Great vid! My question relates to the controls that are available for the air s3. Would you think that they both work the same regarding signal strength and distance? I have a TRIPLTEK t82 that I love to use with my other drones. Very bright and big screen, only neg is weight, which doesn't bother me a bit. So I would like to go with the cheaper controller as long as it has the same performance as the one with the screen.

Hello Billie, great video - also the range test in the desert. Like it so much. I have one important question. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max which I use with my DJI Air 2S. I would like to move to the Air3. Fo you know whether the range and (video) transmission will be the same with controller with or without screen? As both have I think the same amount of antennas? Because my iPhone had mir Nits that the screen controller.

Minor point as I haven't used it properly yet...but the RC2 (screen), the control sticks are a lot more of a faff to put in as instead of screwing IN directly, you have to screw on to a little screw ON the controller... I've dropped them twice, a problem I didn't have on the N2 controller (on my Mini 2, which annoyingly was stolen!)

Question: I am a solidly Apple person, and have successfully totally avoided Android. But, the built-in screen has strong merits. How annoying would it be to go with the RC-2?
Asked another way, is the built-in screen worth, what for me would be, the pain of taking on and learning and using a different operating system, setting up a new app store account, re-purchasing drone apps I already have for my Apple platforms, etc.?
The only reason why dji would upgrade transmission is probably to guarantee you will not lose signal strength over distance and to also maximize object penetration efficiency. This applies to all the madmans who fly 15km just for the sake of it and then post a dumb complaint. I hope a future o4+ transmission will have 2.7k video. Also @Billy Kyle o4's frequencies include 5.1ghz, so it's 2.4, 5.1 and 5.8ghz frequencies.

So, as always a great video Billy, BUT why isn't anyone asking about the Goggles Integra or Goggles 2 and motion controller 2?? I just bought the Integra and thought it SHOULD work on my new AIR 3 but no option for it in the goggles menu. Any news?
Is there an update to this video now that the Mini 4 Pro shipps with the RC2? Is there a new firmware coming for the Pro controller? It seems like DJI are releasing everything BUT the premium options.
@ Billykyle The newest controller has a built in cooling fan also.
i ordered an AIR3 and now have found out that this controller does not have an HDMI port . I use this port on my Air 2S to show clients on a Larger monitor what is going on. Think I will return the Air3 when it arrives tomorrow because I really use this larger screen alot !
Great video explaining the DJI remote ecosystem. From an engineering perspective, I think there is a high probability that DJI will release a firmware update for the RC Pro to enable Occusync 4 compatibility. The DJI RC Pro has a powerful 64-bit CPU and GPU, along with the same 2T4R antenna system as the new DJI RC2 remote. I do not think there will be the same technical incompatibility problem that occurred with the DJI Crystal Sky monitor and the original Mavic Pro/Platinum and the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom with the original DJI Smart Controller. The technical incompatibility was caused by the Crystal Sky chip architecture being 32-bit while the Smart Controller was 64-bit which is what Occusync 2.0 required. With all that being said, I think DJI will also release an RC Pro 2 transmitter in the near future to provide a premium transmitter option.
Great video but you might have underestimated the new RC-2 controller. According to DJI, it has a next-gen processor for snappier performance. I find the RC is slow with commands compared to the RC Pro. Did you notice better performance running the app compared to the RC?
Looks like me like the the DJRC would be the worst because it just has internal antennas I myself don't think they would be better than externals?

I have the rc pro controller. It used os3. I can get over 27,000 feet range. More than enough. So why would dji feel the need to release os4? By law, we can not even fly beyond vlos. So wtf use is to have os4 for further range when you are breaking the law. The only reason they need to release os4 is to sell more controller and get more money. If they stick to os3, people will just buy the drone only and use their controller. By releasing os4, we are force to buy the newest controller to fly os4 drones. Smh
They are very wise to the consumer treadmill, it is evident in their release strategy. I agree with you on the range issue, if they don't wise up regulatory regimes are going to get even more restrictive.
Penetration... besides, no one is expected to "upgrade" to the Air 3 from last years drones. If you have Occusynch 2, then upgrade.

we all know it is about a good connection with obstructions , but DJI themselves keep harping on about further and further flight distance, I wish DJI would stop advertising this way and just say a better signal connection , politicians , lawmakers etc just see distances in the specs and end up thinking we cant have this and end up making some new law to restrict us even more @@CrashOut328i
Yup. The extra range is just a marketing buzz word to promote the drone haha. The true upgrade is penetration.

I have (an Inspire 1, a DJI FPV and Avata) + a Mini 3 Pro (O3), a Mavic 3 Cine (O3+), a Mavic 3T (O3 Enterprise) and not the Inspire 3 which is O3 Pro... I think my setup is quite enough (for several years) and don't plan to add Air 3 and new O4 transmission.
What are the real differences between those O3 protocols?
Please note that Mini 3 (standard version, not the Pro version) is O2, but compatible with DJI RC-N1 and DJI RC, ... but not with DJI RC Pro.
Same thing regarding the DJI FPV, has been only compatible with DJI Goggles V2 for at least 2 years, but is now compatible with Goggles 2 and Integra with the last upgrade. And DJI Avata was compatible with all goggles (V2, 2, Integra) since the beginning of sales.
Last thing, Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 can be used with Goggles 2 and Integra, but still no words about the new Air 3.
Sometimes DJI is uncoherant on what they propose, or this is also just commercial and marketing interests.
Only problem with the new rc. Is that it’s only able to be used with the aid3 only as it’s in oc 5
You missed a very important point between 03 and 04 transmission there is a new frequency in the o4 Transmission
Can you livestream using the RC2 controller? One of the reasons why I want RC Pro is because of the live stream function.

You also missed a confusion with DJI O3+ Video Transmission , that the Google v2 uses and the DJI FPV RC 2.
Didn't mention that the RC's with the screen do not have access to 3rd party apps.
Like so many other things, even lawnmowers, there are so many choices that it confuses people wanting to get into the hobby. I suspect the Air 3 is a waste of money as well as the N-2 unless it is one's first quality drone. I once had to have the latest and greatest sport camera, phone, and drone, however, I now have all I could ever need with the Mavic 3, Mini 3 Pro, RC Pro, Go Pro 9, Insta360 X3, and Note 20 Ultra. One reason is that I don't make money with any of them, but have been into photography all my 77 years, and I can no longer blow money the way I once did.

You didn’t mention the performance differences. I’m finding the RC2 to be faster all-round and I’m not too bothered about selling my RC Pro from my previous system as a result. The screen isn’t as bright as the pro though.
Is the range the same for the RC-N2 vs the RC-2? Im curious if the external antennas on the RC 2 make a difference.

Yes, I would be interested to know that as well if the RCN2 same as the RC2. Previously the RCN1 was slightly better than the RC.
I was going to buy the mini 3 PRO 2 months ago with the pro control (or what its called) , but then i raptured my knee ligament. Only good thing with that is that the air 3 came out. Jus 200 euro more with the standard control . Will i miss alot by not buying the control with the screen ?
No. Stupid easy to connect a phone. More control with the app and custom Apps as well as online maps are available always

I use the 2nd port for audio frequently, if they removed that function in the rc2 I would never get it; I mean the second one is absent on the new rc but I don't know what the single is capable of. Thx for bringing that up.

Thanks for the video. Many people are going to be confused or at least concerned with the choices. But one thing for sure, DJI is excellent at marketing. It seems very likely (sure?) that a RC pro replacement will come along. This may well look a lot like the current model. Inside it is bound to have a much upgraded cpu since the current one is quite old as computer tech goes and modifications to allow occusync 4 to work--maybe it will be backwards compatible with OC 3. It seems that this could be part of some new drone model to give it some legs--its not a compelling product if limited to the Air 3 since this is a fairly small market. Let's wait and see.
I hope they just make the RC Pro compatible with the Air 3. It’s already way better than the RC 2 still. No need for an upgrade.

"With" I think you meant to say the RC Pro becoming compatible with the A3. DJI has recently said that will never happen. Many people (me) have spent bank on the RC Pro. And many people like me won't give it up for a little more BVLOS with the new controller.
I have an A 2S, a M3 Classic and a $1200 RC Pro. The A3 is not compatible with the RC Pro. Funny, those guys that will spend bank on the latest and greatest and they haven't even com close to mastering what they already have. There are TONS of people out there that fit that description. Me? I'm not about giving DJI my paychecks so I can brag to my buddies. But hey, more power to those guys. These two drones do EVERYTHING I need them to do because I've done my homework and invested quality time. At least at this point, I don't see myself shelling out the greenbacks for the A3. Thanks for the great videos.

What is the story with 5.170-5.250 GHz transmission? I see it is something that is on the Air 3 but not mentioned on the Mavic 3 Pro in the DJI comparison page. It does say: "5.170-5.250 GHz can be used only in countries and regions where it is allowed by local laws and regulations." Is it something we are able to take advantage of in the US?
I'm pretty sure that the RC Pro will become compatible, I'm just concerned over how well it'll work. We had a similar situation with the Smart Controller and the Air 2s... it wasn't ideal...😅

I Just sold my Air 2 with SC for $600 literally on the day my Air 3 arrived. I Hope I like it no turning back lol. Had my Air 2 since 2020 and loved it, I have never flown with a phone only the SC. No issues with distance in my exp. Penetration was 💯 garbage tho.
@@RandyCAstleMPM Well, me and Billy probably fly differently than you do. We tend towards large cities and urban areas. I also had huge issues using the Smart Controller with the Air2s.

I just upgraded from my Phantom 4 pro plus (which I've had for almost 8 years) to the air 3. The Phantom had limited range, especially flying around tree and things. I hope the Air 3 does a better job.
My Air 2S can get 2 miles in the suburbs of North Texas with the RC controller. Should be easy with the Air 3.
You will probably end up being amazed by the improvement of the distance you can fly :)
I have a couple of aging P4Ps and a bag of $185 batters to burn thru, but I have to believe that virtually anything DJI has produced within the last couple of years has to be have better penetration that the occusyc 1 controllers

Which one makes my Mini 2 go 27 miles?
I am looking at getting the Controller RC 2 here soon for my DJI Mavic 3 Classic. I will use the RC 1 that came with my classic and I was planning to use it with my Air 2s which I bought last year. Sadly, I highly doubt that DJI will somehow magically make the DJI RC Pro 1 compatible with OcuSync 4 or a few more years down the road to OcuSync 5.
We're going to have to buy new controllers every time DJI decides to upgrade the OcuSync versions. DJI should offer a slot on their controllers where we can purchase the upgraded OcuSync for a reasonable price and do a quick swap out and upgrade our controllers we paid a lot of money for. I doubt that will happen anytime soon.
I suspect OcuSync 4 is backwards compatible with OcuSync 3 and if not then honestly DJI really screwed their customers. They only released the new RCN1 a year and a bit ago and I know many budget pilots opted to invest into the controller, believing they would be able to use it for a few more iterations, they only released the new DJI Mavic 3 pro drones like 2 months ago, they knew they had OcuSync 4 in the works. Many pro drone pilots would likely have wanted to invest in a Mavic 3 pro and an Air 3 as a back up and DJI knows this. They should have worked in some backwards compatibility. This staggered update release where none of the products truely reach a good level of equilibrium is most defiantly a business strategy with each new release slightly upgrading over the others it pulls people into questioning if they should buy the current drone thats in their budegt, stretch it a little for the model up or wait till the next release that'll have a new controller or new battery design forcing you to buy the fly more combo again. Constantly finding ways to up sell you.

Billy, it would have been nice & practical to have the addition of a 5D button to control exposure.
You would think they would allow one of the buttons to control exposure without hitting 2 buttons, like you could on the original RC controller. But DJI's logic has down down the drain this past year.
@ianzinnerphoto The auto/pro screen button is too close to the expo setting & while changing the expo setting it is very easy to inadvertently hit the auto/pro button & wham video clip ruined.

I found the Mavic 2 Zoom with the 4D button much more successful in controlling the exposure through the clip@@ianzinnerphoto
I found the Mavic 2 Zoom with the 3D button set to exposure much more functional than this controller. I also found that the Go4 app was much more stable than the Fly app. I have had a lot of crashes with the app in WayPoints starting a mission. Tapping on the screen to get focus @ a point can also sometimes put a jerk in the video. Their algorithm for the fly app certainly still needs some tweaking.
Love how the Air 3 is DARKER than Air 2S but NOT AS DARK as Mavic 3 Series. DARKER = AWESOMER in DJI world. How dark of a drone do YOU need, sir?
For me, 80% of the time that I fly it’s in controlled airspace where there are restrictions and I need to unlock the ability to fly. The only remote I can use is the one that uses your phone because all of the other DJI remotes don’t give you that flexibility on the spot. Is that not something you ever run into?
I don’t run into it frequently but I know what you mean. It’s so much easier to unlock from your phone that has a dedicated LTE/5g connection
Just use your hotspot thru your phone for the other controls works every time for me Rc pro works the best and the fastest to work with
@@mikehays6526 Interesting, I wasn't aware that if you're able to use your phone as a hotspot that it allows the other DJI remotes to quickly unlock and fly in more difficult restricted zones. I wonder why DJI has never suggested that when I've talked to their customer service. They have always told me you have to use flysafe in advance, get the permission, upload to the remote etc. Which doesn't work for me with the volume of aerial shooting I do and the flexibility I need when plans change... But appreciate the heads up, I'll look into that more
I'm waiting for someone to do a comparison of the new RC2 vs RC-N2. The obvious advantage of the RC2 is the screen, but at 700 nits, it's temping to just get the RC-N2 and use my Tripltek 8 Pro at 1200 nits. What are some advantages of the RC2 that could make me get it over the RC-N2 to use with my tablet?
Quick set up time and a better form factor

My guess is the RC Pro gets upgraded to O4 or at lease it will still be able to fly 04 drones.

I wanted to order an Air3 (I owned an Air2s until now) but when I found out that the Air3 is not compatible with the RC Pro I use with the Air2s I ordered the Mavic 3 Classic and I'm happy 😂😂
The Mavic 3 Classic is the sweet spot in the lineup..great pic quality and 3X zoom.
So this is like the fifth video that I watched until the fifth video that doesn't mention how you have to pay for the go fly out now it's a service monthly weekly or one-time payment of $65 but no mention of that in the five videos that I've watched just none no mention at all that's pretty cool.

Like dji did with Smart Controller, they made it backward compatible to P4V2. I cant see why a 4 antenna Drone wont comm with a 6 antenna RC or visa versa. The only downside is a shorter range. The ranges for OC 3 are 12km so range really shouldn't be an issue. What i believe has happened is dji wanted to get Air3 and RC2 out the door and make sales. If they tried making other RCs and drones all talk that would take more R&D and time and would simply have delayed the release of Air3. Now that Air3 is out, im confident in a month or so we will see new firmware to address all this. This shit is not rocket science any more to them
It would be great if dji could include hdmi port which is very much needed for livestreaming works.

We finally arrived to the diminishing returns in drones, don't expect anything better than the M3 4/3 anytime soon. DSLRs on the last 10+ years have improved a ton on autofocus, but my R6 image quality is not way beyond my 6D quality, same for the R6 MkII vs any of them.
I just wish the Rc pro had a better antenna system. Sometimes I'd rather use my controller with my phone.
Its easy to go 5+ miles with the RC Pro, what more do you want?

BTW, I and millions of others pay for CZcams Premium to avoid all the idiotic ads, so it comes as quite a disappointment to see people starting to add ads directly into their content. Easy to jump ahead to avoid this nonsense as I always do but it seems advertisers are using content providers to ensure their ads are seen. From your point of view, I completely understand but still, I personally don't like it
If this continues to happen, I for one will remove my subscription to those particular channels. For you I guess, it's a tradeoff.....

I don’t really care about distance. I have m3pro with RC Pro. Fly it nearly every single day for work. I lose connection when I am flying on real estate shoots of acreage homes and stuff when there are hills. If the drone goes a little bit behind a hill or something I’ll lose connection and only be say 500-2000ft away.

They could have implemented 4 Watts transmit power many years ago which has been FCC limit for decades, but no, while they make some improvements on algorithms, they have not maxed out the 4 watt transmit power. Instead Mavic is increasing transmit power slightly with each generation while combining with newer algorithms and antenna array in order to make it more compelling to upgrade.

I was so excited for the Air 3, until the controller 😒. I have the Pro for my 2s, love it but it is freakin expensive. Come on DJI, obviously they have the technoIogy. I understand the other remotes, but you can't tell me they can't make the Pro compatible. What really gets me is the Pro is $1200, the difference in price (at B&H) of the Air 3 with and without the RC 2 is $200, so the Pro is 6 times !!! the price of the RC 2, but not compatible with drone, really!!
Ive had my rc pro for 18 months. It’s literally been terrible. No end of issues, never the same and virtually impossible to get video off it. I had a replacement 6 months ago and it’s as bad!

these new remotes are running the same frequencies, so I have to think they just want to force the consumers to purchase the new ones at least during launch until they decide to update the firmware and make them compatible. normal big corp money grab.
