    So... I feel really ridiculous about it now, but about a year ago, when all I was brave enough for, was Marimo moss balls, I was about 3 clicks away from PURCHASING duck weed, because it was listed as "an easy beginner plant", which now makes me chuckle heartily... and thank god I was talked out of that, by the friendly tube-chatters... They assured me I'd end up with it anyway, (as well as pest snails), if I didn't QT my plants... I did not QT my plants, as instructed, because I didn't have fish in there yet, and here we are 8 months later... They were right, and not only did I get it in THAT tank, but I'm pretty sure the stuff grows wings, because it's transferred to different parts of the house, that don't even use the same equipment! That stuff is magical, and horrifyingly prolific! 😂 Great video though! 😃

    Great video got a few googles of some of the plants you showed cool to see googling “red root floater” your CZcams channel is one of the 3 that pop up :P anyway got a question for you if you don’t mind. I have a small tank with a light fluval I planted 3 plant types had some white worms then a little algae do i did my first water change 90% (no fish) since then which has been 4-5 days the algae like exploded all over all the plants and the walls and i haven’t seen a worm either. We’re they keeping it at bay? Anyway my Monte Carlo clump...lol is all algae my Bacopa is covered as well. Does too much ferts or light or water change make the algae worse? I’m gonna rewatch your algae vid i saw and check if you have more as well. Oh i also put the carbon bag in the filter area that came with the tank could that have done it. Super sorry for all this text you don’t need to answer it all i know time is valuable hope your havin a good day

      Would adding a moss ball help prevent it? Once its taken care of that is

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  Před 4 lety +3

      Moss wont help, however water changes do, also the worms....im guessing theyre feeding on algae and that fish would eat them all up in theory ...so i wouldnt worry about them too much now.
      Id make sure your light is only on 8 hours or less... then toss a dark towel or blanket over the tank if it gets light from the room the other odd 16 hours of the day (algae only needs ambient light, where as the plants need direct light....so your best bet is to add more fast growing plants...to suck up the nutrients in that water before the algae can....and the secret there is the carbon (so good work!) ...if you really want , you can add liquid carbon or flourish excell (algaecide)....however i always push for a week with the limited lights, good water changes of 100% or more throughout the week (30% x 4 days for example)...
      Because once you add chemicals they kind of mask your problems. They help and often fix algae for a few weeks, but the underlying bacteria and nutrient balance doesnt get fixed...it actually gets worse and then you need more chemicals over and over.
      Give my algae videos a few looks over... theres 2 or 3 that discuss how i handle it (the most popular one is a bit unfocused and i ramble on about other info too...but for some reason it's the one google and youtube show first.... but dig on my channel specifically and i have 500+ videos of info that should help.
      If you're still struggling in 10 days after trying the steps and or a 16 hour a day black out schedule.... message me and we will work it out for you.
      Don't get discouraged...it's very common, it's natural to occur 1 to 2x as you cycle up and then if done well - it acts as a place holder of algae spores/cells so that nasty black, red, brown or blue bacterial algae dont take over.
      Green algae is 100% fish safe and just unsightly.
      Plants i recommend for sucking up nutrients quickly.... any floating plants, stem plants or lastly rhizome plants that dont need roots.
      Water sprite, guppy grass, water lettuce, water cabage, red root floaters, salvinia, rotalas, ludwigias and bacopas/cabombas... they all suck up that extra nitrate concentration in the water...as long as they get 4 hours to 12 hours (im recommending 8) of light and have co2, or carbon in dissolved form to use as building blocks to out compete algae.
      Good luck!

    Which stem plants can I put in a coarse sand which will have soil at the bottom? Some plants I tried earlier when it was only sand kind of melted in the portion that was inside the sand and floated. And what is low ight and hight light?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  Před 3 lety +1

      Basically you need to get the plant roots within half an inch of nutrient rich soil layers... and if you have more than an inch or two of sand, that can choke out many plants roots. I'd say the worst plants for sand are rotala, ludwigia, Limnophilia, and many stem plants in general honestly... now if that nutrient layer is rich quality and the sand isn't too deep, then I'd recommend aponogeton plants, crypts, hygrophilas and sword plants.
      As for light, low light Is the lights that come in aquarium kits, then lights generally in the 50 to 100 dollar range are medium and if you spend over 150 or 200 you are usually getting into high light strengths . However, I did a 3 part series called "let there be light", where I go over all this info and brands, prices and tips/tricks to save money on all that.

      @@Fishtory I was going through videos by Father Fish on Walstad method last week. He told me to keep an inch of soil and two inches of sand/gravel cap and plant the plants halfway into the sand layer which will help them to grow roots slowly into the soil so that they won't get burned or something like that.

    What do you think its the best light that you can get from amazon for all types of plants? I have 6ft long 1.5ft wide and 1.5ft tall tank

    • @FAKE-NAME
      @FAKE-NAME Před 4 lety +1

      At 6 ft long I would go with multiple lights across the other direction instead. And when looking for a light for all plants go for high light fixtures and plant low light plants in the shade produced by the high light plants... low-light plants with high lighting tend to grow algae unless the hours are kept low that's why I suggest planting in the shade. I like nicrew because it's cheap and works well for me (cheap and easy to find on amazon)
      Edit: old school option shop light with 2 bulbs of your choosing(works well for large tanks but is considered lower lighting depending on wattage and the type of bulb you choose)

    • @Petekoko
      @Petekoko Před 4 lety

      FAKE NAME i tried 4 led bulbs but i guess its not strong enough to really grow anything. Do you think floodlights gonna be too strong? I tried single led light fixture similar to nicrew but it barely covered anything. I might need 3-4 of those to do really grow something

    • @FAKE-NAME
      @FAKE-NAME Před 4 lety +1

      @@Petekoko flood lights tend to get hot and aren't splash proof(for the most part), but could work depending on which ones you use (I'd look up ones for hydroponic or aquaponic use). And yep led light bars might take a couple of them for sure but it's definitely what I would do if i wanted high lighting in a tank that size.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  Před 4 lety

      Totally . I personally enjoy the 2 or 3 fluval 3.0 option if you have $600 or so...that would allow you to do almost anything plant wise (short of flowering much underwater, but youll spend more than 600 for that level of light any how).
      If you dont mind hanging the lights, getting CREE LED lights of 30 watts or more is only 25.99 usually and buy a floodlight for a house, then mount 3 to 6 of those bad boys.
      Lastly nicrew has some options for low light, but if you run any co2 or want color beyond AR, sword plants and crypts red tones, its not really strong enough

  • @rifraf6135
    @rifraf6135 Před 4 lety +1

    I don't know why but my ludiwgia red never really took off in my tank. I have had to cut off ends several times and the bottom always turns to black mush, though I think my lighting should be fine.it is a finnex planted plus 24 7 hlc. Hmm. But my rotala rotundifolia does good, though I SOMETIMES see dark black stems when the plants grow for some time. I lowered the intensity on the light bc of algae, and it has seemed to stopped growing as much now. But now i have some brown algae and cyano. Waah. The cyano is all under the gravel and on the glass. Any advice?

      Long story short, i had no less than 60 subscribers as if i was gay or making a political statement with my nails... and the fact that i started getting hate mail and dumb comments, meant that i needed to double down and repaint them even brighter.
      And i lost 100 subscribers by posting "my wife says my painted nails are totally gay".

I used to work with a guy really tough dude, python arms. He was really into heavey metal and he wore mascara and no one ever questioned him, funny how that works.

    wish i had any idea what names you're actually saying. i'm tired of googling a million combinations of what it sounds like you might be saying and getting absolutely nothing. if you can't pronounce or can't remember wtf you're talking about why not put it on screen at least? or in the description? leave links or something? otherwise this is meaningless.
