Today I'm sharing 10 style mistakes I made and how I fixed them. When I say "mistake" in this video, I mean that these were style choices I made often that usually left me feeling "off" in my outfit, or that I missed the mark. Now that I know myself, my personal style and how I want to feel in my clothes, I've been able to "correct" a lot of these mistakes to create an outfit and a style that always feels good, and feels like me. That's what I'm going for, here. There are no rules in fashion, so if you like to dress in some of the ways that I've flagged as a "mistake", KEEP DOING YOU! That's the beauty of personal style - you know what you like, and what makes you feel good. Do that.

I'm Christina, friendly neighbourhood human on the internet slash pharmacist. You may have previously known me as Style Apotheca. Let me know what style mistakes made you feel “off” and how you fixed it!
Happy Easter from Greece! My main style mistake is thinking only "utilitarian" . I've made a lot of progress by buying more prints to wear with my basics and matching "corporate" elements with sportier/more feminine ones. Still trying to upgrade my style, thanks for the inspiration!
The main style issue I fight with is that my chosen outfit of the day sometimes feels too themed.
Christina, this is one of your very best videos IMO. Although your style aesthetic is quite different from mine I really like your philosophy and I always feel that your advice is spot on. I am 57 so I have made a lot of mistakes. I have definitely been guilty of the too many basics error. I have also swung too far the other way. When an Anthhropologie store opened up nearby, I found myself checking out their sale room frequently. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize that my wardrobe was very busy with too many prints and embellished items. I have paired my style way back in recent years and I often tell myself, "If it's all special (my wardrobe), than none of it is really special." My other big wardrobe sin is being in too big a hurry to fill seasonal wardrobe holes. I end up either buying the thing that is not quite right, or realizing as a get into that season that I really didn't need the items afterall.
My mistake is not always remembering to replace essential items while they're wearing out, rather than after they disintegrate.
If I realise something needs replacing, I can take time to choose something which really works for me, and hopefully I might find it second hand. Whereas if I have to buy something urgently, I may well end up with something which is less than ideal, especially as I'm small in all directions and have fewer choices.
Buying cheaper clothes and telling myself mentally I'm can't afford nicer things or that I'm not worth it.
This is such good advice! The biggest thing for me was learning to accept my body and dress in a way that made me feel comfortable in it. I love oversized tops, but if I don’t have a defined waist in my outfit, I look much bigger than I am. I have thick thighs, so as much as I want to wear all this gorgeous vintage denim, I can barely sit!
Realizing what silhouettes enhance my body and make me feel beautiful has helped me so much.
The fabric mistake rings true for me. I just bought a couple of items online. When they came, the feel just wasn't what I expected. I need to pay more attention to fabric descriptions if I am buying online.
I think my biggest mistake is buying random pieces instead of thinking about how they'll work in my wardrobe. I end up with lots of things to wear, but no real outfits.
A wardrobe is constructed little by little. I also like clothes and like shopping. So I plan my purchases according to my wishlist. It has taken me 3 years to build a wardrobe that im loving . I’m still working on it.❤
Happy Easter to anyone celebrating today, like I do! And even if you are not, may your spring be filled with health, peace & fun memories! Thank you dear Christina for fresh & cool content, sending love & good vibes from Romania! 💐🤍
Happy easter!

Scratchy wool blazers can be worn with my fabulous assortment of cashmere shawl/scarves for a pop of color and a bit of warmth and softness around the neck in the wintertime. I hardly go a day without wearing a cashmere scarf. My cashmere scarves are one of my wardrobe staples, just as much as jeans, tee-shirts, blazers, and cashmere sweaters are wardrobe staples.
“The obvious shoe”. Yes! If you have a collection of shoes (because they always fit, so they escape the purges more easily), I’m learning that these can be a source of potential creativity and fun.
One thing i'm kind of surprised that didn't make the list (since I've seen your video on color :)) is wearing the wrong colors for you or wearing those colors the wrong way. For the longest time I'd buy something that was perfect in all the other ways for me but couldnt put my finger on why I didn't feel good in it. Finally realized it was the color washing me out or otherwise less being unflattering. Keeping color in mind when I'm shopping has helped me avoid bad buys and wasting money!
Squat test!
You got it! Haha
The new sculptural pieces remind me of some things I’ve seen from Japanese designers. I love that those statement pieces seem to add a new angle to your style ❤
Another great video! I struggle most with shoe choices. I always want to be comfortable, but I get bored with wearing the same sneakers all the time. I love that you talk about going for a more unexpected option! I need to try loafers with socks because maybe that will make them feel more comfortable to me.
I've never thought about fabric. I usually have about 3 or 4 different styles and mix them together until they feel more like me. If I had to describe my style mostly it would 70% Florence welcome Boho. 20% pink girly feminie, 10% Berlin rave clothes and 10% big neurodiverse patterns. Vintage. When I write it out like that I'm like....that's pretty cool !! Soo much fun, a mix of masc/fem depending on how I feel during the day. I love when someone finds something in the shop and says "that's soo you" and I think oh wow yeah!
This really speaks to me. Been feeling my wardrobe is full of basics and utilitarian pieces. Now I want to bring in some statement items!
You are so good at breaking a situation down into elements. I enjoyed this video. As a seamstress, I have been on the fast track of understanding fabric and fiber content. I was surprised to learn acrylic yarns also made me itch. Then I remembered, acrylic items are hard, not soft! dah!
One of the biggest mistakes for me is dressing for others and what I thought they would want to see. Instead of dressing for me and what makes me happy. Learned that a long time ago and now I dress for me and can be myself.
I wore a black slip dress out over the weekend but to make it feel more like me, I teamed it with black high tops and a red check shirt that I knotted in the front (this gave it more shape and made it look more like a tailored jacket) Definitely will be wearing that again!
Sounds very stylish 👍🏼
It's wonderful to see someone share their experiences and recommendations to prevent others from making the same mistakes.
I deuttered about 70 pieces over the last month in shoes clothes old dance apparel because I no longer dance weekly BUT I also purchased 20 new items… I spent approx $400 in the last couple months and I feel guilty but also kind of necessary as I declittered things that no longer served me, fit me or stuff I just no longer liked. So… there it is but I’ve also made the closet look great and even my husband stopped me because I was “ decluttering” so much. Regardless, I’ve been binging ur videos and thanks for all ur sound advice. Not shopping or minimal shopping is def a process😳
I'm French and I'm glad I speak English to be able to understand your videos 😁
I found my personal style for casual clothing many years ago. I am, however, having a really hard time at the moment finding my personal style for work.
My biggest issues actually are the mixing of sizes to create shape, the choices of fabric and the mix of casual/formal. What I have been going for lately is casual tops with clean pants/skirts or vice-versa and a nice dress. Dresses for me are so easy, A-line dresses and wrap dresses fit me very well and they solve all of my style issues. Then, I wear my flats, platform loafers or retro shoes with them. I am also severely lacking in accessories. I only really wear earrings. Maybe a bracelet and using my scarves as neck ties would help in accessorizing a bit more.
I'm kinda realizing I'm solving my personal style issue as I'm writing this comment lol.
Try cleaning your house in a ball gown, it really makes the cleaning more fun. :)
I can confirmed as a French speaking Montrealer Christina can order a coffee and croissant in Montreal next find your way in the subway in french 😂 Bonjour- Hi!
Haha yessssss I’ve graduated from Ananas and telefrancais! 😂 🍍
@@Christinamychas hahaha do we share the same jokes? because it's a classic -what is the english word for ''Ananaaa'' is 'aNAnasss' LOL also if you are asking a french canadian if they are fluent in english and their response is YES-NO-TOASTER .... means they are not! LOL
You are really helping my shopping obsession. I’m trying my hardest to push my fantasy self away and just enjoy the clothes that I wear everyday that I feel my most confident self in anyway ❤️
❤️❤️
Supper important that our clothes reflect our personality to feel amazing and confident!
when you know your style and buy accordingly it’s amazing how many outfits can be put together with very few pieces ❤
Great video! I 💯 agree, it's so important for me to build my outfits with the right proportion that way my outfits look stylish, also accessories playing big part and for me patterns and mixing stand out pieces just take my outfits to the next level!
Christina, thank you for a great video! Listening to other people's mistakes helps to find balance in personal style and take everything with a grain of salt.
This has been one of my fav videos of yours❤I felt like every single tip resonated so well!
Very smart! Love it 🙂
I really appreciate you sharing your journey.I can relate!
This is great information! Thank you!
Why so true! Excellent. Thank you
Love your new more trendy items, it's great to have more fun with a bit of fashion!
It really is! ❤️
Thanks for another great video! My style has evolved quite a bit since last year and I’m beginning to learn to create and curate my capsule wardrobe. Lots of great tips in here and I especially agree with your tip about basics and jewelry. With the jewelry, I went for a while without purchasing any bc I felt it was unnecessary but I didn’t realize how much it can help to add style to an otherwise basic outfit. I’m now trying to invest in higher quality jewelry that is not prone to tarnishing to help my pieces last longer.
You always provide such great practical tips in your videos
Really enjoyed it ❤
I have done them all and more! But I look and learn from you! I agree with all the tings you say and show! 😎
One of your best videos for me. My style is quite different from yours but these comments really helped me. I’m working on shoe options now. I’m older so comfort us huge but I realize the shoes make the outfit.
Also, I’m glad to see you expand from the white tshirt/ blazer. ❤
Really great tips!
I really like your new balloon acid wash jeans. This was a great reminder video. Thank you
awesome advice christina!! thank you so much. you really help me think through styling❤ styling > buying!!!
Great video, I agree with u , love seeing how clothes r put together. Used to love buying them years ago but size today is so different with every brand . Loved your blazers.
I really enjoyed this video! For me it's about dressing in such a way, that it reflects my inner vibes.🥰 Playing with proportions, accessories, color/value, are all tools we can work with to refine what we want to communicate to the world around us. I agree with allowing the process to be playful. ❤ We shouldn't shame each other for expressing who we are. After years of dealing with chronic health issues, I now embrace my body as a holy canvas. Enjoying all kind of inspirational sources to help refine my personal style 🙏
Great video. Xoxo 💕
Great information ❤
Hi there, french subscriber here ! Your french is quite good, and you can be confident with it for sure ! :) Just a tip, I hope you don't mind me correcting you, I just wanted to be helpful! We would typically say " un café au ( just the sound O) lait" not "café avec du lait" and that's actually easier to say ! Salut !
Great video and the examples help so much. I’ve also done many of these mistakes: Not paying attention to the fabrics was the top mistake. Not remembering accessories (or taking time to be more creative with what I have.)
Hello from France 🇫🇷 ! Votre français est très bien ! Merci pour toutes vos vidéos, qui sont très inspirantes !
great video!
Hope you had a great easter break with the fam ❤
I think my biggest mistake has been colours, buying an outfit I see on someone else and loving it then when I wear it and it looks off is usually because the colour doesn’t suit me. Also the colour palette of my wardrobe are quite dark, rich colours and when I’ve bought desaturated or pastel colours they don’t go with anything else.
Been watching your vlogs... and it all make sense.. you are such an inspirati❤n....especially to a shoppaholic like me...
Thank you!❤
Great video
Hug myself to see if the top fits.
The squat is my go to
I want to know if the pants show the back
And I was puzzled why so many elderly people wears a dress over pants
Now I found out when you get bloater, clothes tends to go up and down
Suspenders and belt become besties.
I recently redid my whole wardrobe (don’t fret…. I second handed 95%)
I was a little miffed that I didn’t find it super easy to put an outfit together lol
Yesterday I tried on 3 different looks before I found the right one
Shoes were what mostly kept throwing them off though
It had gotten chilly and I wanted to wear a warmer outfit and get my feet warm
Every time I went with a look a didn’t have a warmer shoe for it without switching to heels which I wasn’t in the mood for
I’m still having fun figuring out my new style
Loafers look great with slightly cropped denim
I just ordered a year of Babbel! Going to learn French again. I am excited.😊great video, as always
Awesome!
Good video
Hi I’m doing a big closet edit and concentrating on fewer but better items. Loved your black bag. Where could I get it? Thanks
Well done with that French, Christina.
From a Montreal-born-and-raised expat. ❤
What my mistake have been was spending too much money on statement and trendy pieces. I now spend money on quality basics and thrift statement pieces which has been so much fun.
You might already know her but I get similar style vibes from Nathalie Martin… personally it’s not for me I enjoy a lot more colour but I still find your and her outfits so stylish and inspiring. I sometimes take the silhouette of the outfit but do it in colour instead, like head to toe cobalt tones or red or white. Love tonal dressing
Nice video with some good suggestions! The white tee shirts that you are wearing look so nice! Where are they from?
Could you do more videos on fabrics to look for and avoid? Also how best to care for them
I love your french! Lucie de Montréal 😊❤
15:20 the first outfit with the loafers are ok if the large pants shows ankles.
Second outfit is smart and the grey daddy sneakers 👟 are on point.
Very sleek.
I’m still in the full-blown-shopaholic-but-nothing-to-wear stage but trying to move into a minimalist stage hoping I find my personal style, and start shopping “smarter”. 😊
Even though we have completely different styles, I still find your videos incredibly insightful and useful. Congratulations for the content you are making, keep it up!
Thank you so much!
I loove your videos! And I think you are so real and I always get inspiration from you! Always good advise! I hate shopping, but I loove my wardrobe and from time to time getting new things! To be a minimalist or like you put it so elequint; minimalistish??? doesn’t mean you don’t shop! So NEVER EVER apologize for liking anything Christina!!! Least of all shopping cloths! It is like going to the loo. Everyone does it! Some talk about it, others not so much or at all. Some even pretend they don’t do it 😵💫 Even Kings & Queens do it ( but there you are not allowed to talk about it at all) Right??! Just do what is you! That is the gorgeous Christina that we loove to see! 🥰❤️ ( I don’t know if I make any sense at all!?!?? and my spelling is so bad, outocorrect in Swedish 🫣😂😂)
your videos are so helpful, thank you!
You look amazing in blazers- I want to invest in one, but have broad shoulders and I find they never sit well… any blazer tips?
Size up till the shoulders fit then get the rest tailored and taken in if you don't like the looseness (that's how men buy Ready to Wear Blazers too, get the shoulders and sleeves right and tailor others as these two are more difficult to adjust). For me I'm a size UK 8 torso that means a 10 or 12 blazer depending on the brand.
Also straight fit jackets don't need that much tailoring and won't have awkward fabric around the chest that was designed to fit someone that's not broad shouldered so their chest and shoulders are in the same clothing size.
Also double breasted blazers are great, I think they're designed to be not too fitted/they look great not fitted
funnily enough, i think a lot of mistakes I make with fashion is just an extension of a lot of mistakes I make mentally in general. eg I *should* look a certain way, why aren't I actively working to get to my goal fashion (usually confused with fantasy self), settling for less cause I can out of energy and time (and not even always setting myself up the best time and energy wise to begin with). So basically it's just self sabotage at this point
I love your acid wash jeans!!! Where did you find them? I honestly love your new found style after your colour analysis!
I know!! They’re amazing!!! Soo good!!
They’re Tibi brancusi jeans
We are the same height! I always thought you were at least 5'7 😂
Where is the green cropped blazer from??
🖤
❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
I think after several years im still exploring things about my personal style😅
It's great to explore until you really feel that your style aligns with your personality!
❤
Lol. I thought I'm into becoming an owner of more expensive t-shirt. But after learning the price, I'm not anymore.
I can not for the life of me figure out how people wear white tank tops without any part of the bra showing or bra lines underneath. What kind of bra do you wear?
They’re called nippies!
I have those but can still see them through a white tank:-( yours don't show?
I can see why you would wear sneakers. Pharmacists probably are on their feet a lot. I would want my feet happy while working. I'm a Medical Assistant. So I get it. 😅
