When he pulled that cymbal out from “Made in Japan”, I think my heart skipped a beat. That record is just flat out amazing. Probably not many reading these comments have missed it, but if you have never listened to it, stop whatever you are doing and listen.

I am 53 years old as of this post, I vividly remember being 6 years old and listening to your intro on Fireball and being blown away by it. My older brother is also a gifted drummer, and he had just gotten a hold of the Fireball record, amongst other Purple records. We lived in Costa Rica at the time and records there were really hard to come by. I got the opportunity, later on in 1984 while living in the States, to attend a concert by Purple during the Perfect Strangers tour when you all performed at Hollywood Sportatorium, Florida. Needless to say it was a dream come thru, all of you performed outstandingly. I would like to thank you for your great contributions to that era of music and all the way thru today. May God Bless you and your loved ones. Regards.

Ian, I won a contest with the Bone radio station and went back stage and met you at the concord Pavillion in concord ca. In the early 2000's, you taught me so much over the years, I started our drum lessons in 1970. You were one of the greatest, in the same league as barriemore Barlow, Alan White. Gave you a letter. Thank you for everything, I turned out as a decent studio musician who jammed with some big names. Thanks again brother, to this day "The Mule" is one of the best rock drum solos. How do I know? NOT one mistake, never do the sticks connect, Barriemore was a bad ass too.

One of my hero's. Lucky enough to have met and talked to him a few times over the past 40 odd years. Top guy. My favourite LP of Ian's drumming is the PAL album, Malice In Wonderland from 1977. If any drummers out there are not familiar with it, do check it out. I think it's Ian's high watermark, his peak of creativity. Such wonderful, crisp inventive drumming. One of my all time favourite LP's.

Yeahhh..... I like the sound of those Paiste 2002..... Great cymbals, brought to life by one of the greatest drummers.
    Thank you, Ian

I’ve listened to almost all kinds of music over 40 years and discovered Deep Purple quite late. I never over analyzed anything just ”listened” but when I bought ”made in japan” on vinyl and listened as usual and the drum solo on the mule had been going a while I stopped drinking my coffee and had to listen with both ears. Wow! It’s also a joy to watch videos and see what you can do with just a couple of drums when other drummers have them all around themselves and can’t even get close. Now I always listen to especially the drummer and bass. My favourite drummer!

I was addicted as a teenage lad, to Made in Japan...Europe and In Rock etc. Thanks for the experience of seeing you play in Whitesnake. Thanks for all the music!
