I think, in the back of his mind, he was actually sneaking himself - a kafir - in there, not the camera. The way he talks about the flight on Saudi plane, filming his parents praying and describing throwing rocks at Shaytan as "actually fun" made me think he was there with some Mohammadland expectations ...he's not a Muslim and could have been fined or kicked out of the country.

I see a lot of Muslims making fun of this video, but as a non-Muslim, this video is greatly informative. Yes, it is televised and we have access to it in the West, but this video really lets me as a non-Muslim see what the Hajj is like from the perspective of an actual pilgrim and not a camera planted on some wall.
Macca is a place of unity, different languages, tribes, colors all came to worship one God alone with no division.
Its obligatory to come when you are physically, mentally and financially capable.
Its just a pagan pilgrimage, running 7 rounds around a ridiculous square where birds are pooping on it, only for worshipping an alledged holy "white-stone" which comes out to be as common as all the stone types you can find in that particular desert area.

yes of course pilgrims can take selfies and photos of them in Mecca, Medina but only with phone and pocket sized camera/point shoot camera. If it's dslr or you want to film something, you need permission.
And the point of not allowed is when you posing for photos and disturbing other pilgrim's worship
He snuck a pork chop as well
You are not required to do Hajj if you are financially incapable.
Omeir that is true, but people want the blessing and reward of performing it whenever they get a chance to avail it.

Robyn T you must have such a miserable life if it consists of posting negative comments on a youtube video about Islam in order to get a response out of people. Not worth my time
What's next sneaking water to the ocean
I don't know if it's the German part in me, but I would love to organize and streamline the whole process of Hajj. Seems like a massive challenge. Make it a much more pleasant experience for everyone. All from accommodations, to transportations, scheduling etc.
Thank god all of what you said is happening now
Its allowed to film there. I broke my camera when i went there, so I bought a sony digital camera from there LMAO. Vice makes it sound like Hajj is some secretive cult ritual. Now i am not aware of the current rules
There was a documentary about the Hajj a while back. It is a logistical nightmare that regrettably, has caused some deaths over the years.
With that being said, the documentary also covers the steps taken by the authorities in ensuring that the Hajj is done safely. In fact, alot of the major construction/ changes made to the infrastructure are made with this in mind.
You can try, but you have people from different cultures, different languages, with people who drive in different directions which dictates which direction you walk

Yeah, and he's the one who filmed it for them. Only he can sneak in. He know the ways.
@Lost on Earth bruh it's never illegal to take photos there.
@Lost on Earth since long long time ago, even in80s or 90s there's bunch of documentaries about mecca. And only this one telling it's forbidden to shoot. LMAOOOOO
GASPED!!!!
When the guy showed people sleeping outside, he made it appear that people slept outside because of shortage of sleeping areas but in reality Mustalifa is an outdoor place where people are expected to spend the night outdoors. If Saudi government wanted it has the money go give each person someone to sleep. Second he presented the whole video as if he was the only person who succeeded in filming the Hajj whereas there are millions of cameras there.
12:37 i too felt like it looks like an apocalyptic mess once, asked my dad who already performed the hajj about it, and my dad replied "where else can you see an apocalypse event where people are still in order? it was all about patience" i was like damnnn. he said the hajj system is getting better these days
"we snuck a camera into mecca to film the hajj" they make it seem so dangerous and dramatic as if it's something illegal to do.
But it is. They have the official broadcast in Saudi Arabia (as I have learned now) and while you are right about the drama being weird (kind of click bait but I think he didn't write the title) he is right about everything he says. It's illegal to film but he obviously didn't go out of his way to film some secret organization but I can appreciate a unique story.
Arcaryon my dad went to hajj last year and he filmed there freely without anyone telling him otherwise. It’s completely okay to film the only reason why people might make it seem like it’s not is because it’s not about the legality, it’s about the hajj’s process. You shouldn’t film your pilgrimage in some cases because it’s not allowed as a hajj procedure
@@Abdulmalik12341 You can but you should keep the cameras small.
"
The authorities disapprove of you taking pictures inside the mosque in both Mecca and Medina. If you are caught they may ask to view your camera pictures and force you to delete them.
However, with almost everyone now having mobile phone cameras its a losing battle as so many people take snaps from all sorts of vantage point. You are not going to get far by trying to take a big zoom camera to the mosque.
If its sticks out the guards will just frisk you. A relatively small compact camera or mobile phone hidden in your pocket will be totally fine.
The DSLR will be fine when you are doing the tours around the other religious sites."
Again, it's click bait because everyone does it but it is still kind of like that.
Arcaryon that might true but it’s not that deep. I’ve been to makkah and madina myself multiple times and i’ve taken so many pictures there and i’m not gonna lie, one guard actually saw me taking a picture of the kaaba and he gave me a bad look, didn’t say anything to me but he was definitely not happy with me taking a picture and that’s it
@@Abdulmalik12341 I know what you mean. Not that I've ever been (or would go - kinda hard as a paper Christian ) but I am pretty sure everyone has seen that look at some point in their life.

These people are the ummah of our beloved Prophet (saw) who came from different parts of the world dressed in the same garments, irrespective of race, gender or class. Subhanallah! I think the whole “sneaking the camera” trope was just more of a reporter tactic to get westerners more interested by making it seem like some edgy secret mission. Someone pointed out that it makes the ceremony more interesting to people who might otherwise hold a lot of bias or misunderstanding and is a good way to catch people and bring them in to something that they might not regularly learn about. If you’re a non-religious western person you might be more tempted to try and learn about the significance and ritual aspects of something if you have a reason to be “entertained” by it. And you know how we are in the western world. Many of us have adhd and have a hard time maintaining focus for periods of time. I personally thought it was a pretty digestible documentary and he did a great job breaking it down for outsiders. I also really loved reading all of the comments from people’s personal experiences with Hajj. It is clearly an extremely important worldwide event that breaks down (almost) all barriers between humans. Malcom X said that during his Hajj it forced him to reconsider his western perspective on “the race problem” and was shocked to see everyone from blue eye white blondes to the darkest Africans coming together from all over the world with no barriers between them, acting as equals and brothers and sisters. And there have been studies done that show that levels of peace, acceptance, tolerance, and respect among Islamic people and other religions, as well is within Islamic communities for each other as people, men and women, different social classes, etc. have been proven to benefit significantly from this event every year. I think it’s beautiful personally, and I can only imagine how wonderful the experience of making this Pilgrimage would be.

I heard in this video that Muslims go to pray 7 times around the Kaaba Stone in Medina for their sins to be forgiven by Allah at minute 13:22? I heard that. the guy said that they are born again at minute 13:19 ? Thats crazy. That's idolatry and blasphemy to God who created heavens and earth. This is similar to Catholics praying to the so called virgin Mary made of stone, Jesus made of stone and other saints. Don't criticize christians because Islam does the same thing. lol Just saying
@@TorahisLifeandLight No you don't have to go seven times around Kaba for your sins to be forgiven, but if you do its says that ALL your sins would be forgiven and you will be newborn. (God knows best) We pray directly to God and ask for his forgiveness and Kaba is a direction to God and if you became a Muslim all your sins would be forgiven too
@@Kanelkalle i get it but you don't have to pray around a rock to get your sins forgiven anyway. That was my point.
@@TorahisLifeandLight Rather than stating points that you have no knowledge over, please google it. You will find the answer to your argument there. The last place you'll wanna expect a genuine answer is in YT comments.
Why we perform 7 rounds around the Kaaba:
www.arabnews.com/node/272505
Why we stone the pillars:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoning_of_the_Devil
If your still not clear, you can always go to any other reliable source. I hope this helps :)
@@TorahisLifeandLight we don't worship the building, its just the centre of worship for muslims, they are praising and praying to GOD while walking in a circle, making no mention or even thinking about praying to the kaaba or through it, that is strictly prohibited. There is also another kaaba exactly above it in heaven. If you do research you'd find that extremely strict monotheism is at the very heart and the main principle of islam... we don't even put headstones/build on graves, to prevent people from praying to the dead person through the monument. i'm not tryna attack but christians believe god has three forms and one in a human man, who commanded everyone to pray to god and he himself prayed to god! now why would he be praying to himself?

As a fan of vice it's cool to see the beginning of the channel and the videos that were posted 11 years ago .

@world peace I really dont think he even cares
@world peace Not really since there is enormous hotel for the rich and royal almost right outside of the place. These are people who want to do haji in the comfort of their opulent rooms and probably do not care about haji only to prove to others that they are muslims and not get targeted by the royal family.
