- Illumicrate has a new subscription and it's the perfect addition to their product lines. I've had so many comments in the past few years asking for recommendations for a horror book box subscription, well here it is!
The first box is called Evernight, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one. I love the customisation to this book, it's something new and fresh and SPOOKY.

I am not into horro but this edition is much better than my afterlight books. crying right now. they should have done this kind of upgrade on afterlight books too.

I think we are all in shock at the quality of the Evernight book!! It is stunning! I’ve just received my Evernight and Afterlight box and the Evernight box is SO much better than any Afterlight box I’ve had! I’m also so excited to see what Evernight release in October!!
Aww that's such a shame about Afterlight, I love the concept of the box
The thing I loved about it is that as I was reading all the design elements they chose came up; the pattern on the sprayed edges, the foiling on the hardcover, and the endpapers. It was really fun to have little realisations of ohhhh thats what that is. I felt like the people involved had actually read the book rather than just making it pretty.
I am beyond jealous! I didn’t get the subscription first round so I’m hoping to get it for the next one!
I feel so lucky to be on it, so many people missed out, I didn't think it would sell out!
IM SO HAPPY 😭😍 I was so worried it would take a while for the horror sub to shine. But I just NEEDED a horror sub (quarterly is perfect too).
But I’m OBSESSED! Illumicrate really smashed the first book! The silver, the quality edges, the endpapers and THE FOILING ✨ honestly so good, the attention to detail. It all works so well.
Illumicrate really are giving other book subs a run for their money. I just hope they can keep up with this standard across the board.
Like others have said, Afterlight has taken a long time to come into its own. We’re starting to see redesigned covers and beautiful edges though so I’m hoping this is now getting the love it deserves too (the items maybe take up some budget).
It’ll be a good end of the year/2024 if IC produce books like this across all 3 subs!❤

Holy crap, I'm stunned by the quality of customizations in this book! If they keep up the quality for the next couple boxes I'm really gonna consider adding this subscription and dropping one of my current ones.

Ooooh I LOVE Silvia Moreno-Garcia. A librarian friend of mine has read this and has said it’s quite good. I might need to hunt this down secondhand 🤩

oh wow I'm so impressed by this edition!!! I was really disappointed with Afterlight and the (lack of) detail in customisation of the books so I was waiting to see if Evernight was any better before I joined a waitlist... might be time to sign up now!
also I'm so sad I've missed out on a Silvia Moreno-Garcia SE 😭 I also did not know this was even coming out!
I love the concept of Afterlight but I've never felt like I've missed out, but this one is absolutely a new fav. Such a good book to start with. Can't believe we've got pen signed SMG and Martha Wells recently, what a dream!
I agree that the afterlight box has been really underwhelming! I think their pick of authors like Ali Hazelwood is the only thing keeping me subscribed at the moment. I don’t think any of the items haven’t wowed me either. The only thing I’ve used is the pink bullet journal/notepad that we got months ago 😂

Thank god I watched this video, because my copy is not signed and I thought this was how it was supposed to be. Damn! I love the endpapers and the naked hardback so much! Did not expect such a beautiful edition either!

Your joy was palpable, and the book looks amazing! I love seeing book boxes do genres that aren’t as commonly seen in the book box world. I’m not even a huge horror reader but almost I even want this 😂❤ it’s gorgeous!
I went on the waitlist for this in May, didn't get the July box. I would have loved to have got this one, I have had my eye on this book! The symbol embossed on the cover is the Helm of Awe, which is from Norse mythology.
I currently have a monthly horror subscription with the Abominable Book Club, which I have been with for 2 years. The books are just standard hardbacks or paperbacks, but are often signed and you get extra stuff too!

@Wanderness I'm sure I could recommend you something, horror is my favourite genre since I discovered Stephen King many years ago! What kind of horror are you interested in? Are there any particular books you have really enjoyed?
Nightworms is a really decent subscription box! They send two books, tea or coffee, and stickers 😂

I’m so jelly!! I signed up almost right away to join the waitlist for evernight when they announced it and yet I wasn’t quick enough as I didn’t make their cut to get it. 😢 What a beautiful book! Hopefully I get a spot on this subscription soon!

I didn't know this was a thing! I don't read fantasy and there aren't really many boxes out there outside of that so I may have to check this out!

Wow girl you got this one up quick! I’ll admit I’ve not delved into horror much and am a little worried I won’t like this one, but the book is gorgeous and those end papers 😱😍 I think IC have said the books will be signed or book plates. A nice strong start for IC. FL have a lot to live up to for the Romantasy box
I've only really read Stephen King horror, and his sons books, but I've always enjoyed it when I've read it so I'm excited :)
I think I am going to be most excited about this subscription. I haven't even gotten my July one yet and already excited about the October one, whatever it is.

Damn I joined the waitlist too late hopefully I get an invite for the next ever night! I’ve only got afterlight and they only started stepping up their customisations with the May and July books but everything else before that was quite plain so exciting to see evernight is getting the full treatment straight away!
I only knew about the lack of customization to Afterlight after chatting to people in the comments of this video, having been a main box sub only I'm shocked!
I just had to bite the bullet and buy it off of ebay. I don't even think they offer it in the US yet. Hopefully soon! I need more beautiful editions that are not YA :P
Twisted Retreat has not disappointed so far and I'm waiting to get onto Nightworms.

I got the twister retreat subscription horror box for pretty much the same reason, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I have to omit I’ve only read one book that I’ve gotten so far from the box but I did really enjoy it. It’s just hard to pick up a horror book when I have so many sci-fi and fantasy books on my shelf.
What was the book that you got that you enjoyed? I need recommendations 😂
@@Wanderness it’s called when the night bell tolls. I also really liked the Devil makes three, so that gives you an idea of my horror tastes.
What a beautiful book. I loved Mexican Gothic and am reading Certain Dark Things. I usually do not read horror and do not know where to start. Any recommendations?
The most horror book I've read really is N0S 4R2, which I recommend as a winter read!

I’m somewhat disappointed I didn’t get this one when I got the waitlist email but I’m generally not a horror reader. However, I’m a little annoyed with Illumicrate for how much they done for Evernight compared to what they are doing with Afterlight. The customisations for Afterlight are very limited compared to this, and it’s sad that the company seems not to value Afterlight as much (plus the items this month were pretty rubbish).
I've had so many comments about Afterlight this month but I can't find any unboxing videos, are you able to link me to one so I can have a look to compare?
@@Wanderness this months only arrived today / dispatched yesterday so I don’t think there’s any up for this months yet. I can send photos of the items / book as I took some earlier for one of the book box groups on Facebook.

I start to think that they take the money from the regular/ya boxes and they put more budget in these book only boxes, like this and the adult box of fairyloot. Really. This book have much more quality than the monthly box was, and fairyloot every time present a ver very good and stuning adult book, the ya monthly box become meh 😅 or I see too much in this?
Maybe they feel like they need to wow more when it's book only 🤔
@@Wanderness Maybe, but then at least they should make sure the book’s quality is remain the same. I’m not sure what the ya book only subscribers will feel when they get the july book, with the cheap dustjacket. And some of them pay even more based on where they live
Yeah I hated that box but surprisingly got a lot of comments saying I was too negative, even though I said the decline in quality was understandable due to increased production costs, so I think mostly people are OK with it
