    This video only tells part of story, 1993 Larry Perkins used the Holden block not the Chevy engine, everyone said he could not do it and make it fast enough and reliable too win the race, well he qualified on pole and won the race, he earned my respect for this, even though i have always been a Ford supporter and always will be! The turbos were good but welcome back ( 1993 ) to the V8,s. Dick Johnson, Peter Brock, Larry Perkins Bathurst legends!!!! The BMWs M3s were Quick, about 300hp but MORE economical than the V8s!!

    Hardly a mention of co-driver Greg Hansford who was rated highly by major teams such as Perkins, Moffat and Johnson. He was a fast, steady and consistent driver who could look after a car in the endurance races. He was a world championship ranked motorcycle racer before turning to touring car racing. The only driver to win at Bathurst on a bike and in a car. His son, Ryan races in V8 ute series. Greg was killed in a 2 litre touring car race at Phillip Island. Larry Perkins did a race crash analysis and engineering appraisal for the Hansford family's court action.

    The Holden HQs were a PACK!
    In Italy only Alfasud and Renault Supercinque/Clio Cup reached such strength on their grids.

      +sg0238 he wasn't as bad as Bowe was though. He used to always blame the other driver! Certainly nothing like the rest of us Tasmanians. But I'll tell you what, both of them could drive brilliantly!

      Fast forward 2 years and Dickhead Johnson was whinging and bitching that the Falcons couldn't keep up with the Commodores and threw his toys out of the cot forcing CAMS to introduce parity into the entirety of the cars. The 1995 VR's weren't even the original Holden design, just a re-skinned VP.
      He was filmed by Channel 7 in the pits in '95 saying, "We can't keep up and compete with the Commodore and CAMS needs to introduce parity. The Commodores have more downforce than us and it's not fair".
      How about you build a better product to be competitive rather than drag everyone else down to your level so you feel good.
      Its thanks to that idiot, we have had nothing but "conga-line" racing for the last 25 years! He was never a "great" driver and hasn't been a good team principal either. The only time DJR has had any modicum of success, is when Penske was throwing $$$ into the team.
      Thank god Supercars have FINALLY seen the light and getting rid of it for season '23!
      As for Larry, the entire field complained about his home-built Holden 304ci V8 ( when all the other non-privateer Holdens were running Chev V8's) and it's slide throttle in place of twin throttle bodies, that it got banned immediately after.

      Too right. Nobody could get within farting distance of Seton all year. I've just watched at least 10 races from the 93 season. And some of Sandown 500.

    The year F & H killed the ATCC and I stopped watching and following...I still have my V8/mountain killer, my R32 GTR v-spec that I'll never sell...it will stay in my family...it was George's famous Bluebird Turbo that got me into Nissan's and Turbo's...I said the year of Fury's famous Turbo qualifying lap that V8's days will soon be over....a few years later it was

      @jasonkhoury4328 Před rokem +2

      Yeh I agree, I totally lost all respect for Australian motorsport when that happened - it was pathetic how they all sooked cause the GTR was so fast, and rather than step up to the challenge, the aussies banned the rest and stuck to these trash boxes. Good old aussie attitude: If you can't beat 'em - then ban 'em!

    • @23yearsand76
      @23yearsand76 Před rokem +2

      @@jasonkhoury4328 100% Jason....Pre George Fury's Turbo Bluebird lap...I supported Holden...but as I said...the writing was on the wall for Holden. Since the first release of the Commodore, and up until Holden closed the door...NOTHING had basically changed with the Commodore...From Start to Finish the Commodore was a Family sedan and RWD..nothing else..Falcon was the exact same...but at least they came up with the Barra Turbo....If Holden had of pulled their finger out and Designed and Built a Competitive Car to the Skyline, some would say they might just be around Today but sadly for Australian manufacture they didn't. I recently watched a vid on the New Commodore of the time...and they rambled on about it ALL being Australian designed and COST...."1 BILLION DOLLARS" and I thought...that's all you could come up with for $1 Billion?...Holden and Ford LIVED by the Moto of "Win on Sunday...Sell on Monday"...and what better way to make that happen then to BAN the Competition as you said. Holden put way to much faith in ONE MODEL...Commodore...and that was just a ludicrous business plan. The other thing that pissed me off was the Millions of tax payer money they were given....when at that stage 99% of their Catalogue was IMPORTED!!!
      People woke up and realised there were better car's out there...and Holden wasn't listening to the Consumers and changing times and trends...Sadly...we lost Australian Production and industry though because of Stupid decisions
