You can never go wrong with The Cult
Whenever I listen to The Cult...so do my neighbors.
AGREE 💯! 🎸🤘🔥👍❤️
No Lie Detected.
This is true
Never.
The Cult had their artistic periods and on "Electric" album they went totally classic. 'With the little help' from producer Rick Rubin.
Many, many beers were pounded to this jam back in the 80’s.
Funny Lex mentioned the Doors as the Cult's Ian Astbury on lead vocals actually took Jim Morrison's spot in front of the Doors for a reunion tour a few years back. They were magnificent and Ian did a fine job with some classic material. As for the Cult, try Sweet Soul Sister, She Sells Sanctuary and Rain, they rock Big-time! Enjoy. 🎸
Yes, like every reaction channel they do their homework first, before saying "spontaneous amazing truths".
They actually did both of the "triple S" songs already.
This was the first song I ever heard from the Cult and when I heard it the first thing that came to my mind was Led Zeppelin if Jim Morrison was the lead singer and lyricist instead of Robert Plant.
@@brettkenschaft4239 Time then for Rain, Edie & Sun King. 🎸
A Wild Flower is a wild hippie chick that he's in love with and inspires him to become more like an animal. His wolf nature comes out around her and he can't help it. Even more specifically he emphasizes that he's a wolf child he's so overcome with her aura or her essence or vibration or whatever.
The most underrated English band ever. Especially in Britain.
So underrated and such a shame, Duffy is incredible good.
@@lkdonner2087 got that heart of the band vibe like Izzy from Guns N’ Roses I’ve been playing a lot of Izzy stuff on my guitar and he was really was the heart of that band.
They're Scottish, but the point stands.🎸🎸🎸
@@mattslupek7988 The Cult? They aren't Scottish, what the actual hell are you on? They are from Bradford and Leeds in Northern England. A Yorkshire band.
Love The Cult, “She Sells Sanctuary” was their big hit “Rain” was the follow up single, “Sun King” is another great one
EDIE ! And the 'Love' album .....
She Sells Sanctuary czcams.com/video/wvXFBozyGbU/video.html
This whole LP is sic...
I can picture Lex walking around later yelling, “Wildflower!”
One of the greatest road songs ever. When I first left school I had a 1hr highway drive to and from university. On the way home I would this cues up on cassette and would pop it in to the tape player just as my tyres hit the highway. That intro riff felt like it was propelling my car into hyperspace. Whenever I hear that riff now I’m transported back to that journey. Classic…
Love me some Cult from the great album “Electric” . Many bangers off this album.
Their best IMO.
I love it when Lex starts to really get into the groove
The Cult has many great tunes. Love Removal Machine is one of their best in my humble opinion.
The Cults album " Sonic Temple" is a masterpiece, not a bad song on it. Also the Coolest album cover!🤟
I saw Guns & Roses open for The Cult before G&R exploded. After the G&R set there was a big puddle of blood on the floor. 09/12/87 in Austin @ Palmer Auditorium.
I was waiting for Lex to say "it sounds like Jim Morrison singing for AC/DC"
Exactly, considering the guitar riff is a straight rip off from AC/DC's Rock n Roll Singer main riff, just on loop..lol
Lex got this right again (except for the Motley Crew thing). Ian, the singer, had a bit of a Jim Morrison thing going on, and even sang with The Doors of the XXI Century. If I'd have to classify The Cult's musical genre, I'd put them in the Hard Rock category. Definitely not with Def Lepard who were more pop-rock. The Cult actually started more as a Gothic band, and you can see that in their earlier albums, but then moved towards Hard Rock more and more.
Better songs from them - "Rain" "love Removal Machine" "She sells Sanctuary" and "the witch" all classics
You forgot to mention "Nirvana" which has to be mentioned when you mention "Rain" and "Love Removal machine"...same soundish early music style of "The Cult"
This entire album rocks! It's my favorite from them, every song is a banger
One of the things that amuses me about your reaction videos is at the end, in a lot of your reactions, both of you will say "I don't know..." The next thing you hear is the outro song that agrees with you..."I don't knowwwww...." You two are great. I truly enjoy watching your daily videos. Keep exploring these genres that I've loved for so long!🤘
Rick Ruben, the producer with the Midas touch, put these boys on the global map. Ruben also produced The Beastie Boys among countless others. As you said perfectly, clean and simple rock here with WICKED results.
Billy Duffy is one of lost gems in rock. He is underrated guitar player and song writer.
Seriously underrated. He does it all, rythm, riffing, leads, and does it well.
Is it the Falcon he plays
@@stu2333 It is. That is his staple.
You do know that the cult have released 4 in the 2000s, and Billy just released an album with Mike Peters of The Alarm...
@@phreshone1 I do and new albums are great
Lex was dead on with that Doors comparison. Ian even sang for them for a brief while a few years ago. His vocal style is for sure heavily influenced by Jim Morrison.
They are classic rock now… they were straight up Rock back in the 80s. Keeping in mind their musical style evolved between Love, Electric and Sonic Temple
"Love Removal Machine" please, a nother favorite from them. I saw them on the Sonic Temple tour, a great stripped down show, no special effects. Just straight rock n' roll.
The Cult were trying to find their identity in the 80s. They went from Rain and She Sells Sanctuary to Wild Flower and Love Removal Machine. Rick Rubin stripped away their "goth" guitar sound to a pounding raw Les Paul sound.
Already a huge fan, when Electric came out, it was an instant hit with me and my friends, from Track one to Track eleven. Complete change from Dreamtime and Love. We got to see them live headlining a show in 1985. Their opener was a band called Gay Bikers on Acid. Not sure what happened to those guys.
From there, they became the first 80s "Metal" band with a "The" in their name when Sonic Temple came out.
"Rise" and "Nico" off Beyond Good and Evil are two killer tracks off their 2001 release showing their hard to light side of songwriting. Definitely two tunes to give a reaction to.
Doors, yeah a great ear, the lead singer did a few gigs as the lead singer when the doors did some gigs. My favourite Cult tune is Moya.
Yes, like every reaction channel they do their homework first, before saying "spontaneous amazing truths".
The Cult is one of the greatest hard rock bands ever 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Not one bad record since their inception, despite their turbulent history.
Dreamtime (1984), Love (1985), Electric (1987), Sonic temple (1989), Ceremony (1991), The Cult (1994), Beyond good & evil (2001), Born into this (2007), Weapon of choice (2012), Hidden city (2016)
This is the song that my favorite girl at the Hollywood Tropicana used to dance to!!!
It's a blend of punk and solid rock. That's an incredible album!!!
The CULT KICKASS, UNIQUE BAND.
This whole album is great!!🔥🔥🔥
Saw them open for Billy Idol back in ‘87 when I was in high school 😂. Great live band. Kinda blew Billy out of the water.
I saw them on that tour as well. Good times.
@@cracker3932 Where? I saw them in OKC. Some idiot threw a beer bottle at Billy Idol….hit him right in the head but he kept going even with blood pouring down his face 😱.
@@73av8r5 Damn, that's nuts. I saw them in Columbia, SC. Still remember Ian Astbury, who was clearly wasted, knocking his mic stand over several times and when the roadie kid would run out to stand it back up, he'd play like he was humping him while he was bent over.
I saw the Orlando show, and I was there just as much as for The Cult as I was Billy Idol. it was the one that was filmed for the Mony Mony video - they did the song 3 times if I remember correctly.
Makes sense considering Billy has stated that he also was heavily inspired by Morrison. I believe he covered L.A. Woman on one of his later albums.
Great reaction!!! Bad ass song!!! Bad ass group!!!
"Love Removal Machine" please
She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult, one of my all time favourite tunes. A must listen
There is an extended mix of this song where it has extra guitar fills and extra guitar solo. 👍
Claaaaaaaaassic! Perfect!
I can't wait until you guys listen to an entire album from this era. I listened to this so many times since back in the day, I expect the next tune to start playing lol.
And yes, Ian actually was singing in Jim Morrison spot when the Doors went back on tour.
Right or wrong isn't worth discussing but Ian is the shit.
I remember listening to this on the shuttle between San Diego and Camp Pendleton after a banging weekend with the GF in SD. Drinking beers in the back of the van, this album just blasting! Sooooo good!
The cult "lil devil" :)
A hidden gem from The Cult is a song called Rise. Very cool song and really heavy for The Cult
the whole beyond good and evil album is so good.
We used to cover this song back in the EARLY 90s & the crowd ALWAYS went crazy for it. Such a great rocking tune....off the BEST album by them
The Cult, The Clash, The Cure, The Call, The Cars, The Church, The Cranberries, The Corrs .... The Coasters ... all those "The C" bands.
man i love your guys reactions 😀
Don't forget the time period that Wild Flower / ELectric was released - late '80s. At that time - music consumption centered around MTV - and MTV was dominated by lame bands that few people remember nor celebrate today. I don't ever remember seeing the Cult on MTV at that time - rather they were an underground / alternative band that had an organic, grass-roots following (remember - this is before grunge went mainstream.) So for music fans like me that were looking for an alternative to the MTV-approved music - the Cult (along with Jane's Addiction, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails) all provided hope that music would get better than the crap currently on our TV sets. And with Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains - it did! I loved the alternative scene of the late 80's /early 90s. Still do. The great music of the 80s survived the grunge era and is still celebrated today. But most of the MTV-crap is now buried 6-feet-under. Where it belongs. Thanks for posting this. I hope you do more Cult in the future.
Loved this
Great job!
The stripped-down sound of the entire album "Electric" from which this tune originates was a HUGE appeal to me when it came out. Everything by that point was becoming hyperproduced. This album was just straight-up rock and roll. And it kicked ass. I'm not as big of a fan of their other albums, aside from "Sonic Temple," which is powerful in its own over-produced way, but "Electric" is def one of my all-time faves simply because it does sound so clean.
Couldn't agree more.
yes, this song has always felt so ALIVE to me. smokin' !!!! ian lays his heart out on this song ... it's definitely a piece written around the feeling of the vocal ... that's why it's so pounding ... it is heart, this one ... almost violently passionate :)
Lex!!!! Hilarious!!! Ian Astbury (singer for The Cult) actually sang for The Doors on a rebuild of the band 15-ish years ago. You have an amazing ear.
This album (Electric) is fantastic. Great songs front to back. It always reminded me of a cross between early Led Zeppelin and AC/DC with a good dose of The Cults own style.
Check out Lil Devil or Love Removal Machine.
Lex got it. Back in the 80s or 90s there was talk about the lead singer doing a reunion tour with the former members of the Doors 👍👍👍👍🤟
CULT Electric is one of the best rock albums of the era, argueably in top 10 with GnR Appetite. Lex check out Peace Dog on this alnum, prime cuts. Its amazing you both recognize the crisp, clean, rock master producers work of Rick Rubin.
My fav Cult song. Straight up rock n roll. It was released in 1987, around the time Hysteria by Def Leppard was just getting big but the Ian Astbury sang with the Doors for a while around a decade ago. Check out Sun King, Revolution, Rain and Wild Hearted Son. Many of the songs Ian wrote were inspired by his interest in First Nations culture from when he lived in Canada as a youth.
The Cult was one of those bands that I absolutely loved from the first time hearing them, but wasn't sure which "box" to put them in. They were just The Cult. Same thing with Jane's Addiction.
You go Lex, I love your reactions
In the day, it was categorized as 'alternative' and 'goth' based upon their appearance. Today, listening to them, it is easy to hear they are hard rock.
their first 2 albums "Dreamtime" + "Love" were "alternative rock albums" with a pinch of gothic according to their clothing style ..since their 3rd album "Electric" they then sounded like a pure Hard Rock Band.
@@michaelgrabner8977 i am only a headbanger from the late 70s. When I first heard them, I wrote them off. Now, I absolutely love them.
For me, the Cult are most like AC/DC-straight 4/4 time rock with a driving rhythm, a
screaming frontman, and a very good guitar solo. Just good times…
Then again I’m sort of biased-was my first concert ever back in 89!
The “Electric” album is very AC/DC, yeah. All their others are very different, though!
Me too, saw them at Cambridge corn exchange and I was still at school so must have been 89ish. Got to see them a couple of years ago on sonic temple tour in London. They still rock 🤘
Right on with the Doors reference...Jim Morrison influence for sure !
Great memories of this.
LOGIC 1-800 at MTV awards!
Actual video will make you cry…this song saved my life.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 🙏 do a reaction…
Lex is so intuitive, many people compare them to the Doors and the singing Ian Asbury even looks sort of like Jim Morrison.
"Fire Woman" - enuf said...
The Cult was like a 90's version of Steppenwolf. Classic Rock is the right call.
Love it! Their best song together with Lil devil..
great band... great live too
Oh hell yes. Turn it up. It’s The Cult. I would encourage you to look at The Pretenders for a summer steady rock vibe. I love “Middle of the Road”. Listen for the kitty growl leading into the harmonica solo. Chrissie is a good one to share with anyone who loves Joan Jett. Thanks for sharing The Cult !
First time seen this one reacted too. Thank you an absolute belter!
Finally "Wildflower" whole lotta more songs to go 🎵
Kick ass song nd band
🌹Lex, ROCK on girl.
🤘💀✌
Lexy gets it! Lexy feels it! Lexy bangs!
Lex would love all the Cult’s videos. 👍
Love The Cult !
I love you lex!
You're a rocker
best concert, sonic temple tour. sound was awesome!
Hell ya guys..!!! Well done..!!! 🤙
This album was a breath of fresh air. A needed break from the power ballads from the hair bands. Next hit fro. This one was Love Removal Machine. Rick Ruben laid a golden egg with this one!
Anything off of the Love album! Love these guys. Rock n' Roll! 🤘
The Cult! Very addictive!
My favorite Cult song. They used to claim that they were the only "pure" rock band since they didn't over-dub, use the synth, multi-track, Big Sound, etc. their music.
👍🏻 Yes Yes The Cult👍🏻
Good old fashioned rock n roll
Soldier Blue is another great track from The Cult. 🔥
I put a list of THE CULT songs together the other day, for myself and their were 57 songs on it.🤯 And those were FIRE songs. I'm 51 today actually and I never realized how many great songs they have. ♥️👍 The band THE CULT consists of Ian Astbury, lead singer and Billy Duffy the guitarist.
Tenderloin "To late for romance"
This song is still very popular in strip clubs today. I speak from experience!
The cult is a rock / goth band Ian Astbury also was the lead singer for the Doors about 20 years ago he had the sound and look and vibe of Jim Morrison
Love the comparison to the doors!
Yeahuh!
Watching this for the 10th time or so. Great baby makin music. Love The Cult!
🎸T H E🎤C U L T🥁
The best Cult song ever! There's a long version of this that rocks hard!
When Ian hits that tambourine and billy lays into that white falcon. Look out.
Oh hell yeah!!!
"What, what, what... genre?" Whaha! The Genre is The Cult!
I love the “genre fluid” t shirt 😆 brilliant
just so you two know i simply love this band
OMG please more Cult!
That whole album is fantastic.
They are alternative. Love this!
One of my favourite, most addictive starts to an album.
Kudos to who took charge of the drum recording - the depth of the kick versus the snare tone is perfect.
80’s alternative rock.
They are soooooo good in concert live..
You're sooooo goth adjacent. I keep coming back - but will defs tell you I got Bauhaus tickets.
