I was watching two tiktoks by my creator friends Heather and Shanna, and their conversations got me thinking about elevated basics. What exactly IS an elevated basic? What is it that makes a basic elevated instead of "regular"? And are elevated basics the newest wardrobe "must-have" we should be buying to achieve the perfect closet? Inspired by the conversations started on Tiktok by Heather and Shanna, I'm sharing my personal take on what I think elevated basics are.
Watch Heather and Shanna's tiktok here as they inspired my thoughts on this video! B sure to follow them for more!!

What do you think of elevated basics? Are they a thing? Haha
I think what you're really asking is, "do you want me to make a basic fashion course" to which the answer is "yes" :)
I think so, like some of the pieces you showed, kind of getting out of your comfort zone so to speak.
Btw thank you for the coupon code. I’m trying a couple of pieces from Kotn, happy to support a sustainable business and I love their motto with building the schools. That is so inspiring!
The red blazer thou... bomb!! 😍😍❤❤💕💕👌👌
1. Add colour.
2. Play with cuts.
3. Add a belt.
4. Wear pointed toe shoes.
5. Wear a classic basic with a twist.
6. Choose elevated comfies.
7. Combine usuals with unusuals.
I wish more companies would create initiatives like KOTN but towards getting indigenous people in rural Canada clean drinking water.
love the blazer! would’ve love a winter outfit ideas video for toronto winter, i feel like i lose all creativity and joy for fashion in the winter
same!
Coming up!
Thank you for this video Christina. That red blazer is so beautiful and it looks amazing on you! That color is definitely your color. Love this tips!
Yes, I’m a big believer in finding unique and elevated basics! Some of my white basic tees are peplum style or one is a Henley with beautiful brown wooden buttons.
Elevated to me means quality materials and quality craftsmanship!
Omg that fire red blazer was a GOOD choice! My elevated basics this season seem to be neutral knitwear. Ex: my oversized chunky off white sweater, a navy sweater vest I just thrifted, and my gray merino wool scarf that I bought from Everlane years ago!
You look awesome in the color.
I noticed since you had your colors done by Use Less, you have been wearing more colors.
Looks fantastic.!!
Seems like “elevated basics” is another round making us buying into trends
For me the idea of elevated basics are clothes that dress your basics up a little while keeping the “essence” of the basic pieces. So switching out a loose fitted t shirt for a more fitted shirt, wearing quarter length sleeves instead of short sleeves, and opting for a tailored straight leg jean in a darker wash as opposed to my usual medium wash skinny jeans. I think they’re just pieces that look a bit more put together as soon as you put them on.

That red blazer looks so lovely on you! I feel like it's so festive for this season but the slight warmth also works for warmer months
LOVE what KOTN is doing and how you styled their pieces!
Another good brand is Kowtow, a kiwi brand with similar ethos to KOTN. And does amazing good quality basics.
The deeper cooler jewel tones look so good on you!!! That’s def a party blazer 😊
I love the pops of color you are adding to your wardrobe. Looks great!
"Woooh! Scandalous!"
That is just so fun! Hahaha!
I love your capsule tips. Being mindful is key.
Great color on you. Brings out the warmth of your complexion!🥰
LOVE all your new KOTN pieces on you! Especially the blazer and the black top……wow! Great video. I agree that pointy toes kick things up a bit😍
You look great in that color! Nice to see you branching out from your basic black and white. Your style is alot more minimalist than mine, but I enjoy your videos. I ❤️ what that company is doing in Egypt. Just great.
I really enjoyed the concept of this video - I also loved your new blazer. It's a great color for you!
Would love to see that last outfit where you were ‘doing it all’ (with the red blazer) switched for the cropped one. Great advice as always! Thanks- Diolch from Wales!
That red blazer is everything on you! Love it!
Thank you for the white t-shirt info. Just ordered 👍🏼
Lovely and informative, thank you! Happy Thanksgiving.
ahhh so interesting!! i think all these advices apply to fashion illustration too & can help me create more interesting fashion sketches!!
The red looks amazing on you!! I also like the black body suit with cutout detail(or whatever it's called🤔).
Good job!
Thank you!
Thanks for the great explanation 👍🏼
Would love a video on what to wear in the office and still feel warm. Due to the energy crisis the heat at my work place has been turned down🥶, and I don't want to look like the Michelin man 😫 We are literally sitting with blankets too keep warm.
I struggle with staying warm too. I layer fleece lined tights or leggings under pants. They sell them on Amazon and Walmart.
the orange is sooooo good on you!!
Hey! Christina your vlogs are too too interesting and I really love your vlogs so so much you are my inspiration and I wish you reach 200K Subscribers very very soon!❤️✨☺️
I just ordered the ginger blazer from Kotn which was on sale for $99. Your coupon was still valid and so this beautiful blazer cost me $84!!! Thank you so much.
Woo hoo!!! It’s so nice I hope you love it ❤️
That color! You look stunning! 😍
Love the outfit!!❤
My ways to elevate my essentials are through shoes and bags, jewelry, make-up and hair. I am currently playing more with accessories like sunnies or silk scarfs (not much of belt girl here). Also instead of a white tee-shirt or an Oxford shirt I go for a silk romantic shirt, embroidery or a girly silk top (but hey that's basically for me an essential so maybe I have a more elevated style haha). I love to play with the cuts... instead of a more relaxed or flowy dress for example I may go for a dress that shows a bit of clivage and my waist (again I love dresses and I wear them a lot and have different cuts but baby doll or empire dress are a staple for me... but I hate sweater dresses and t-shirt dresses, they aren't me). I also tend to play with materials but yet again I privilege silk over coton... never underestimate the power of a fabric (yeah I am talking about you polyester... you are not elevated IMO), the quality and the craftmanship (for example did you know that a good silk scarf besides the quality of the silk and of the print has the edges sewed by hand and not by a machine ? ). I am I am a bit mixed in my feelings about elevated basics as basics are so personal... so yeah maybe it's more about style than anything else and the way we mix and match things in order to feel more put together and change a bit our uniform in order to not get bored with our wardrobe. For example, you say that maybe a blazer is not elevated... as it is part of your uniform it surely can not feel elevated but for me as a blazer is not part of my uniform it definitely feels more elevated when I wear and style it... I hope I am clear. XOXO
Love this!
You look AMAZING in that red blazer!!
I am only now starting to notice these gold hoops that you frequently wear in your videos. They look really great! (I am actually currently working backwards ! through all of your videos, rather than say, starting a year ago, and then working forwards 😊) The tomato coloured-blazer is also really stunning on you! (I feel like this colour is really underappreciated at this point in time)
You look amazing in red!!
This is interesting. In menswear (which I feel more comfortable talking about as I'm a dude), "elevated basics" came into the discussion in a big way several years back. The general idea was something like "it's a t-shirt, but better." Usually that meant the fabric was "better" somehow: thicker cotton, or merino wool instead of cotton. It's a plain white sneaker, but it's made of leather from a high-end tannery rather than whatever plasticized stuff Adidas puts in a Stan Smith, and it's made in Italy or USA rather than wherever Adidas gets Stan Smiths made. It was stuff that might superficially look the same as Gap fare, but it would last longer or feel better or look cooler or get you a nod from other clothing nerds. I haven't paid much attention lately, so maybe the term means something else now in dude-dom.
I'm loving you sprinkling in some color!
That color on you …absolutely a must
wait wait wait, where is that fire blazer from?? 😍💥
EDIT: Nevermind! i just had to keep watching the video haha
You look great! Love the blazer & the top.
That black bodysuit with the cutout looks STUNNING on you 😍
The red-orange (roarange?) blazer looks awesome on you!
Roarange! Omg I love the terminology haha thank you!
love your blazer!
That colour looks gorgeous on you! I like how you did your hair too. You look just like a girl I went to high school with in the 90s, but her name was Aime and she was a mean girl lol.
Christina, you look amazing in that red blazer. I hope you wear it often.
Do you have a link for the trench coat?
I stopped buying fashion jewelry. I buy 14k and precious gemstone jewelry instead. They are not fool proof (i have rings with missing diamond and ruby from daily wear) but they certainly last longer, have some resale value, and pass down possibilities.
Please what camera are you using? 😍😍
I love your red blazer, it suits you well. 😘
I’m all pro elevated tops instead of t-shirts. T-shirts just don’t look good on me and I don’t feel good in them
I dare you to wear that red blazer 10x this year ❤️🎀✨
It looks so good!
has your skincare routine changed from 1 year ago? how do you stay so dewey
It’s the new lighting set up more so! But I also started using snail mucin haha
@@Christinamychas I’m on the snail slime tooooo. Love it so much. Ty for the response
To me, an elevated basic is basic with a twist. Instead of a basic (often plain) white t-shirt or a button down, it has a twist or details which make it more interesting to the eye. I think the red blazer is more of a statement piece than an 'elevated basic' though.
That bodysuit really suits you!
Girl you are blazin in the blazer 😉
😂😂🥰🥰🔥 thanks babe!
Looking rather chic today Christina
I love your style but i dont think its practical for my life. sometimes I think these pieces don't fit me as a midsized person or blazers looks obviously work-ish because of my larger chest. It would be SO interesting to see you style a larger person in your style and/or see you analyze someone else's basics and elevate them
You wear alot of blazers.. I don't. When I have looked at the label, it says it needs to be dry-cleaned.. so the few I have, I never wear. It seems alot of hassle and (at least where I live) it is expensive to have something dry-cleaned. How does one manage blazer-maintenance? Just accept dry-cleaning as a cost time and money-wise? :)
I’m going to disagree that many of your points aren’t what elevated basics are. Often adding a pop of color can look cheap if the item isn’t made of quality fabric or construction. As well, sometimes details can look like an add on and look cheap. I feel rather it’s something in the attention to details like the cut, but I’m still trying to figure out what it is (hence why I clicked on the video). Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy your content, just feel this time you didn’t quite hit the mark.
I think the definition is pretty personal - just like you’re still looking for your own version. So these are just some options to consider imo
Where is the pointy toe flat that doesn’t caused a bunion?
Pointed toe shoes are hideous.
Yeah
They're so funny I can't take them seriously
