Not everyone lives near fields. We've been pushing home ownership for so long, accompanied with white flight, that much of the working farmland around most major cities has been developed and destroyed. I built and ran a small vegetable farm outside of a small city during the noughts and 4 years in the land I was leasing was sold for development...that ultimately would not happen with the housing bubble burst. We should be encouraging new small, organic family farms, not crappy jobs on big industrial farms. But this takes some education; sustainable organic farming doesn't come with instructions on the label.

I work in West Texas , The Permian Basin , “Oil Field” . You will not see one white Rig hand working on the “Pulling Unit Rigs .” They dont like working in hot weather , freezing weather . They like to be in the office feeling entitled . Air Conditioning, or sitting in the truck with the heater on when its cold . The Pulling Rig workers are all Mexican . Many workforces that are extremely tough like construction are also predominantly Mexican. I myself have had 2 seperate positions in life that I outworked all the whites within a few weeks of showing up. Its 2 completely different levels of work ethic and entitlement.

I worked along side some of the toughest hard working white boys I have ever met in my life while serving in the Army and time in Iraq. Some that even worked like a "Mexican" as we joked about, myself being of Mexican descent. Yet hard labor like this is not a way to live, the toll on your body and health not to mention being looked down upon by society. @Ash Win True but these type of jobs are really hard to automate because there's no machine that can identify an orange from a tree and pick individual fruit without damaging it. The same goes for strawberries and blueberries. All types of nuts are easy to automate because they can be shaken from a tree or dug out of the ground. Again, Americans dont want to do these types of job unless its sitting in a nice comfortable truck that they can manually operate.

In the past few years there was actually a salmonella outbreak stemming from a peanut butter factory, due to them ignoring their product testing positive by the lab for salmonella, just so they could sell more product. Their factory was worked by american citizens, but was filthy with rats, rodents etc. I believe at least 5 people died from that. It was the factory’s fault not the peanut farm’s fault. The peanuts and a large majority of produce is washed in the factories to insure these things don’t happen. Fresh produce may be contaminated at any point along the farm to table continuum. Yes there are farms where the contamination stems from illegal workers not washing hands but to solely blame them is ridiculous, Americans can be held just as responsible and the companies just don’t really care about consumer health if they could get away with it

I was born and raised in lower southeatern Alabama, it don't get any more country than where I live. I've only left the state a handful of times on vacation, these folks are what I know and love. Well. We get 2.5 million immigrants every year...legal and with green card/ work Visas. Then taxpayers subsidize those who earn below poverty levels with a SNAP , education, housing , healthcare, etc. That’s a lot of people year after year after year....plus they have children. Unsustainable.

Not every American is lazy. If I was still in my teenage years and someone offered me this employment I would have taken it without a second thought. I grew up in the city so we didn't have this, so I worked at Wendy's instead. But I will make one of my future children work like this for their money if I can't find them a job anywhere else. I used to manage a grocery store for a local chain. We had quite a few migrant farm workers coming in to cash their checks so they could buy food. The bigger checks were several hundred dollars and approaching $1000. I've looked at different check stubs since they handed everything to me for me to sign off that it is okay to cash the check. Some workers were paid hourly and they put in a lot of hours each week. The piece meal paid workers still earned at least a few hundred dollars. This is after all the deductions.

Not everyone lives near fields. We've been pushing home ownership for so long, accompanied with white flight, that much of the working farmland around most major cities has been developed and destroyed. I built and ran a small vegetable farm outside of a small city during the noughts and 4 years in the land I was leasing was sold for development...that ultimately would not happen with the housing bubble burst. We should be encouraging new small, organic family farms, not crappy jobs on big industrial farms. But this takes some education; sustainable organic farming doesn't come with instructions on the label.

I work in West Texas , The Permian Basin , “Oil Field” . You will not see one white Rig hand working on the “Pulling Unit Rigs .” They dont like working in hot weather , freezing weather . I worked along side some of the toughest hard working white boys I have ever met in my life while serving in the Army and time in Iraq. Beside, Bush Jr was the one that created the 12 Mil illegal immigrant problem in the first place. He ran on strict border which forced a lot of these undocumented immigrant underground due to fear of not being able to come back to the US, they end up having children that are now US citizen, and integrated themselves into a lot regional economy that rely on these immigrants for economic output because they were willing to do jobs that most Americans dont want to do.
@Ash Win True but these type of jobs are really hard to automate because there's no machine that can identify an orange from a tree and pick individual fruit without damaging it. The same goes for strawberries and blueberries. All types of nuts are easy to automate because they can be shaken from a tree or dug out of the ground. Again, Americans dont want to do these types of job unless its sitting in a nice comfortable truck that they can manually operate.

In the past few years there was actually a salmonella outbreak stemming from a peanut butter factory, due to them ignoring their product testing positive by the lab for salmonella, just so they could sell more product. Their factory was worked by american citizens, but was filthy with rats, rodents etc. I believe at least 5 people died from that. It was the factory’s fault not the peanut farm’s fault. The peanuts and a large majority of produce is washed in the factories to insure these things don’t happen. Fresh produce may be contaminated at any point along the farm to table continuum. Yes there are farms where the contamination stems from illegal workers not washing hands but to solely blame them is ridiculous, Americans can be held just as responsible and the companies just don’t really care about consumer health if they could get away with it

I was born and raised in lower southeatern Alabama, it don't get any more country than where I live. I've only left the state a handful of times on vacation, these folks are what I know and love. I used to manage a grocery store for a local chain. We had quite a few migrant farm workers coming in to cash their checks so they could buy food. The bigger checks were several hundred dollars and approaching $1000. I've looked at different check stubs since they handed everything to me for me to sign off that it is okay to cash the check. Some workers were paid hourly and they put in a lot of hours each week. The piece meal paid workers still earned at least a few hundred dollars. This is after all the deductions.
