I Bought 3 UNTESTED Xbox 360 Consoles from Goodwill... do they work??

- So I bought 3 Xbox 360 consoles from Goodwill (their online auction site). I didn't pay a ton for them, but I also wouldn't call it a "deal" (unless they all work). This is my first time buying from Goodwill's online auction site, so I'm pretty excited to unbox these consoles and try them out. The Xbox 360 is one of my favorite consoles of all time - I played many, many hours on mine. Check out the video to see what Goodwill sent me!

What else should I buy from goodwill? 🤔
Idk,but i just gonna left my comment here.
PSP
Lol

See if they have the original Xbox
thumbnail: ALL RED RING OF DEATH
video: normal
Yeah I've seen another channel doing the same kinda weird clickbaity thumbnails yet the actual vids are genuine and normal
They aren't red rings they are av cable error red ring is 3 red lights not all 4
@@deadlydam finally somebody who knows about this stuff
@@deadlydam no he actually edit it in the thumbnail you can see the red is off a little
@@coolgamer6713 i know but people still think it's a red ring when it's the xbox av error
I find it so amazing that 15 years later, you can buy a more reliable X-Box cheap than you could when new and paying out the butt for it.
These are all the ones that worked decent so were held onto for a long time before being traded in. My original was one of the early ones. The disc drive broke first, then I had RROD shortly after. I sold it spares and repair. Wish I'd kept it looking back, probably could have fixed it.
Ps
I think the later models were actually very reliable. Especially the Slim and later. The old ones also made so much noise, it was horrible.
It's xbox not x-box
@@lenz49 lmao console wars are over
Honestly the blackness on that last one looks like smoke damage, not from a smoker, but a fire. Smoke from cigarettes tends to yellow white plastic, whereas black smoke from say a house fire leaves a black sut on everything.
Makes you wonder if it was recovered property from a house fire or something.
Not exactly smoke damage, looks more like soot. But I agree, it's coming of a building that was on fire. Like a house which had a kitchen fire and the smoke/soot spread through the house. You can see where the disc booklet of the last played game was on top of the console when the fire happened.
It is very common when there was a fire and the place got cleaned by a cleaning company/insurance that consoles like this one are tossed out because cleaning/repairing would cost a lot of money and hours so the Insurance usually just pays money to replace the console.
To get it well cleaned it has to be taken 100% apart to clean out soot, smoke and eventually water damage. Otherwise it might have issues in the future (even causing a new fire as it might get shortened as the chemicals spread in the fire eat their way through the components).
Yeah, I think that they just put a stack of games on top of it and left it
The third one looks like my clothes, after work.
They all look like somebody took a dump on them

After years of owning an og 360, i can give you a tip:
that first one will work fine press to open the tray then give it a slap above the tray and it'll open right up
Lol
That happens because the magnet that holds the disc in place can become too strong and when you hit the top of it you essentially knock the magnet loose for just enough time to open the tray.
@@safetyzone2962 It's usually just the belt getting loose over time. I've replaced that part in two 360 drives (plus some regular PC drives) and they work fine.
@@nastysdsi yup or a good cleaning with alcohol diluted
@@dmo848 You can also boil it, to shrink it a little bit.
Funny enough, the Saw game you found in the second console is worth about $30 loose according to Pricecharting, which pays for the 3 consoles.
You should make a video showing you cleaning/repairing these consoles
Yes he definitely should
I probably will, but I think I'll start with it on my 2nd channel: czcams.com/channels/GWQ8KDbsWTQFfz26cz-r4Q.html
Agreed
I got 5x x360 (Xenon, Falcon, Jasper, Trinity and Winchester) for a bit more than €100. minor issues like stuck dvd tray or non working wireless controller. lots of dust and dirt, the Jasper one with a busted shell. amazing how people just mistreat their stuff that badly and can't evaluate the seriousness of its faults.
Thrift stores can be great for buying consoles. I found the Star Wars R2D2 Xbox 360 for $13. No controller or cables, but it works perfectly. Also found a Japanese slim silver PS2 for $14, but it needs a new motor from what I can tell. It did boot up a few times but then died. I put a new laser in it and then it stopped spinning at all. lol
Even to this day I still don't believe you found a star wars 360 for 13
I didn’t know people still reviewed this console in 2021! Great stuff
I bought a GameCube from a Goodwill once for $30. There was a SSBM disc hidden inside
Man let me tell ya those gamecubes could really take punishment cause there was a time when I accidentally dropped my GameCube down an entire flight of stairs and there wasn't even the slightest of damage to the console it still worked perfectly fine and I never had any big issues with it, I had the console for atleast 10 or 11 years before I sold it

The tray opening and closing on its own is a pretty easy fix. The drive has a sensor that engages wnen it's closed. That tiny switch is probably dirty and because of that the tray doesnt know in which state it is. Cleaning that switch fixes its erratic behaviour. Just don't ask me where that switch is. Im talking from experience with PC-DVD drives that show the same error. There the switch is close to where the tray opens.
Its actually a small rubber band you can see as soon as you peer into the drive itself. Taking it out and gently cleaning it restores the opening process.
You’d think they’d just go round with a cloth before sending out. Ya know, make it look like they care.
Yeah. It's kinda funny because they actually packaged it really well, but couldn't take the extra couple of minutes to wipe it down
Ikr like they just threw in there
Maybe the black stuff is soot that is hard to take off? 🤔
@@MegaFinalRound nah i had the same marks on mine. Its a bit of a scrub, but i didnt use anything besides my fingers, so its probably way easier with said cleaning tools
Sweat stains of the slave workers boxing all these machines up adds value, supposedly.
7:46 seeing that old GameStop case gave me nostalgia
Haven’t even watch the video yet, BUT I know it’s gonna be a banger
Based on my experience and general common sense, usually when video game systems are sold “as-is” they have problems and have been taken apart before. Don’t ever expect a seller to mention that because they never do. eBay is riddled with sellers like that.
Yep that's why I took a close look at these pictures before buying. Doesn't look like these have ever been opened before, or if they were, they were opened very stealthily
My Xbox 360 broke about 2 years ago when I got the red ring of death, I just now got another used Xbox 360 so I'm hoping it lasts me a while
You sure it was the red ring
@@deadlydam yeah it was cause when I would turn it on it immediately gave me the red light on the power button
@@jeffreygamer32 was it 3 lights?
@@jeffreygamer32 if it was 1 or 2 lights, then you’re probably okay, but if it was 3, it’s fucked
The dirt pattern from the third one looks like something that was in a house fire.
We had to beat our old 360 elite like it owed us money, just to get it to play discs. It worked really well up until it didn’t.

Me after buying a used console. 😛
I buy a lot of consoles to fix and repair them. It’s rare but a free game is sometimes included. Happened when I bought a GameCube and the free game was Pokémon Colosseum. Best GameCube of my life!
I love ur xbox 360 unboxing videos lol
You can RGH 1.0 on both of those consoles that are on the older dashboards. The older one is on NXE dash and the other is on Kinect Dash. The newest one is on Metro and will need RGH 1.2, 2.0 or R-Jtag. (Use rgh 1.2, its just better all around)
late comment but several years ago I learned how to get the disc tray to stop becoming stuck and get it out of the constantly opening state. The small black rubber band that works the small pulleys must be removed and cleaned with warm water and hand soap (or a soap bar), not alcohol (as it can burn or even melt the rubber). Just clean the small black rubber band like that, gently dry it off and reinsert it back into the console. Free fix I learned when I was 12 or 13 with my original Xbox and did the same with my white 360 console. Works every time: stops the tray from becoming stuck, hesitant on opening and ends the constant opening mode. No idea who posted the video but he helped me save my consoles and reduced extensive damage.
First one is a Falcon: pretty reliable but not the best
Second one is a Jasper: the most reliable fat, probably will never RROD
Third one is a Zephyr: they're trash
Edit: i'm the guy who sells RGH 360's in your discord
Thanks, I forgot the names for the motherboards. My personal console that I used for years is a jasper. Got it in 2009
i have a launch 360 zephyr i got off of ebay in 2019, it still works surprisingly.
It's probably a late Falcon, which is as reliable as any Jasper. There's no way to know for sure without opening the console and removing the heatsink and thermal paste, though. I have both (although unfortunately, I killed my Falcon with a bad flash some time ago).
Also, some Xenons/Zephyrs are way more reliable than others, depending on the CPU manufacturer/revision.
@@nastysdsi yeah these consoles are luck based I just said what they were known for back in the days
Pretty sure my Elite is a Jasper, I've had it for years and it still runs a treat.
The reason the first disk tray didn’t work is because the drive belt is stretched and it needs opened and a new belt
Surprised he didn't do the tried and true method of banging on the top of the case near the DVD drive to see if it opened.
Exactomundo.
As well as the rrod the early Xbox 360 also had disc drive issues. If you sent your Xbox bAck to Microsoft for the rrod to be fixed sometimes they would also replace the drives, happened to mine. Also pop off the front and you can access the tray eject hole
The reason the light is flashing on that one console is because of the disc drive constantly being opened and closed. The 360’s light flashes while opening the drive
5:30 the shape of the clean area looks like a case, so there could be a game just sitting over there
Good point
Don't update them!!! Those are some rare Dashboards!!!
Yep for sure
Keep the NXE one because the one you made on the last video, it had dashboard version 8955 while the one you bought off goodwill was 9199. They’re the same but the 9199 one is a bit newer.
Dash doesnt matter anymore. Itll either be a KV donor updated to latest dash or RGH'd. ALL dashes and console revisions can be explioyed now except the newset blue COD Coronav3 with 500gb hdd.
Just Got 2 From Goodwill. This video gave me the guts to try. Didn't spend a ton but it's money. If they work. I won big time. I will update when it ships and arrives and I test them both
Update: they Both worked! No games like yours lol but power and sync. The disc tray was issue. Pryed it open with knife. Put my hard drive and wireless modem in it. Updated and then I could open and close disc tray with the remote control. Got 2 black elites for 15.50 plus tax and free fed ex shipping. Beyond happy. Thanks again
Strange, that second one hasn't been used since 2011 or something and it's disc tray hasn't fixed itself, yet when my Xbox 360 (20/11/2008 for reference) had a similar issue in 2018 (I replaced it very quickly) and didn't use it for like a year and a half but it did fix itself at some point.
Though it still needs to be weighed down to open the tray, that's not going to self-fix on any old Xbox 360, so it's a shame that all of them are like that now (or don't open for any reason really) .
Those original 2005 Xbox 360's are sexy
in the first one just remove the front panel and put office clip in the little hole under disc tray and it should open... pretty old method used in old PCs cd roms but i always used it in my xbox 360 that had that issue since i bought it and it still works
The older models that have the hdmi ports are the earliest revision and some modders prefer these models.
Why did they REMOVE HDMI?
no the earliest revision is a Xenon and it has no hdmi
The 3rd one's shell looks like it may have came from a house of a smoker and had something set on top of the 360 causing those lines. To really get the shells looking like how they originally were I recommend watching a tutorial from Oddtinkering
I used to always hear about this "wrapping a towel around it" trick. I of course.....would never actually try that Has anyone here ever tried that?
@@raymondswenson5529 I thought that was something for the rrod but I wouldn't know for sure because I've only had my black xbox 360 for about a month now.
@@raymondswenson5529 I heard it would only solve the issue temporarily
11:56 I actually had an Xbox 360 that had that same issue. When I bought my 360 slim in 2011 my disc drive kept opening up by itself so I had to exchange it.
My Xbox 360 has a stuck eject button and on the inside it has loose pieces of plastic but from the outside looks pristine and runs great and cleaned it
My friend sold me their xbox360 slim for $30, not only that, it works almost perfectly( it’s very loud when playing a disc )they gave me games with it and a controller that works plugged in, I will get it fixed eventually but other than that, it work fine and i love it.
12:30 can u send my saw game back😂
jk u can keep it, but i was looking for it and couldn't find it, so im happy they ended up on ur channel.
I think you should make a video to fix the 2 xbox's with disc tray issues and refurbish them i think that would be really entertaining
I have a Xbox 360 fat. It was my uncle's. But he never came back for it. So it's mine now lol
lol
I mean what's the weirdest thing you ever bought from Goodwill I would love to see a video on that
I haven't purchased much from goodwill recently lol so not gonna be too interesting right now
Thx a lot man i can finally get a 360 cause you told me this website thx man
The third one you better never update. That’s a golden item right there.
Hey that saw game holds value i usually see it for like $15-40 depending on condition.
Shoot you're right. I just looked it up on ebay and there's one that's disc only listed for just under $20
The second XBox with 12V 12A is a Jasper, one of the most reliable consoles.
My xbox 360 disc tray used to get stuck so 7 yr old me used to shove a butter knife in it it used to open as well lol
Man.. the manufacture date for the 2nd Xbox is 7 days before I was born lol
Mate your comment makes me feel so old, I was already 9 and a half when this 360 Jasper was manufactured lol XD
The nostalgia from looking at those dashboards....
Great video!
1st one is a Falcon, can get the RRoD.
2nd one is a Jasper, think it might even be a Kronos - definitely a keeper! They basically don't get the RRoD; they run very cool.
3rd one is a zephyr, 2nd revision after the Xenon and susceptible to the RRoD
But yeah, they need taking apart and cleaning, esp. the DVD drives. For the one that wouldn't open, just replace the rubber band on the opening mechanism. They get worn and stretched after a time. Think you got a nice deal there. Have fun!
The jasper and kronos can definetly get the rrod, but it is unlikely
Xbox 360 Tip: If the console is sideways, the disk drive might not work properly until it is flipped right side up with the HDD Drive on the top and/or the power button on the bottom.
Can u make a video to connect with xbox app by setting up console choice instead of sign In I forgot my password Can u help please
I used to work at Goodwill, they don't test anything.
you're so lucky with the dashboards. how do you get all those nxes?
You should do a compilation of all of your Xbox 360 consoles
The silver tray ones are the original 👌 and unfortunately I was still playing SNES, ps1 Sega and og Xbox while my older siblings upgraded 😢 😔
My xbox 360 E has the stuck on opening. Have you found a fix? If you did you think you could show me/us?
Wow man awesome video
i am seing your channel for the first time and your icon looks like an intendo mii
Most people judge the older xbox 360 models like saying oh no all of them do the red ring when I've owned a 2007 xbox 360 elite for a couple years and it's done the red ring only once
3 working consoles andddd 2 games, nice!!
7:56 - 17511, Metro-R, very late, nothing special
11:11 - 12625, Kinect, early, 2011
13:54 - 9199, last NXE version, 2010
if the disc tray does not work i just slap my xbox on top of the disc tray and it works just give it some smacks and it will work it wont fix it but it will oopen the disc tray and when you put disc in it works my xbox 360 has the same issue(Only works on 1st xbox shown in video)
Restoration video soon? :)
A Kinect and NXE dash, those are quite rare finds nowadays.
I still have one and it has the warranty sticker I believe I have four at my house

The one you dared most was the only one that actually allowed you to put the disc in and work at the same time
On the 3rd the mark on top is probably from the blu ray player you could buy as an accessory.

Without the external hdd there can't be a account on the console the stuff that is stored is only the dashboard data and that's on the motherboard like a bios
Not true. The newer Arcade consoles had a built in memory unit.
The dirty Xbox definitely had a game box in one position on it for years
I hate that the 2007 model has a hdmi but the 2006 model doesn't thank god i recently got a free 2008 model

I used to have a 360 and never had an issue with it. Unfortunately, my mom made me sell it, because apparently I "didn't play on it any more," considering it was at my grandparents and I used it every time I was at their house.
Considering it was your Xbox she had no right to make you do that

Ever since I saw the “leaked” video of him dirtying the dkoldies ps3 because it was too clean, I don’t really watch him as much as I used to
I still have a working Xbox 360, yes I too am surprised
Ey my brother did the same too he found the elite console w/o the hard drive so sad lol. But it had no wires or nothing but we did so we were like would it work? And we tested it and it worked real well and it had CoD ghost which was cool. But I noticed a couple things like someone did try to get in the system and royally failed like the chewed up the top most tab (the one closest to the hdd) and it was running quite hot but not to much air was coming from it and the fans were on. Oh and the drive was fickle too it did that too where it would open but close right after. I did fix most of those things lol first the "heat issue" I took it apart one Saturday seeing hmmm is it Dusty? Oh....ooooh it was when I opened it, it had a decent layer of dust covering everything and worse on the heat sinks. I was like oh GOD... Little machine is resilient lol. I have a awesome air compressor to blow all the dust off and when I did a big plume of dust came out and I was like "huh it was dustier than I gave it credit for...." so I gave the whole board and fans well all of it some heavy dusting and cleaning. Put it all back together and let it run was waaay cooler I was able to notice right there. Now the disc tray the fix I did I'm sure you've done it where you change the square cut rubber band so it grips again and is actually elastic again. That helped a lot it was more reliable but that part where it would just shut itself was tiresome after a while. What I found that everyone should do because Microsoft for whatever reason just not put lubricant on the disc tray so get yourself some white lithium grease and just put it all on the slidey parts and that problem never came back the motor now has enough force to trigger a sensor it has in the optical drive to well tell the xbox "hey it's out fully you can switch to close tray" on the dashboard. The case.......well I really didn't mind it too much since the internet adaptor kinda covers it all. But the big thing to know if you care for your system and your keeping it take it apart, clean it, lubricate the parts that need it, and check for parts that can wear. Boom your system can last almost forever
What BenQ Monitor is this? If you don’t mind me asking
