called Vigil. But in all fairness, I haven't had time for my annual playthrough of the Trilogy. My nerdy self plays Mass Effect and Dragon Age once a year. There's little more satisfying in a game than well developed characters for me.

It was a wonderful experience. I thought KOTOR was great, then this non-IP called Mass Effect releases, and I'm like, ok, well Bioware hasn't done me wrong yet, and as you say, as Shepard ran up on the rubble that was Sovereign, I was giddy.

Hey Atin, it's been a while since I've left a comment on one of your videos but never the less still hanging around. So in light of ME:LE and that it has consumed my life again I have one small request. In ME3: Citadel during the romance scene if you have Liara as your romance interest she plays a song on the piano. You get to hear a full version of the same song afterward but I was interested as a fellow fan if you would play it?

@@AtinPiano Your version rather aims closer to ME:1 vigil than Citadel piano vigil. You play it higher, longer, and some of the notes are much more reminiscent of the immediate opening of Vigil - high, and sort of....lonely. Wistful maybe. The piano version, especially given the context its in, trends toward warm. I love your version, don't get me wrong, and I'm so looking forward to practicing it, but it does feel quite different

The horns actually captured the essence of vigil...the word itself means a long wait, which it was...a long wait on ilos.
I think its difficult to capture that with a piano.

Honestly, there's a little something missing. The interaction with Vigil was like a realization of a massive loss. It may not have been good, it was imposed. It was a revelation. That's tough to capture and I have no clue. This was competent, but maybe there is more to share? What did you think and feel?
