Man this game is really out here making me cry. One of the few games that really gets you attached to the characters and the story. You laugh and cry with them through this whole experience and the ending no matter which one you pick is just devastating. Even the destroy ending with surviving Shepard still wrecks you emotionally. Which leads me to believe the stargazer scene occurs many eons after the events of Mass Effect 3, so far into the future that very little, if any records remain of the evens we see in the game. A point in time where the line between synthetic and organic no longer exists, not because of synthesis itself but rather because synthesis occured too far into the past, maybe millions of years before, and what little is left of those events are just stories.

The more I think about synthesis the less sense it makes. Imagine Banshee's, like what happens to them? They're nice now? Fine with being abominations? Why did the plants become fused with tech too? What are the moral implications of making that decision for every single lifeform? And the 'synths always fight their creator' thing, it makes no sense either, AI gets annoyed at being treated like slaves, decides to protect itself, oh no conflict. Okay just don't enslave sentient AI, problem solved.

@@halfnattyboomer354 That's why the Indoctrination Theory makes so much sense.Think about it: one moment Shepard is struggling to get up, clearly horrendously wounded, but then she gets up for a long talk? The Reaper AI looks like the child in Shepard's dreams, but how does the AI know about the child? Two alternatives to Destroy are available, both clearly much better options?
Even more telling: the only ending with Shepard alive is Destroy, even though (with her extensive cybernetics) survival shouldn't have been possible? More, we never actually see EDI and the geth being killed.
The Destroy option is also the only one that kills the Reapers.

That particular comment didn't involve the Reapers. Interesting how you went high and to the right with your response.
The AI used the Reapers to solve the problem of AI killing Organics (by killing Organics) Shepard proved peace was possible thus the "solution" wasn't valid. It's a basic logic break.

@@royalladybug30 The Reapers aren't here to "stop AI from killing organics by killing organics". I'm sorry you read it that way.
They're here to harvest all advanced organic life and preserve them into Reapers, because they believe themselves to be the pinnacle of evolution.
This theme has been repeated from the first game all the way to the final conversation with their so-called leader who takes the form of that kid killed in the beginning of the third game.
Another theme through the third game was victory through sacrifice. Yes, you would have to sacrifice some things in order to achieve victory, and some of those choices would be pretty hard to swallow.
But if you think of it, the destroy option destroys anything with Reaper tech in it. EDI was built using parts from Sovereign, and the Geth had upgraded themselves with Reaper code.
It also mentions "all synthetics will be targeted", which is a pretty absolute term. Followed up by "even you (Shepard) are partly synthetic" to clarify what "all synthetics" means. The breath scene at the end was a hint that the kid may actually have been lying to you, because you were supposed to die because "all synthetics would be targeted", but you don't.
People either misinterpreted this, or simply refused to believe that was a lie unless the game came over and smacked them in the face with it. It had to be that obvious.

But you're forgetting the point of what makes humans different from A.I. we humans and other species have free will choosing the synthesis is pretty disturbing because by choosing that ending you're robbing organic life forms a choice to make a decision in fact they are forced to obey and accept what they are going to be and if you mix synthetic life forms to organics there's a big chance of getting easily Brainwashed and manipulated, the destroy ending is always the ending that makes sense because that's what the player has set out to do and that the geth are willing to help you against destroying the reapers meaning all synthetic life forms will get destroyed makes it more poignant and thought provoking that the geth are willing to sacrifice its own kind so that the rest could prosper a very human act made by a synthetic organic.

I don't care what anyone else says, THIS is my preferred ending.
First of all, it doesn't destroy the Geth after establishing peace between them and the Quarians.
Secondly, EDI is also spared, so Joker gets a happy ending.
Thirdly, it spares the Reapers. As EDI points out, the Reapers have knowledge from past cultures, which essentially saves those past cultures from an existential extinction.
Killing off so many synthetics, and in the Reaper's case, archives of organics, always left a bad taste in my mouth.
Finally, the cherry on top of this hot-take sundae: the ascension of synthetic and organic life as a new, united form of being.
The only fly in the buttermilk is Shepard's death being a necessary antecedent to this ending.
The Control Ending, is a close second. I always imagine Shepard saying "Hey, Harbinger! Assuming control!" It's almost poetic, and I love it.
The Destroy ending is all well and good, and Shepard surviving is great, but why bother saving the Geth on Rannoch just to kill them all later? Screw that. It only beats the Do Nothing Ending.

@@Alistair_7609 Destroy doesn't just break the cycle, it makes the stakes higher and it's pointless. The Leviathans knew that there was going to be endless conflict between synthetics and organics, that's why the catalyst was created.
If you pick the destroy ending, you're wasting the knowledge and experience of countless harvested cycles stored in the reaper forms, and the possible answer to peace from the collective thoughts of endless Civilizations that have been harvested.
Another reason why the Destroy ending is useless is because it doesn't exactly solve anything, it assumes that the Reapers are the problem, which, if you understood the Leviathan DLC, you'd realize that they weren't. The catalyst explicitly stated that the Reapers aren't interested in war.
Finally, picking the destroy ending resonates with many of us, because like the catalyst said, we cannot see past our own flawed organic thinking, to realize that this is a bigger problem, one that doesn't necessarily have to have an other to challenge. It's not black and white. The game sets us up to hate the reapers, and that's the deception. The game developers are relying on our human nature to pick this ending.
Lastly, even if the generations of today in the Galaxy somehow make peace and start again, who's to say that the upcoming generations would not create synthetics and bring the chaos back? Well, sure, you might say we learn from our history and mistake, but I don't see that happening in the real world, neither do I see the same in the Mass Effect universe.

Among the four available endings it is impossible to determine which is the best.
The only certain thing is what the true function of the Crucible was, that is the synthesis between organic and synthetic life.
The Destruction consists in shooting at a part of the Crucible and this does not make sense, because thinking that a device resulting from an advanced alien technology works by shooting at it is like thinking that a sophisticated supercomputer starts up by hammering it.
The Control is a partially correct use of the Crucible, because only the thoughts and memories of the user are exploited, but the molecular structure of the user remains unused.
In short, the correct functioning of the Crucible consists in exploiting both the mental and molecular essence of the user.

In his last talk with Shephard, even Javik admitted that he is envious of Shephard's cycle not just because they had a chance to defeat Reapers, but because their cycle was totally different. And in the end, they all rallied behind the single race. Or, to be more precise, they all rallied behind one person. Shephard. If Protheans and their attitude comes back... + It would greatly depends on what you did with Memory Shard. If told Javik to use it, he will kill himself anyway, cause he will realize that he is truly alone and the only thing that is keeping him alive is his mission. Without it, he kill himself. But yes, in very specific scenarion where he survives and goes on writing books with Liara, he may be pissed a little. On the other hand, if i am not wrong, noone in the galaxy truly understood what crucible is what it is doing exactly. I don't see how Synthesis could possibly go as well as in this cutscene.
First, we know that making a single Reaper means killing and liquefying at least millions of organic sentients. So connecting your mind to theirs would be like constantly hearing the dying agonies of billions+. Not good for sanity.
Second, it presupposes that understanding something means you can't hate it. But to understand the Reapers is to understand just how many trillions they murdered in cycle after cycle and to see the kind of abomination they really are.
Third, it's inflicting a massive change in the nature of their existence upon all living beings in the galaxy without their consent. That change is not presented to them as a choice or even well explained to Shepard, not even in this ending.

    • @DiscardedContext
      @DiscardedContext Před 3 měsíci

We would have control over every “issue” you brought up. You can’t see past conflict because you are organic. We would be connected to every conscience that ever was. We could go to work on creating a platform for every one of those sentient beings that were eradicated by the Reapers that wanted to. because as you said, they are stored as and in the individual Reaper.
I wasn’t informed or asked for consent when I was born. I had no choice in being a human. Does a Creator ever ask for the consent of the created? No never, not the Christian God or any other. so we already have that issue as inherent to the universe
With synthesis, literally anything you can dream of using your imagination becomes possible. Any conflict that you think may happen only exists as a possibility in your mind because, as an organic, you can’t comprehend an existence without it. Which is the point of this series we are trying to end these cycles forever. Destroy only ends the cycle temporarily. As synthetics WILL be created again it’s just what mortal organics do with technology.

    • @xn85d2
      @xn85d2 Před 3 měsíci +1

@@DiscardedContext You're not making any sense. You're really going to say I can't see past conflict because I'm organic? That's blatantly untrue for a start and also suggests you're not organic, which you are. How does "creating a platform" for the people who were genocided work when you're connecting your mind to the ones who committed the genocide? You're hardly going to get the Reapers, whose entire hard-coded purpose is to wipe out intelligent life, to admit that doing so was wrong and ask for forgiveness.
Second. Shepherd is not God. He (or she) did not make human life, or any other sentient life. Shepherd has neither the authority nor the responsibility that comes with being a Creator. Moreover, this is not analogous to being conceived and born, since that is a start of an existence, whereas this is an alteration to an existence already ongoing. Finally, how do you think anyone who doesn't exist could even be asked for their consent to exist? They don't exist to give an answer in the first place, nor would they have any frame of reference to reply.
I know the idea is supposed to be a utopian one, but the whole point of my comment is that that is not remotely likely to be the real outcome. Synthesis simply means that the linked minds can understand each other. OK. Well I understood the latter part of you comment, but I certainly don't agree. So then what? As individuals we can agree to disagree, but as a collective mind what happens? Some voices are overruled, ignored forever? Permanent oppression for the minority view? If so, how does that lead to anything but separation, anything but violence? You're trying to act like technology solves every problem, but in reality, it often simply exacerbates them.

It‘s utopia for the reapers, exactly what they see as a solution to the unavoidable "conflict" between organics and synthetics. Ironically they fail their original purpose, to preserve life, by doing this. They do end all conflict, but circumvent natural evolution and turn anything that lives into a perfect organic machine without death and near infinite knowledge. So evolution instantly stops and any life that hasn‘t reached its peak potential yet (if that‘s even possible) is doomed to suck. Only synthetic "life" benefits from this ending, and even the geth would hate it as they value making their own future, no species uplifting each other. For organics it‘s an unthinkable horror that removes any challenge and purpose from existing so yeah, for me it‘s the worst ending by far.

Back to the topic at hand; you have no idea what the synthesis ending represents, then. It's not a hive mind scenario, where all individuals both synthetic and organic lose their individuality. Rather, all synthetics and organics gain a perfect understanding of their counterparts to a molecular level. This is very literally reaching absolute empathy on a galactic level between organics and synthetics. This is, word by word, what EDI narrates in this ending. It was confirmed by BioWare and Casey Hudson after the release of the Extended Cut. It was just a tool which fed a guilt inside me and I fell for that trap. I have spent so much time with the artefacts. It was was so clear that they would use their best fight tactic against me. The ultimate reason why is worked is that they not only indoctrinated me as Shepard but also me in my real life as I was so agains of accepting the truth. I am devastated. I tried to defeat them for so long and forgot about everything at the very end. Few words weived my believes and I was just persuaded by the reapers. Plus, it was MUCH harder to say farewell to Shepard (IF you don´t manage to have the 7500+ military strenght, which is brutally hard to achieve and I didn´t do it, just wanted to have fun...maybe one day. And IF they decide to make ME4, maybe the best possible ending will be the real end. Well, hopefully not, Shepard had his legend and it´s his trilogy).
While I played paragon, synthesis was the ultimate paragon goal and I was really pleased with it. i know most people hated it...but this was the paragon sacrifice and the goal - give piece to whole universe. So it´s amazingly done!
I see that somebody sees in it "real life" indoctrination with all the integration and equality (yup, i´ve seen in it, too) - but I didn´t let it spoil to the amazing end of the trilogy :)

Yeah currently we don`t know what the next ME game will bring us but I hope not another Shepard (though I would like to play as Shepard if its DLCs of something). Shepard is DEAD ! We have to face it.. no matter how hard it is.
      Thanks for watching !

@@x.gamehub.x Oooh, marathon in this case means, I was playing JUST those three games and it took me a whole month! It wasn´t longplay nor quickplay.
Played Legendary edition and didn´t play the game since they released ME3.
Tell me about it! I love the cast and it really hurt when you know what will happen. The first playthrough (when the original trilogy was released) wasn´t that nightmarish becuse you didn´t know what will happen. But now I know what will roughly happend and wasn´t looking forward (for example choose between Ashley and Kaidan).
One of the absolutely best DLC was that with doppleganger. The whole section in the library I could laugh my ass off (those lines were perfect and uncle Wrex was top!). The clone died, so I don´t think Shepart will return in ME4 (if they don´t take the best possible ending as the only one).
ME1 is my most favourite just becuse it was first, but was quite barebone (track "Vigil" is my most favourite music).
ME2 is my absolutely top, becuse the characters are written so organically I just wanted to save them - and I did!
ME3 was slow at the beginning, but the story unfolds very quickly and the ending was just way too much to bear.
ME is still one of my most beloved series :) Even Andromeda, which was a bit...different, but it was Mass effect and I may play it again, but not now. It was really about exploration, but I didn´t had such emotional connection to the characters. It was just fun to explore!
And now, I finally get my paws on Dragon Age series, so another gaming month, here I go! xD

This is by far my favorite Ending, despite the incorrect indoctrination theory. The problem I have with the Destruction ending is because the Starchild told a truth: "Soon your children will create synthetics and the chaos will come back".

Exactly. Some people don't realize this and choose Destroy just to see Shepard alive. Synthesis is the best ending and is the hardest to achieve. This is the only way organics and synthetics co exist peacefully because they are not different anymore.

@@charlierunkle19 I understand your point, but see the options. Consider what is morally correct, if killing is a crime, but a father kill someone in other to obtain a transplant for his child, is forcing a situation because there is no other option for him.
If theft is a crime, but you have children and nothing to give to them to eat ... If you steal some food, your are forcing a situation in order to do the best you can.
In my opinion, the forced synthesis is the same thing, after that, no one is morally disturbed in the game ending, and all organics, and synthetics at last are at peace without the risk of a future and possible disaster or war between them.
Morals are subjective (like love or what is beauty) not objective, that's why this ending is bad for someone, but good for others.

The perfect ending. We don't destroy or control the Reapers, we redeem them. Now they help to rebuild a galaxy scarred by them.

I would like to have the synthesis to be a bridge to make all organic and synthetic lifeforms compatible with each other without removing the diversity of dna. A bridge to give understanding for each other. I know that the reaper were trying this by changing organic by melting them to reapers, but this ending can be the best outcome of all endings.
One important reason is the the cycle ends and there will be no more harvesting. With this ending we also tale away the chance that organic lifeforms will find the path to sythesis or even a better solution. On the other hand we know that organic lifeforms will always creates machines to make serve them. So if we choose the other options we also risk that another cycle will start.
There are also concerns about the immortality of everyone, but keep in mind that doesn't mean in physical form. Everyone can still keep existing in a digital form, so the organic body is just a temporary vessel of a sythesized lifeform.
There are also concerns about the new Mass Effect part. What will be next when everything seems to be fine?
I can say to take a look at Andromeda. Species from the Milky Way managed to travel to another galaxy. So therr could also actually be someone reaching the Milky Way to threaten it. Maybe even an organic or energy based creature that seeks to make the whole universe become like they want it to be.
